Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Some very impressive times above
Meanwhile, today is the last of the Mud Season Madness Challenge thingy. Having ignored the erg sitting in the midst of the living room for 5 months, I've managed at least 10k a day, in various forms, for all 31 days and to round it off thought I'd go for a good paced 10k, to see where I was at. I wasn't aiming for a PB, indeed I thought I was pacing myself against a slower time. I found I was some 23 seconds faster than the time I set at Madchester last summer Had I realised how I was doing, there may have been a bit more in the tank:
10k 41:18.2 ave 26spm, 153 Hr, 02:03.9/500
splits:
2k 08:15.1 25spm 146Hr 02:03.7/500
4k 08:15.5 26spm 149Hr 02:03.8/500
6k 08:13.4 26spm 155Hr 02:03.3/500
8k 08:17.1 27spm 155Hr 02:04.2/500 (getting a bit tougher here and seeing 02:08/500 popping up)
10k 08:17.1 26spm 162Hr 02:04.2/500 (tried to sprint to 02:00/500 for the last 500 but it wasn't happening)

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I'll claim another PB. Didn't have a lot of time, but needed to get a row in this morning before work as I won't get a change for much over the next 2-3 days. So thought I'd put my back into a 30minute.
Added 34m to my distance from last September to achieve 7307m ave 2:03.1/500.
Not a big improvement, but I wasn't really aiming for a PB, just a good strong row. Indeed my starting 5 minutes was quite off the pace. That suggests there is more to come, especially looking at my 10K and 2k times but should I wait now for the next season before a proper attempt?

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
As the end of season is fast approaching, I decided I needed to get a better time in for the marathon (sub 3Hour preferably). So gave it a go last night, but should have had a few days rest first, as I think I could have done better . Also found satsuma segments for some reason slowed me down a lot !?
But still in the end pulled out a 2:58:34.0 to gain a new PB.
Next season I should be able to do a bit better, and will be in the same age group as the likes of Strider and Paul Victory……. Interesting ?

Rob - well done with your multiple PBs! Mud Season seemed to be good for you!
Trevor - That's a very good time! Well done. .
So... the trick to turning in a good FM PB is to row, say, 900,000 meters the months before?
Cheers,
zoot

Great PBs, Rob, on the 10k and 30min, and especially for picking back up after 5 months. =D>
Trevor what a satisfying achievement to squeak under 3 hours for the marathon. That must have been fun. Congrats

Had to try for another PB today, in the hope I might grab 2nd place in the MetaNonathlon thingy, but will I have done enough

Setting 2016 season marks this month in 10k, 6k, 5k, 2k. As first one, had to guess on the 10k pace, so that will be most easily improved.
5k today, drag 124.5, still had legs working at the end, even saw a 1:58.
22:44.6 2:16.4 25
4:35.9 2:17.9 24
4:35.4 2:17.7 25
4:34.6 2:17.3 25
4:33.9 2:16.9 25
4:24.7 2:12.3 26

Good benchmark times which will give you great targets to attack next season. I think we can all see who will be the Meta Nonathlon leader

Thanks for reminding me that the nonathlon exists, since apparently I *will* be doing TT for more than just one or two ranking distances.Rob C wrote:Good benchmark times which will give you great targets to attack next season. I think we can all see who will be the Meta Nonathlon leader

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
So the marathon challenge allowed me to attack both the HM and FM times. Those were and probably still are soft so scope to improve wasn't a surprise.
The tougher challenge was to improve the 5k and Madchester afforded the opportunity.
Last June I managed 19:45.6 (1:58.5 ave / 500), which according to the Concept 2 site placed me in th4e 68th percentile. I've never considered myself an athlete, so just being above average was a good mark. To get any improvement was going to be tough.
Somehow I clocked 19:43.4 (1:58.3 ave/500). It's a small gain, only 2.2 seconds, but at this point any gain is a good thing?
I was right on my limit, I knew I had to target a 1:58/500 pace, and that was the case at a 24/25spm for the first 1k. After that I was simply hanging in there, my HR was already nudging 160bpm which shouldn't happen so early into a distance, and so I was trying to ease for a few strokes to say 1:59, and then pull on again. The last 1500 wasn't good and my HR spiked in a couple of seconds from 165+ to 175+ and I really had to back off to around 2:10 pace for 10 seconds. That cost a lot and from then on I was behind my previous PB pace. Somehow, a last ditch effort for the final 500m recovered things to a 1:56 ave pace at 25spm, with a 174HR average. I don't want to go there again for a long while.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
That's exciting Kirstin! And after being down sick for a spell, to gain that much at a considerably lower rate says a lot. You're building toward much faster times, even, is my guess. Keep up the great work!
Rob - 2.2 seconds is fabulous. And what fun to be there for it. Only wish we could summon that cheering section more often.
Nice 5k E-Clair, hope the remaining time trials you were planning have gone (or will go) well also.

Congratulations everyone on all your recent PBs - it's always a pleasure to read about your new achievements. =D>
Kirstin, I certainly wouldn't be capable of catching hold of your coat tails, or come to that, Sheena's either. At best, in the distance, I might be able to hear you both calling to me, " Come on dearie. Catch up! "
Kirstin, congratulations also on last Saturday's HM - 9 minutes, that's quite an improvement. =D>

New pb for 5k at the end of Sam Blythe's latest 6 week plan. First half felt no problem at all and by the time the demons turned up I was far too far in to seriously think about giving up.

Tried the HM today and although not an all out effort still managed to pb by around 50s. Still tough though
