Hope this is nothing too serious, Paul. Please allow yourself to recover fully before exercising too strenuously - the erg will be there waiting for you to get back to your recent good form

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks folks. I'm back home after spending about 13 hours in the hospital.
Heart is fine, but the problem was caused by a gall stone and I may have to have my gall bladder removed if things don't clear up. Have to go back for an ultra sound next week and get further blood tests and will be going to a gall bladder clinic is about 6 weeks. The good news is that I don't have to stop erging. The not so good news is that I need to reduce my alcohol consumption - although that might prove to be good news from a weight loss and erging performance perspective.

Paul, we are happy to hear that there aren't any problems with your heart and hope that the gall stone can be treated without the need for surgery. Look after yourself.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Glad they have figured out what the problem is, Paul
Surely they know what the best procedure will be - from my limited knowledge and perspective a laparascopic surgery (to remove the stones) isn´t too bad - whereas if an open operation is a serious thing... And again - from my very limited knowledge - might be a good idea to cut the intake of alcohol and fat for a while...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks folks. I think it might be a wake up call that was badly needed. I think I wasn't being careful enough about my diet for someone who exercises as much as I do. I'm going to take a more 'holistic' approach going forward.

Paul - I've been off the forums for a while, concentrating on my new life as a novice Rugby Union referee.
I was a bit shocked to see this update from a FS stalwart.
Hope you recover quickly.
Take good care of yourself.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks Jon. It was just a scare, rather than a serious problem, but some lifestyle changes needed, methinks. Can't keep abusing my body by eating and drinking too much and not getting enough sleep while doing loads of exercise.
I'm not planning to give up the exercise, so I'm hoping that eating and drinking sensibly will have the desired effect.
Good luck with the refereeing.

Wasn't quite sure where to plonk this but I suppose it's a PB. The WR ratification is in the pipe I'm told (after somewhat of a delay) but the British Record is up in lights at least:

I guess that was one way of spending Father's Day with a new British record.

Thanks for noticing Ann
It was a month ago when it was done (Father's day was last Sunday I think? (I don't recognise the event to be honest)) but only crept on the C2 UK board yesterday.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Didn't expect to be posting here anytime soon, but I managed to set not one but two PBs over the new short sprint distances today. My gym membership expires this week and I'm off to Portugal tomorrow, so this was my last chance to row on ergs that are anchored, unlike my home erg, which jumps all over the place when I'm sprinting flat out.
Set to damper to 10 (DF 175) and moved the footplate up a notch. Did 6 minutes warm up with 30 second bursts after 3, 4 and 5 minutes. Then I did the 100m in 16.3 seconds (previous PB 16.5) and I also saw my lowest ever split of 1:18 (previously 1:19). After a suitable recovery period (maybe 10 minutes or so), I attempted the 1 minute TT and managed to cover 347 meters (previous best 344).
Very happy with those. Moves me up to second in the rankings over both distances (behind Lindsay Hay) and two new Irish records to boot.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Well done with those sprints Paul - they're good preparation for August's sprint CTC
It's been a good day over here - Sheena decided to make some scones and we had a couple each warm from the oven Then we both proceeded to row a new PB
First Sheena improved her 6k time from 27:32.7 to 27:17.5 - she always said that her 6k time was too slow but it's taken a while to improve it.
Then I did a 10k TT, and managed to improve from 40:45.7 to 40:38.0.
I think that it's now official and we're both over our dip after the 3 week break from rowing while we were on holiday in Canada
Not sure what was in those scones, but we didn't have to give a urine sample afterwards

Stirling efforts Jan and Sheena - that's an impressive amount of seconds to knock of your respective PBs. =D>
Sheena had obviously added that special ingredient, ' self-racing ' flour, to her Go Faster scones.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
As I updated my signature with the SB for 2k just now I realised I had set a 100m PB as part of the C2CTC challenge this month
My new (obviously not a sprinter) time is 18.4s

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
After my first attempt at this month's 10 minutes CTC, I decided that it was time to have another go at my 2k PB.
The good news is that I managed to improve from 7:44 to 7:39 , but I don't think that I'll be able to improve much on that any time soon. I was completely and utterly worn out afterwards, with a new max heart rate of 180 (previous was 179), wasn't able to do any sort of end spurt, and felt a bit sick all the way through my cool down. I guess I paced it about right then , see below:

Looks perfectly paced to me. That's a really big improvement over the previous time. I may try the 500m next after last month's sprint CTC, at least that's over within a couple of minutes

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
They all hurt in their own ways. Coming from a summer season of 1k OTW racing, I have become accustomed to how a 1k feels. Now I have to prepare for a 6k OTW race, and the hurt you get after a prolonged time at 6k pace feels harder to me than the pain you feel halfway a 1k. I guess the point is they all hurt (each in their own specific way) but you can get used to it.jhaveman wrote:Thanks guys!Which distance do you recommend for minimal pain?sander wrote:2k is supposed to feel like that
