Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Wow! 17.7 seconds off 1000m shows a bit surge of improvement. Well done Kirstin!
I managed a smaller improvement with my 10K today - 36:36.8 (down from 36:40.3) Very pleased though, first 10K in a long time. Pro rata improved my 6k and 30mins on the way too!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Accidentally set a new PB for the 5K today. Got done with my weight workout and wanted to log a few meters, so I set up a QR called "rp ez 5k" indicating that I was just going to lackadaisy my way down the river. As things turned out, without working too awfully hard at it, I managed to shave 16 seconds off my previous 5K time! Looks like my fitness (and likely technique I've been working on as well) is improving!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Well, I thought I had a 1k PB today. According to Concept2, my previous best was 4:22.5 (2:11.2 pace), and today I rowed a 4:21.9 (2:10.9 pace). PB, right? Well, yes, from Concept2's point of view. But then I noticed that I rowed 4:17.3 (2:08.6 pace) for the beginning 1k of the April 2015 CTC (1k,4x300,1k;R2'). A 1k from a standing start. But since it wasn't a stand alone row, Concept2 doesn't count it as a true 1k (not rankable, and not on my list of lifetime bests ). These were all downloaded with the C2 Utility. Anyway, now I have to try to beat that 4:17.3 time. But at least today's 1k was a SB.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Peggy, C2 doesn't (can't) recognize that PB as it wasn't done as a stand alone attempt. But you could use a workaround. Enter that 1k PB row again as a single event (which is now rankable). The next time you upload a warm up or a coold down edit it in your logbook and subtract 1k (so your lifetime meters are correct again).
Well done on the SB though! =D>

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks, Peter! I may do that next time, even if it won't show as "verified", at least I won't get confused by the "Lifetime Bests" numbers again. For now, I have the C2 Utility output to show it was real anyway.
Yesterday was just one of those days. I wasn't planning a hard row, so I ran a hilly 5k with my husband in the morning. Then when I started some (1',R2') rowing intervals, the battery on my HR sensor needed to be changed. After changing it, I started the Feb. CTC, but during the first 5 min. rest I was pushing buttons to keep the monitor alive and not paying attention (usually I would row slowly during the rest, but the CTC wants standing starts), and I accidentally pressed the "Back" button. Argh! 7 mins of hard rowing wasted. So then I was wound up, and what was supposed to be an easy 1k turned into a SB. Oh well, next time I'm mad I'll set the pace on my real PB.

Distance record for me:
122,234 meters in one week which puts me over 3M lifetime and almost 2M season, as well as jumping four places on the Meterboard (back into the 20s ). I found that getting more push from my calves drops my 500m split times several seconds while at the same time allowing my HR to fall. Being able to hold sub-3:00 splits for 20+K at 110-115 HR is an achievement for me as an aging 5'8" (173 cm) lightweight. It's nifty that after a year of rowing, I can still find ways to improve my efficiency.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Added another 60 meters to my 30 minute PB tonight. And also realized that I'm a bit dense. Scheduled the row on Oarbits, rowed with 4 others including one Barbara Hoyt from California. Even rowed a 2k CD with her.
Only afterwards did it dawn on me that there was a Barbara from CA on the Free Spirits forum... Checked the Meterboard, and sure enough, there she is... Hey - nice to "meet" ya!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Peggy check that news item in the logbook about an update to uploading interval data? Not sure if that would help next time with your PB when it was part of a set -- great job!
John - interesting comment on efficiency and wow on the distance. Nice.
Ron -- too funny. Not always easy to connect identities from the Forum to elsewhere. You said you had pushed the pace today more than intended and I very nearly asked if you had switched over to... well... something other than heart rate. (recalling your Embarrassing Story). I often just have to refrain from certain comments while in Chat mode. this has taken many years for me to learn.
Well done on the PB - good bunch today.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks, Barbara! I checked the C2 blog post and it looks like the next C2 Utility update will indeed fix the problem. Great! I've always found it frustrating that intervals look so slow in the Logbook because of the rest time being included.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I did a 30 minute row today which, for the first time, brought me above 8000m. Full details here: https://rowsandall.wordpress.com/2016/0 ... east-once/
About 15 minutes into the row I started to feel very sorry for myself.
Improved my PB by 21 meters, and now I have a 30 min score for the nonathlon.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
PB by accident…. On Thursday tried to do the CTC in about the same time as Alan, but as I was doing the third interval notice my heart rate went up from 150 to 157 in a few seconds so thought it prudent to stop there and wait for it to return to something more normal. Then did a slow 2k, and retried the CTC at a more sensible pace, and finished with a disappointing 9:45.6 In the bottom half of the CTC for the first time. So I thought I would have a nice long row on Saturday to lift my ‘spirits’ and retry the CTC on Sunday.
So Saturday I set the PM as I usual do for a long row from a favorite - 50k with 1k splits. As the previous weekend I rowed a 1/2M at a 2:03.9 pace, set off thinking for 30k I should manage about 2:06 comfortably. After 2K Alan joined me on the erg next to mine, and we had a chat as he started his 15K. I said I wanted to do 30K and that any more at a 2:06 pace was going to be a bonus. After 15K my MIO link kicked in to tell me the heart rate was up to 134, bit higher than I wanted to see ( I use a Garmin chest strap for any row up to 1/2M, after which it becomes less reliable and a lot more irritating. MIO I find is better for the longer rows although it wanders off every now and then, its less irritating than a chest strap). Alan done his 15K and left me still trudging on. By the time I got to 25K the heart rate was 141, so I thought I would pick up the pace a bit to try and finish the 30K in a bit better time. At 30K to my surprise my heart rate had only gone up to 142 and I still felt there was more to give. So I plodded on thinking if I could another 12K and keep the total pace above 2:07.9 I could achieve for the for the first time a sub 3 hour marathon. As I got closer to the 42195m I realized I had more left in the tank and tried to get the split time down, and in the end passed the mark with a split time of about 2:05.6, but thought I might as well carry on the full 50k as I could not have the marathon as a verified time.
With a bit of extra effort at the end managed to do the 50K with a 2:05.5 split, and a time of 3:29:13.0. max heart rate a comfortable 145 oh what joy except….. sitting down …… I didn’t manage the CTC on Sunday as I couldn’t row at all, could just managed to sit on the erg and that was it .
Still well pleased with the 50K PB and the knowledge I should be able to do the marathon in less than 2:56:31 which is a bit quicker than my 3:03:22.2 set at the end of Dec.2015.

Fantastic stuff! I can't imagine doing 50k - my backside is in agony after a HM - so another 18k would probably do me in!
And a great time too - always interesting when your body lets you know there's MORE in there rather than running on fumes!!!

Superb stuff Trevor. I've only done a 50k (in a single sitting) twice and one of them was en route to 100km. The occasions when it all just feels great are just wonderful aren't they?

Got up early this morning to have a go at the World Rowing Indoor Sprints - not really the best time for me to do this sort of thing but too busy otherwise so had to get on with it. Ideally would have preferred to get closer to my current target of 3:10 but can't complain about a one second improvement on my pb - as you can see was also a horrible fly and die effort!

New PB for the 1000 today. 3.3 seconds off my previous PB at a race three weeks ago. This one was much more controlled.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
It's tricky to control the pace at these seemingly short distances, so well done Kirstin =D>
I also decided to have a go at the 1k today. I was planning to do a sensible start at the 1:52 pace of my current PB and then try to gradually speed up.
However once I had started all planning went out the window with a 1:48 pace
It was only at the halfway point that I realised that this was probably not sustainable, so I slowed down a bit. Unfortunately the damage had been done at that point, and I had a meltdown with about 300m to go.
Managed to convince myself that I could still beat my PB though (thanks to the optimistic first 500m) and picked the pace back up.
In the end I finished in 3:41.7, about 2.5 seconds below my old PB
