Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Great 5k PB's/CTC's there, Sander and Greg. Good thing you both seem to be hungry for more.
I did the 10k today in 41:28.6, which is one and a half minute faster than my previous best, done last October.
No nice negative splitting this time, though:
2000m 2:05.2 / 24 spm
4000m 2:04.1 / 25 spm
6000m 2:04.9 / 24 spm
8000m 2:05.2 / 24 spm
10000m 2:02.5 / 24 spm
I think with more endurance training I should be able to get it under 41:00 before the end of the season.

Congratulations Rodger. Coincidentally, I did a 10k today as well and did an SB with a very similar time to yours. Let's drive each other onwards towards sub 2:00 pace for this beast.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Having had a cold and chesty cough over Christmas I knew it would be difficult to get in a boat in the 5K January CTC. My cunning plan was to encourage my daughter to join the team and post a time thereby improving my chances of getting into a floating boat. My daughter posted her time last night which she is sure she can improve on and is floating. Faced with the table this morning I needed to do a PB to get into a floating boat, a PB improvement of 15 seconds delivered, am I in a boat? No..... New plan, the wife normally rows 3 or 4K....... she might be encouraged to join in! I'm running out of family available to join, perhaps I just need to row faster!
The good news is that I took 14.7 seconds off my 5K PB with the remnants of a chest infection still impairing the breathing, not quite "Epic" but not a bad nineteen minutes and forty one seconds.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Very nice improvement on your 5k time, Phil! There is more than half a month to go, enough time for at CTC boat to pick you up.
With serious training, how long do you think it would take you to get it under 40:00? A couple of months maybe?
I was told by someone when I arrived here almost two years ago, this is the whole purpose of this team.Stan wrote:Great work Rodger. I have a feeling you are going to be messing about with my pbs before long!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Interesting question Rodger. I figure that an improvement of up to 2 seconds per month in pace per 500m is possible if training is going well, which would give a target of somewhere around mid March.Rodger wrote:I'm not sure yet if that is within my capabilities. Having said this, I did a HM in 2:05.3 pace two days ago (much faster than I expected!) and if I could tranlate this into a 10k time, it would leave me very close to 2:00 pace, so maybe a bit sooner than that?

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
A massive 7 seconds off my HM PB, a 7 second improvement gains one extra point on the Nonathalon! I should be pleased but one point!.....1:31:11.4, another tenth of a second and I could have doubled my increase. My next target is a modest increase of just one tenth of a second, 1:31:11.3 is so far away, just so I don't push too hard, I'm a firm believer in train don't strain!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Nonathlon points for HM PB's can be very disappointing given the length of time you are pulling your tripe out to get the PB but that's just the way it is for long distances . 7 seconds on a 1k would be a bucket of points but (unless you are starting out), 7 second improvements on 1k's don't come along very often.

Just increased my 30 min meters
7. Jan 6437m 2:19.8 HF 140
15. Jan 6709m 2:14.1 HF 142
Target was a 2:18 in average, after 10min I changed to 6600m as a target, on the last 9min decided to go for 6700
8min could be a hell of a long time
I'm quite happy, increased the split time permanently, no fall back over the 30min, started with 2:20 ended with 2:09

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Today, I managed to do the 6k under 24:00 for the first time:
6k in 23:54.2 @ 1:59.5 / 27spm
Split paces:
1000 @ 2:01.6 / 27spm
1000 @ 2:00.8 / 27spm
1000 @ 2:00.6 / 27spm
1000 @ 1:59.7 / 28spm
1000 @ 1:58.9 / 28spm
1000 @ 1:55.4 / 30spm
This is almost a minute faster than my previous 6k PB (24:50, done in November last year), so I'm pleased with the result.
Still, I think the difference in pace between the first and second half of the distance is too big. Some improvement could be made there, but I find it very difficult to row at an even pace throughout.
Next piece to try to get under 2:00 pace should be the 30'.
Probably will take a couple of weeks of training to get there.

I think the pacing looks fine. In general, negative splitting is regarded as the best way to optimise results, although some people do slightly better by going hard at the start and then hanging on for dear life.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Congratulations, Rodger!
It's great to get these middle distance pieces below 2:00 pace.
I've always tried to flat split them to my target result, but whatever is working for you you should keep doing. I get very demoralized if I see the average split or project finish drift above my target.

Congratulation Rodger =D>
I usually do it in the same way, start a little bit slower and increasing the speed step by step, always the target time in mind.
It has to fit for you, and if it's fine than do it in this way, my opinion.
In my first 500m time last week, the last 100m I dropped down 10 sec

Great stuff Rodger, it must be nice to go sub 2:00 pace for 6k, something I've never achieved.
I personally get my best results through negative splitting. Obviously we are all different and some people are more effective going out fast, but if I try to do that and hang on for dear life it rarely works for me

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Today I run for 5000m, my first time was 22.44, 4 weeks ago. This week I did my first 500m and the 30min, and I can say I'm feeling it So started with the target of 22min (2.12), after 500m I felt it works, didn't really expect it
After 1000m I increased to 2.11, 2.10 and the last 1000m 2.06. Achieved finally 21:44, it's 1min faster then the last time, I'm very happy, never expected this
It's a pity that I'm away now for 2,5 weeks
So I could only do a little bit running and cycling. Very curious what my times will be when I'm back.
And for sure the big progress from the beginning will stop in the near future

Two PBs in a day is exceptional and doing them under race conditions (where you're almost certain to lose some time at the start) is even more impressive.

Nice rowing, Richard!
I've seen people mention that before, that somehow "race conditions" cost time. I was wondering what you mean? Is it any different than a typical standing start from an interval rest period's countdown?Paul Victory wrote:Richard Lindner wrote:Two PBs in a day is exceptional and doing them under race conditions (where you're almost certain to lose some time at the start) is even more impressive.
