Well done Chris.
FS1 still needs at least one more rower to complete the crew of 8. FS2 needs two more. 4 days to go folks!

Re: Virtual Team Challenge 2023
Last update from me, I am off on hols for the rest of the month. Well done to all who are piling in the meters. Lincoln Park are storming up the table at the moment. We are probably in their sights. There are 5 days remaining! 2 Superheros Dwayne K. Adams - 735,457 metres. Predicted - 876,891 metres...

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Ian, it is both. There are a few ideas above which have evolved as I have thought about it. The approach implemented here is that a boat that is not afloat gets the highest of: the score like all the other boats (number of boats - position of boat) or 75% of the score of the lowest afloat boat. That...

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Thanks Fred. Looking at the results this month, I think my 75% may be a bit generous. Maybe 50% would be better. You can test different rates and their impact within the url. For example for 50% just add “?discount=0.5” at the end of the address and will run the calculations using that as a factor. ...

But took one for the team and got a time in anyway. EDIT - Actually I shoiuldn't beat myself up over this. This is my second highest Nonath...

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
I have thrown together a very rough and ready tool to show what the scores would look like. I haven't tested it very well, but it gives a rough idea -> http://freespiritsrowing.com/c2ctc/c2ctc_analysis.php You can now also see past events and how they would score. Here is last months -> https://free...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2022-23
I can row a minute, no problem (although it won't be competitive). My issue is still that I'm above the 75kg limit for LWT and therefore it won't be a legitimate LWT row. What to do?? Plummy, if Felton rows we have a crew of 8 in FS1, so you could leave it until the last minute (excuse the pun), or...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2022-23
Ahoy mateys, Captain Nag at your service. With just over a week remaining, FS1 have 7 out of 9 seats filled (just one more needed to be afloat) and FS2 have just 4 seats filled at the moment. Given it is just a 1:00 row I'm sure we will get the distances logged before the end of the month. [-o< [-o<

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Maybe a way to go would be to make the algorithm more dynamic. A boat that is afloat gets a score which is (total number of boats this month - position). All boats which are not afloat get 75% of the score of the lowest scoring Free Spirits Boat. So in a month where there were 300 boats: finishing ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Since I started on the ergo many years back I have never not completed a piece, even if it meant limping home for half the distance. I came close today. I’ve had a virus for weeks now and have been feeling crap, hence no posts here. I did a 3x10min last week which was a disaster - slow and HR throug...

Re: Virtual Team Challenge 2023
The latest position now we are in the second half of the month. Things normally settle down for teams at this point in a challenge, so the question is can we stay ahead of the reddit team? There are 13 days remaining! 1 Superheros Dwayne K. Adams - 520,865 metres. Predicted - 897,045 metres 3 Heros ...

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Fred, thanks again for doing this each month. Well done Mat! In terms of the future calculations, I have to confess I don;t know how the calculation actually works so it's hard to have a ponder on what needs to be tinkered with to make sure things still work in 2023 with The Diamonds having so many ...

British Rowing Row30 Day 1 for me today. An easy circuit of dumbbell exercises and some rowing intervals. Serves as a nice warm up for the IRL 1min in which I managed to improve on last year by 3m.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Good Zoom Ergos session today with Mark Brown (who was rowing in Rome!). It was the normal Sunday 3x10 session but he put a lot of emphasis on monitoring watts and watching the power curve. All very interesting and a really good chat with him and a British Rowing coach afterwards about the small dip...

Jon T Thanks for Heads up on the Wahoo Tikr HRM. I bought one on Amazon and was able use it the next. Very good so far and cheaper than the two offered by Conceot2. So I am happily plugging away at the VTC knowing my heart is beating away. God to hear. It has served me well and as you say, is relat...

Absolute garbage. Not feeling quite right and it showed. Sloooooow pace and yet HR was way too high. “I finished” is about the only positive here.

The challenge analyser is up and running now -> https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... enge_teams
It's early days, but we are way off the averages from last year. It's great to see we already have a lot of people as part of the team though.

Virtual Team Challenge 2023
I had missed the fact that the Virtual Team Challenge has already started. For those of you not familiar, this is a simple team challenge with the goal of rowing as far as possible in the month of January. We finished 11th last year and 12th the year before. In order to contribute to the team total ...
