New ELM leagues - Free Spirits fun and Free Spirits extreme

Post by Thomas W-P »

I just wanted to publicise two new ELM leagues that people may not have heard about.

Mike (7 marathons in 7 days) set up the league Free Spirits extreme for longer challenges.

I just set up Free Spirits fun league for challenges that involve skill - power will have no bearing on the results.

For those that have not yet tried it, the link to the ELM web site is at the top of this page. Register (as a Free Sprit) then join the leagues.

N.B. You need to go to the second or third page of leagues to find the new ones.

There is nothing to stop you joining both leagues!

Well, I saw someone had signed up for the fun leagues so tried the Blind 500m.

It is hard! Despite being firmly rooted on the seat I felt my balance was going. Going passed 500m not counting also preyed on my and I stopped way early. I didn't even get to 400m! I'll try again tomorrow.

Music is cheating or not?

Post by PSims »

Thomas,

I tried it in the middle of a longer row the other day - opened my eyes at 509 metres! But then I was counting!

How about listening to music - is that allowed?
Cos I know lengths of some tracks which give clues....

All good fun though...

I was counting too! I had decided that 45 strokes was about right, but had a panic attack and stopped at 40.

I think music is probably allowed - after all, you are still unable to see your split. I found I was pulling 1:53 for my 40 strokes and was aiming for much slower.

NOTE

To get into the Free Spirits extreme and fun leagues, go into the "All Leagues" option, go to "Next Page" at the bottom of the list . Then join the 2 leagues .
You can be in all 3 leagues at the same time

I gave the Blind 500 a go today, I think it's one of those challenges you have to do twice . I got 443, and counted to 45 . I'll try counting to 50 tomorrow, hopefully I'll stay under the 500m.

Who's cheating now!!!!!

Post by PSims »

John - you aren't allowed to count - that's the whole point isn't it Thomas?

I made that mistake when I first tried it, then read the instructions afterwards so didn't enter my time.

If I can count, I can get very close!!

And I did a 50 count 481 meter today  . I'm changing my ELM entry to a 1, which I will hopefully improve on without counting in the next few days

Of course you can count strokes, surely that is the only way to get close!

The rules may be a bit unclear - I will change them to say "Scores over 500m are not valid".

Tried the blind 500 today. Got an astonishingly lucky 499m. I hid the monitor and counted 56 strokes. Revealed the monitor and there it was. For the first (and probably last) time I seem to be No1 on the points board

After yesterdays precision rowing of the blind 500 I tried the bullseye 2000 today. Not as easy as it sounds. Anyway overdid it by 8 metres so had to add 8 secs. I will have to try that one again. Well done Thomas for an interesting challenge.

I panic on the blind 500m despite the fact that I have yet to get within 70m of 500m! For some reason I don't believe evidence of three failed efforts.

But my Bulls Eye was *very* close - I was nearly two seconds over but only had to add one second with 2001m in 10.01.7.

I am adding a silly new challenge today. Thought of it whilst away this weekend.
