Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Wasn't specifically looking for a PB this morning but I'm not going to complain !
I've been thinking that last year my long steady distance stuff was perhaps a bit too easy in terms of pace so I've been determined to push on a bit. This morning I was due for an hour so I decided to start off briskly & see what happened.
Unexpectedly it turned out I was able to pretty much hold 1:55.* so I started to turn the screw in the last 10 minutes & ended up with a new 1 hour PB by 166 metres.
Pleased with that !
12:00 3097 1:56.2 28
24:00 3121 1:55.3 29
36:00 3128 1:55.0 29
48:00 3135 1:54.8 29
1:00:00 3230 1:51.4 30
1:00:00 15710 1:54.5 29

Ok, time for the big one: 2k sub 7 attempt
My PB of 7:08.0 was set 2009 and it always kind of bugged me that I never got under 7 minutes
Sitting on the erg instantly regretted the massive baked potato I had for lunch
1:43.3 500 32 - Already this feels tough
1:45.1 1000 31 - If I handle down nobody will know, could try next week
1:44.7 1500 31 - OK get a grip you can do this
1:44.8 2000 31 - Legs burning, potato churning, made it!
6:57.9 2000 1:44.4 31

Congratulations Felton. =D> =D> =D> First sub 7 is special and you made it comfortably with two seconds to spare.
You're really putting it up to the rest of us.

Great work on the 2k - and not just sneaked under 7 either, a good solid sub 7. Well done, that must call for a celebratory beer !
And thanks both for the congrats on my hour.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I achieved a new personal best yesterday with a time of 3:08:51.1 for the full marathon. This is faster than my previous best by 00:16:23.8. Although in context this was only my 2nd attempt at the full marathon. I had only being rowing on my erg for 5 months when I made my 1st attempt in May last year. So I was expecting to improve my time.
I found the last 6000m pretty hard. I probably lost over a minute during that part by having to stop a few times to catch my breath, regroup & go again. My glutes had progressed from being uncomfortable to rebellious and were on the verge of mutiny by the end of the row.
Overall I am very pleased with the time.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Huge congrats to Felton for dipping under the infamous 7 minutes barrier - it's a glorious thing when you do (for normal mortals anyway).
And to "O Lord of Greasby" - both a warm welcome and huge congrats on knocking a lump of the event at the other end of the erg scale - the FM! Glute rebellion is one of the many "wonderful" facets of marathon rowing. Well done on battling through =D>.
It seems an eternity but when you are 36km into a 42km row the thoughts of stopping, no matter how much discomfort you are in, are over-ridden by the thoughts of NOT having to do it again from the start

Do you want to be included in the Free Spirits nonathlon league? I presume that's you with the I.D. 988012?

Yay, managed to crack the 7k barrier for the 30:00 at 7154m, ave 02:05.8/500 24spm. That's crept up from 6988m in March.

That's a strong Hour of Power and very close to your 15k target.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Two more PBs to report.
Firstly on Tuesday I had a PB for distance rowed in 30 minutes with a total of 7770m. Then this morning it was a new PB for the 6000m with a time of 22:48.4.
Next PB attempt will be the 5000m. I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I know it's not a nonathlon distance, but I finally managed to beat my record of 1197m for 4 minutes that I set in 2006 and finally reached 1200m for the distance (just about ) thanks to a kamikaze final 30 seconds.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
A new personal best for the 10,000m with a time of 39:13.8. Which is an improvement of 20.8 seconds on my previous best. I'm very happy with this row as it's only the 5th time I've completed this distance in under 40mins.
So I just need to get new PBs for the 500m, 1000m, 2000m & HM to complete the set for the season
