Re: Name that tune

Not a clue! I thought I should know it, but it doesn’t ring any bells. So I gave up and googled the lyrics.

The song in question was a big hit in the US, but didn’t hit the charts on this side of the pond.

Re: Name that tune

Thanks Paul Not one of my karaoke repertoire, but I recognised it instantly. Just hadn't logged on in a while. My recent songs have tended to stump people, so I'm going to go for one I heard on the radio today. But that does not mean that it's a recent song! Not even time for birds to fly to souther...

Re: Name that tune

Hi Peter I've no problem with having Karen Carpenter's voice stuck in my head. She was a joy to listen to and it's just very sad that she died so young. Anyway, I guess that means I need to think of a new song. I accidentally came across this song when I was channel hopping on TV recently. It's supp...

Re: Name that tune

I'm pretty sure it's by The Carpenters, but the name of the song eludes me right now. Maybe if I go for a walk, it will come to me. I was singing the song to myself and I came to the end of the first verse, which finished with the words "For all we know", which I think is the name of the ...

Re: Name that tune

OK, one final clue before I give up. The 1990s version of the song featured on the soundtrack of a movie and the album is the best selling movie soundtrack album of all time. The song was sung by the female star of the movie.

Not Kenny Rogers. The person who wrote the song is still going strong. It was the singer who recorded the hugely successful cover version who died around ten years ago.

Re: Name that tune

I think this thread has run out of steam and it might be time to put it to sleep. If nobody guesses this song within the next few days, I’ll post the answer and it’s then up to anyone else to wishes to post some lyrics. The song was written in the 1979s by a famous country music singer-songwriter. I...

Re: Name that tune

OK. The songs were by Gilbert O'Sullivan - the first one was Matrimony and the second was Nothing Rhymed. Here's one that was a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

Re: Name that tune

Looks like nobody is going to get this. Final clue.

The songs are by an Irish singer songwriter who had a very successful couple of years at the start of the 1970s, with number ones on both sides of the Atlantic.

Re: April CTC - Rhythm Row

It’s been over six months since I did any erging, but I was thinking I might try to ease my way back in before the new season starts. I figured the CTC might be a way of motivating myself to get going, but this particular challenge sounds like a really, really bad idea.

I’m going to put up the first few lines of the second song. If that doesn’t ring a bell, I’ll put you all out of your misery.

If I give up the seat I've been saving
To some elderly lady or man
Am I being a good boy?
Am I your pride and joy?
Mother please if you think say I am

OK. I'm going to put up another song by this artist. A few of his songs have already featured in this thread, but not this one, which was his first hit record, though mainly on this side of the Atlantic.

Re: Tell us about your Holiday plans

Finally, after a number of attempts and failed visas and cancelled flights we are off to Australia for the first time for 4 years to see our two kids. Thanks Jill. I’m just back from a three day visit to Liverpool, where we went on a 3 hour private Beatles tour by taxi, visited the Beatles Experience, went to The Cavern Club (or should I say, the replica of the original Cavern Club that is across the road from where the original stood) and had din...

That’s a strange one! The song that immediately came to mind is The Joker by The Steve Miller Band, but I know that’s wrong, although I think Maurice would be a better name for the mouse.

Wow, that’s some trek, Paul! I got tired just reading about it. I’ve haven’t been on the erg for quite a while, but I am trying to do as much walking as possible. It ebbs an flows, but if I can cover 100,000 steps in a week, I figure I’ve done OK. That’s less than the amount you covered in one day. ...
