Re: February CTC - 30 minutes
Managed 7230m today, an improvement of 53m. More importantly, it actually felt good - the first time in two or three weeks I've been able to say that. Hopefully, hopefully, I am putting this 'thing' that has made me struggle of late behind me. If so, I'll see if I can get close to my PB by the end o...

Well done millie - 1.6s in one week is a strong improvement. Looks like your pacing was to plan too. =D>

Re: September Meet?
Pleased with the reaction to my suggestion so far.
Please note, it doesn't have to be in September. If August or October would suit better, please say so (with preferred dates). I only said September because it would be after the school hols, and thought that might work better.

A fairly steady 5:26.1 for me, and we become the first team to float a boat.

Concept 2 UK Forum
I know, it's not our web site, but is anyone else being blocked from the C2UK Forum by their browser for security purposes? I noticed it last night using Chrome at home, and it's happening this morning with Firefox at work. Was fine about 9pm last night, but shortly after that it all went wrong.

Re: WAARC - February 2013 - 500m
Jeremy, thanks for the entry. I look forward to seeing what you can post with a 'proper' attempt. Millie, you are completely right. An age benefit of 10s over 2km works out as 2.5s over 500m. There isn't any pro-rata-ing going on, but your query may have highlighted a bug in my spreadsheet. It looks...

You don't need to improve your adjusted time by much to move off the bottom, by my reckoning. Now there's some motivation for your next attempt!

Re: February CTC - 30 minutes
Four boats floated and a further three sitting at the dock waiting for a female rower. That would then take us to seven, which would be fantastic for such an early stage in the month.

February 14th CTC - Carole's McNally Memorial - 1402m
February 14th sees a special one-day only CTC, held as a memorial to Carole McNally who lost her fight against cancer six years ago. The distance is 1402m. If ever there was a CTC where speed wasn't important, this is it. Taking part is all that matters.

Re: Alan, Stan & Simon's 2km Friday Funathon
Thanks everyone. I'm still not too happy about it, but I guess that's more about failing to put my good training to good use. I'm tempted to give the 1km and 2km another shot (and the mile) before accepting that that's it for this cycle of training. It's frustrating when illness gets in the way, but...

Re: Garden Birds
plummy's photo is of a male sparrowhawk. Certainly not rare, just not one you get the chance to photograph in your garden very often. With regards to sparrows, I don't think there's one single reason. Old housing stock being replaced by new houses without easy access to loft space reduces nesting op...

Re: Alan, Stan & Simon's 2km Friday Funathon
Well... on the bright side, at least Stan and Simon don't have to worry how they're going to follow this! Last week's 1km TT was disappointing and suggested my initial 2km target of 7:20 wasn't going to be possible. But Paul's Law prediction still said 7:24 should be on. And, well, last week I...

Re: Garden Birds
Sparrowhawks are stunning birds of prey. I guess if you have buckets of sparrows, you are likely to attract such predators. I was in our garden a couple of years ago and a sparrowhawk came in from nowhere and took a sparrow. I can still remember the 'phump' as the wee bird was taken out the air. Nev...

Re: Mobile phones and other geeky gadgets
I'm not really a gadget person, although I have had an iPhone for just over a year. It's kinda cool what you can do with it, but I suspect I'm only scratching the surface. Replaced PC with a Windows 8 laptop at the end of last year. Not a touch screen one though. Maybe that would make a difference, ...

Re: Garden Birds
Thomas, I know what you mean about Goldfinches, delightfully colourful little birds. We had about 20 in the garden on Sunday, with similar numbers of Greenfinch and Chaffinch - utter mayhem on the feeders! Never used niger seed, though. They seem happy enough with sunflower hearts. We get a sp...

Well, that's me completed my final session before the Friday Funathon. My next session is going to hurt a heck of a lot more than that gentle 5km paddle. Oh dear, why did I suggest doing this?

Re: Bexhill Rowing Club Mile-February 10th, 2013
Unfortunately I have been there myself only too recently, so completely understand. As tempting as it is to race, if you're not going to do yourself justice or you might do yourself harm by doing so, it's best to give it a miss.
So what training are you going to be doing for Basingstoke?
