Oh god. Please don't. I can't take the pressure.

On that note, your metres obviously don't count because they are "on water" metres (as previously mentioned ;-) )

When you do go off-shore with an ergo, do you get internet access or do you load all your times up in one chunk when you get back?

I hear what you are saying Stan. I think its because previously I've been focusing too much on the shorter distances like the 2000m and 5000m. I need to attempt the longer distances more to get those times down, starting with the 10,000m and the half marathon. Maybe next week.
Me and my big mouth  Good luck Gregor - I expect to see your 10k below 40 mins, the 1 hour at 14700, and the HM at sub 1h 30

We usually have internet access.
In the very worse scenario - like I had when working in Vietnam a couple of years ago - we still had limited email access so I could email Emma to log my metres for me. Mind you, we were getting some very strange looks from the passing local tuna fishermen when they saw the erg on the back deck.

Awesome PB. I bet it won't be long now until you break that 15k barrier for the hour. Keep it up ( ditch the swimming ) - no forget that, C2's don't float.

Can we have a thread to the opposite, as I have just tried my first 2k in 18 months. Won't even bother you with the time, crashed and burned 900m into it :(

I just raced against my 500m PB of 1:36.6 but unfortunately I could only manage 1:36.8. :(

At least my Nonathlon score for that distance as gone from 744 points (which was my worst) to a repectable 806 points (it was the first decent time for that distance this season.) :)

AND I just beat my 2000m PB! :P
7:16.7 now from a previous PB of 7:24.1

4 PBs for me this week. :D

500m

Had a go at 500m this morning to register something for nonathlon.

Raced my "benchmark" time - i.e. Gregor  and got 1:34.3

(I imagine as I type this you are already half way through the 1hr race and on course for beating me.

You should get RowPro and then we can send each other our races... I am assuming that living in Scotland with a name like yours you are scottish so your character in RowPro has the Saltire on his blades. I created my own jpg file for my blades and row as Nottingham University...

Yes, I'm Scottish.

I'll probably get rowpro after I get my no1 laptop is fixed (the hard drive is dying).

Been feeling leaden legged and sick all day after the 500m I did this morning. Maybe my body is finally telling me enough is enough!

I have not felt nauseous like this after exercise since regatta days when I was rowing "for real".

Probably just the 60 minutes tonight then ;-)
Gregor Andrews wrote:Damn! I'm only ahead of you on the 1km and 1 hour row now!
Yeah - but I have seen your times and know most of your PBs will come down significantly. I think you could do a 39:45 10km fairly "easily" now.

Ah well, another day, another PB bites the dust.

This time it was my 6000m, down 33 seconds from 23:54.8 to 23:20.1

Wow, what a week it's been. :D

Yeah, well done my friend. You stretch away from me now - and I have no idea how much time I will spend on the machine in the coming week.

But at least I have a target for the 6,000m now ;-)

Well, I am sitting upstairs marking GCSE work, dealing with the boredome by checking the cup final score and the forum every now and then and I see Gregor's new 6,000m time. As the scripts crawl by nipping downstairs for a pop at his time becomes ever more alluring.

I know I have gone completely loopy at 9:45 pm when I am sitting at my laptop working out the split I need to do to beat his time. It gets worse when 15 minutes later I am falling rapidly behind the split. Somehow I start to get it all together and reel his boat back in (this is the advantage of RowPro - something to race makes a huge difference).

I can now be declared officially insane. 23:17.8. This is bad though. Gregor will now instantly do a half marathon time for nonathlon and at the same time leap 21km ahead of me in the standings.

NOOOOOO!!!!
It can't be true!

I thought I'd have been ahead of you in the 6km for a while but my lead only laster a few hours. :(

Not sure if I can manage the half marathon tomorrow as my back feels like it needs a rest from rowing.
I'll see how I feel in the morning.

At 2,500m in I thought I would not beat it to be honest, especially as I did not warm up. I went "soft" in the middle but looking at the splits in RowPro they did not change much. It makes a HUGE difference knowing that we are much of a muchness and if you can do it then I can too. I would NEVER have set off at that rate if I had been doing it first. Mind over matter I guess. NEXT - the 6:30 2000m! 8)

Thomas

P.S. When you do do the HM aim for 1h 30m at least. I am sure I could do that now.

Maybe I started off too slowly - I was intending to do the first 1000m in 2:00 and then speed up the pace after that.
My splits for each 1200m section were:
1:59.6, 1:57.4, 1:56.6, 1:55.2, 1:54.2

Next time I'll try to start off a bit faster. :?

lunchtime today a 30 minute PB by 60 metres - 8394. Six sodding metres off 8400 :?

Rowed a minute 'hard' at about 1:40 to 1:44, and a minute 'easy', at 1:51-1:55.

So 15 sprints, and 15 recoveries!
I love rowing, I hate rowing, I love rowing, I hate rowing...

I'm sticking my oar in here (no pun intended), but do you always attempt PB's rowing in this fashion?
What you are doing is a classic 'Fartlek' session, which is excellent for training, but a very inefficient way to achieve a target.

As you may know the relationship between speed and power on the erg is not linear, so if you row faster and then slower around your average pace, the extra power you have to provide to go faster then your average is not paid back when you then row below your av. pace. In your case your av. is 1:47.2 (284W), higher rate 1:40.0 (350W) and low 1:55.0 (230W). So you are expending 66W extra going fast but only recovering 55W going slow.

Sorry about all that, I'll no butt out.
