Very nice FM there Tako, well done! I think just finishing a FM is a huge achievement, but doing so with a PB must be extra satisfying! =D>

I have to admit that passing you in the Meterboard was part of the motivation to do a FM today as you passed me when I was knocked out for a few days.

According to the Nonathlon scores my strongest pieces are the 5k, 6k, 10k and 30min.
Sprints are not that easy as I struggle to get high stroke rates and probably bad technique makes the Erg move.
Glad I was able to motivate you  .
Am back on the rower now(albeit very gently) as my back is on the mend, and I would like my meterboard spot back   .
You may need to shorten your sprint stroke as it is very difficult to co-ordinate a full stroke at high spm, especially for someone of your height.

Going from FM to 500m ;-)
After a warmup of 7k @2:15ish
I gave the 500m a try and managed a new PB of 1:32.5 (old one was 1:34.2 from Oct last year) :-)

Had a rather nervous, post rib healing, 10km which turned into a PB of 41:06.4. Took the advice from various sources to avoid low S/M, and it felt pretty reasonable up to 2.5km to go when everything seemed to slow down..... With a fair wind of no injuries, sub 41 minutes should be on the cards in the next month or so.

------

And in the evening, a 2km of 7.22.7. Small steps in the right direction.

Well done Ian. Knowing it was that close I think 2 months is maybe a bit too far off to anticipate dipping under. I think maybe a bit sooner than that. =D>

Hi, long story short my personal life kind of fell a part a bit on October / November last year (split up with my partner / had to move house & I submitted 2 grievances against my employer). Everything is kind of fine now though.

Anyway, I spent a lot of time rowing to help me get through stuff. As a result I've achieved a few personal best rows during December and January:

30 minutes = 7,874m (+104m)
10,000m = 38:18.9 (29.9 seconds faster)
15,000m = 58:58.1 (41.8 seconds faster)
60 minutes = 15, 210 (+149m)
Half Marathon = 1:24:24.8 (1 minute 43.9 seconds faster)

I've also set a new PB for total distance rowed in a calendar month with a total of 300,000m (50,000m more than previous best). Every cloud has a silver lining and all that :-)

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. After yesterday's Half Marathon PB, today was supposed to be a rest day. However, I was feeling pretty good so I had a crack at the 6000m and set a new personal best with a time of 22:28.7. Which is an improvement of 19.7 seconds.

It was also at a faster average pace than my current PB for the 5000m. So I guess I'll have to try to set a new PB for that distance soon to :-)

I like those - as you are mentally geared to really not fail. Make sure you have a day's rest or a couple of light days before as you wouldn't want to fail through just being physically fatigued.

I guess your 6k PB splits were not set at 1000m? If so, you might have that 5k PB already in the bank!

Nice to be able to post a PB here after quite some years I think. Rowed 351 meters in 1 minute. I don't think I really went for this in 'my better years' but still, it counts.

A new personal best for the half marathon this morning with a time of 1:23:40.3 (44.5 seconds faster than previous PB). I'm really pleased with this row as the average pace was 1:58.9 which is the first HM I've rowed faster than a 2:00/500m pace.

I'm considering having a go at setting a new PB for the full marathon at some point in the next few weeks. My current PB is 3:08:51.1 and I'd like to see if I could complete it in under 3 hours.

Not quite to the above standard, but:

Somewhat unexpected pb for a hm this morning.

Gave myself several milestones to withdraw on, but felt fine at 10km, then 1 hour, so just paddled on.

The time includes a headphone malfunction at around 15km, so I've inadvertently given myself a target for next time of 1.27.30 :) Image
