Four boats floated and a further three sitting at the dock waiting for a female rower. That would then take us to seven, which would be fantastic for such an early stage in the month.

February 14th sees a special one-day only CTC, held as a memorial to Carole McNally who lost her fight against cancer six years ago. The distance is 1402m. If ever there was a CTC where speed wasn't important, this is it. Taking part is all that matters.

Unfortunately I have been there myself only too recently, so completely understand. As tempting as it is to race, if you're not going to do yourself justice or you might do yourself harm by doing so, it's best to give it a miss.
