Problem I have is the harder/longer I row the more hungery I feel so I eat more. Which cancels out the extra work. Only benefit I see is my times coming down, as my bl**dy weight isn't!!!!
I'll be one of the fittest 18st pie eaters around!!

I'll start beating your times soon enough. When do you want to race on RowPro?

:D
Hi Thomas:
Not easy to do, but you'll need dicipline. Take a beer or 3 on saturday, but then you have to run home from the pub

Serious: How much do you drink and
What do you eat in a week :?:

I can't get to a row-pro!

Jainser - it's worse than that - cos if you throttle back on the rowing - guess what - still eating the same!! So the weight returns....sigh..!

OK. New academic year, time to get out the old teaching suits and.....
I'm back into size smaller! :D

Still work to be done on the jeans front though...

This achieved through use of ergo, eating smaller portions, less chocolate :( and limiting alcohol to only every other day. (Unless there's a really good reason - like I feel I need it  )

Next target..... into the skinny skirts & the cream jeans......
Need to get back on the ergo then :D
48yo, weight... let's just say heavyweight & leave it at that.

Hmmm, the pub is only about 300m away, and I mstly drink at home anyway ;)

And the other information is classified of course, but my wife is a fantastic cook which makes everything a challenge.

Chocs, ciggies, no beer

Post by PSims »

And Derrylad eats 2 x Family Bars of chocolate for breakfast, has a cigarette, jumps on the erg and pull 6:37 for 2k.

Somehow there seems no justice in the world - at least he doesn't have a beer beforehand - perhaps that's the secret?!

Fat boy going into one.....again!

Post by jainser »

To me it's all about how I feel. I know I'm over weight I have been over weight all my life and probably will be.
To me (and completely my opinion) life is too short to worry, as long as I can run up the stairs, kick a ball about with my boy and not need an extra lung for this I'm happy. This is one of the main reasons why I brought the rower in the first place.
I'm just over 6' 1" and weigh in around 18st, this on paper tells I'm obese yet I can row a 6:45 2k (and don't need a week to recover!)
don't get me wrong I don't spend all day eating pies and I do eat healthly - just lots of it
Being fit and healthly is more important than being slim (again in my opinion)
Although being slim, toned, fit and heathly would be nice :)...........but would I be happy

Feeling great

Post by ptruz »

I agree with Mr. Jain......to a point.

Sure, there are people who can stay "big" and be great. I am 6'2" and I bought my rower on June 28th.

I was 330 lbs. Not a firm 330. A very soft and lumpy 330. When I was athletic (20+ years ago) I was hard and 155 lbs. Somewhere under my new self is the 155, thin boned guy that I used to be. See I am not a fit at 220 lbs person who gained 100 lbs.

Jainser....I will agree with your comments if your blood pressure, cholesterol and other measurements are in order. Glad you are feeling well but you have to be well. you are obviously very strong.

OBVIOUSLY.....I eat too! and I have not stopped. I live with a wife and two kids who eat, eat, eat! There is every temptation available here at my home......and we are busy so we eat out a lot.

I have been dieting.....but ever so lightly. I eat my greens......green leafy vegetables....they are important. I eat breakfast.....a good grainy cereal from a box. It's also a good snack for me. If it was good at breakfast it must be good all day. Bottom line......I am watching what my intake is just a bit and.....I have lost about 35 lbs in the past 10 weeks.

DISCLAIMER: I started really big and soft. I have a lot to loose. But as I always suspected (I have lost a lot of weight "dieting" before) the missing component was exercise.

Where can a 330 lbs guy get a good workout without blowing a knee or disk/ C2/D. That's where. It's right next to my favorite sofa where I watch my T.V.

I am off to Vegas next week and that will be a test. I have located a rowing machine near our hotel and hope to workout everyday.

I find you story inspiring. I just hope your medical stuff is as good as your spirit.

Thank you.

$35.00 to join a local club for a week. LAs Vegas Athletic Club. Several locations.

Go to the C2 sight for phone numbers. Only Model c's I afraid. There is a D listed in Vegas but at a private club.

Thanks!

I think I could rule out something in your diet, which will make it work.
:)

Maybe I could talk to you wife about your "classicified" eatinghabits :?:
But when you say it like that, it sounds like that you are pretty much aware of what the problem is. :)

I hope you will work it out.

I always weigh myself three times, one after the other in the morning, since this seems to get the lightest reading ;).

This morning I came in at 18st 13lb :D :D :D :D I have not been under 19 stone (266lb/121kg) for a long, long time. Since this whole thread started with me cross with being stuck on 18st 7lb I am really pleased. I think that it is changing the training and keeping the body on the hop that has done it.

Under 18.5 stone and 7 minutes at BIRC might just about be on the cards if I stop drinking beer and eating chocolate.

Congratulations Thomas! I understand the chocolate cravings. I have to have a "bite" every day. I am the unofficial keeper of the lab's "emergency chocolate drawer", so I try to keep it stocked with the snack size, mini-bite chocolates that are only 90 cal each.

Even with the daily bite of chocolate, I have met my end of September goal of losing 40 lb (I started rowing and eating better in mid may).

Here's hoping you keep dropping the pounds and seconds off your 2K time.

Rita, 40 lbs is fantastic. In our money that's a couple of pounds off 3 stone.

There are people on this forum who are very envious this morning (me included). I think we'll all look like Shreck today.

Keep it going and keep to the bite size chocolate. I have this addiction as well. I used to eat any and all chocolate. Now I have one very small bar of Green and Blacks a week. Usually Friday night which is now less than 36 hours away. :P

Sadly it's lots of PUB FOOD, BEER and CHOCOLATE!

Is it harder to row with more weight - I assume the physics of moving more weight along the sled comes into play?

Looking for an excuse for rowing really slowing and still feeling bad afterwards this week!!

It is indeed - at's all that acceleration that has to be done at both ends of the slide - Newtons F=ma type stuff (I had to cover some physics this week  )!

Oh dear! Blame it on an extended hangover if the above doesn't do!

I started this thread when stuck on 19st 7lb (273lb) for four weeks. The advice and encouragement got my weight going downwards again such that I am not 18st 11lb and shrinking.

In honour of this effect by I have set up a new ELM challenge "Free Spirits mass loss %" - just to record any success stories of weight loss since joining this crazy world.

I just worked out my mass loss - I joined in June and have lost 8.4% of my body mass.

Hey Thomas,

Great idea but the maths doesn't work.
As this is a TIME based challenge, a lower time scores more points.

So I have lost only 6.5% compared to you - yet I get a higher score....need a way of reversing it. How about showing whats left (in my case 93.5%) as the time?

OOOOPS! I did make it a time based one, but it did not allow decimal points. So I changed it - did not think how it would pan out.

BUM. Changing it back, but it will not show the decimal points. We could multiply by 100 or something, but then even I would get confused.
