Re: The Pete Plan
Huw, how do you get your heart going that fast without passing out? That's a nice set... except for the part about the acid reflux. After giving it much thought... I've decided I don't care much for intervals. 5 x 1500. Wasn't sure how to pace this. I've read suggestions of 2k+5 and 5k....

10k recovery row today at a 2:14.1 pace. AHR 138, MHR 143. Nice and slow... that's the way I like it.
5x1500 tomorrow. Yikes! Looking for a 2k+5 pace? I guess that would be a 2:05?

I am humbled by the fact that Christine rowed more meters this week than I have all season. Just awesome!
edit - Oh, and her meters for the Fall Challenge already exceed my lifetime meters! Go-Go-Go!

Come on Eileen, Fairytale of New York, Bed of Roses. I was going to say I'd never heard of "Come on Eileen" or Dexy's Midnight Runners, but I queued it up on YouTube and as soon as I heard it, I recognized it. (I would have guessed The Kinks did it.) Anyway, I liked it, I just don't have i...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
"Legs still shaking" - as you say, PB's don't come easy anytime. Initially it's 80% a physical battle, as the times drop, it becomes 80% a mental battle - just ask Scoop (5k) Plummy I guess I'm starting to understand that. I raced bicycles for a year when I was 16. A few years after that ...

I can't keep up! Lot of great music there Helium, Stan, and Paul. Paul - 9 of your 12 are actually on my mp3 player! 8) Stan - I hate to admit it, but I am sadly deficient in Rush. I'll give these a listen. Love Meatloaf, Queen, and Dire Straits. Helium - I was listening to The Good, the Bad,...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
After a couple of days off, I felt I needed something more than the steady-distance I had planned for PP. So I decided to revisit the 5k. I feel that a lot of my PBs are soft... so this time, I decided to start at the pace that I wanted and just see how long I could hang on. Goal - 20:00 (2:00). 1:5...

Re: The Pete Plan
Coming along nicely there, Huw! Nice negative splits, Wolf, with a great job of hanging in there after the missed stroke. And congrats on the new PB, spider! Today was supposed to be a steady distance for me. But I missed the last two days because of work. So I was well rested and chomping at the bi...

Re: Send us your music playlists
I think WMP is Windows Media Player. I use Foobar2000 which is a very simple, free music player that seems to be endlessly customizable. The database is proprietary, but very, very fast... although I have only about 175GB to search through. I liked Mumford and Sons rather a lot. Thanks for the tip! ...

Re: Send us your music playlists
Well, dang it... I was going for, eclectic. How about this list instead? 1. Loch Lomond - Paul Robeson (1938) 2. Play a Simple Melody - Bing Crosby (1950) 3. Everyday - Buddy Holly (1957) 4. What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong (1968) 5. A Day in the Life - Beatles (1968) 6. Won't Get Foo...

I'm actually still working my way through your playlist... but I'm also installing a huge number of software updates, so I keep having to reboot. What do you mean by "music engine"? Are you downloading the songs? Or is this an online thing? Nope. Don't speak French... (or Karelian or Irish...

Re: Send us your music playlists
I've skimmed through the "Musical Opinions" thread and felt a bit lost. I've heard of most of Strider's groups, but the others? Maybe less than 10%. Can't tell if this is because they are mostly British bands... or I'm the wrong age... or don't listen to the radio much... or just totally o...

Nah. I was kidding, mostly. And making fun of myself. A few years ago, I thought that the Maximum Heart Rate was just that... the maximum. And if you tried to push harder than that your heart would explode or something. I was very careful not to push too hard.

20 secs? Very nice Spider! Zoot - anyone who gets 6 PB's in a week has to travel to the home towns of all FS and buy them a drink. I expect you'll get to me in about February so I'm looking forward to it  8) Sincere congratulations ^O^ ^O^ Ach, don't tell my wife... she'll be dragging me out to...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Thanks guys. Mark - I might have a slight edge right now, but I suspect you'll blow right by me pretty soon. Last night I tried my hand at a 60' row - 13,381. (The only other one I had completed was back in 2009.) And then this morning was an attempt at a PB for 500m (got it, too - dropped...

Re: The Pete Plan
This plan looks promising. I like the idea of continuous improvement rather than training for a specific event. I think I'll give it a try for a couple of months and see how it goes. Started this morning with the 8x500m. Based on my 2K time, I decided to try for a 2:01 rate. 01__2:00.8__28 02__2:00....

Oops. Sorry. I was just stunned by the speed. It certainly would have been a PB in my book.
It's still darned fast as far as I'm concerned.
