Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Not sure this qualifies as training, but I went into the gym in our apartment complex in Alvor to see if the rowing machine was working. I checked, and it was. On a whim, I decided to do a 1000m row in order to set my first ever time as a 70 year old. Started off way too ambitiously, but managed not...

Paul, I was listening to this on my rowing iPod this morning: ' How You Remind Me ' ( Nickelback ).
That was quick! Over to you, Jill.

Now something with no connection to any grimy northern industrial town

I recognised the lyrics straight away, but it took me a few minutes to place it.

It’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day.

Re: Name that tune

Hi Ann It sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn’t place the words, even with the extended lyrics. So I googled it and watched it on YouTube. When I heard the song, I definitely remember hearing it before, but didn’t know the artists at all. As it was recorded in 1965, it should have been right in m...

Re: January CTC: Double December

Finally got around to doing this month's challenge. Decided to do it with a few days to go so that I might be able to have another go at it. Very underwhelming at 4:12.7, but at least it gives us 4 rowers in another boat. Now all we need is two females to float those boats!

Re: Anyone remember me?

Welcome back Paul! Of course I remember you. I also haven’t been around much recently, but trying to get back into doing a bit in anticipation of reaching a new age category in a couple of months’ time.

Looking forward to seeing you post more regularly.

Currently back in Alvor, in the Western Algarve. Brought my rowing gear with me in the hope of feeling up to having a go at this month’s CTC.

Re: December CTC: 500m

Did my first CTC in over a year. I had no idea how to pace it, so I just decided to try to get a steady rhythm going. I was pleasantly surprised to manage to get sub 2 - finished in 1:55.0 and sitting alongside Colin in boat VI.

Yes Paul, it is indeed Johnny Cash, and the song is a sort of tribute to another C&W star(big clue). Paul G Was it a tribute to his wife June Carter by any chance? No, a fellow male C&W star. I gave up and decided to google “Johnny Cash songs”. A list of 30 songs came up, but none of them s...

Re: Name that tune

The only country music singer that I can think of who died recently is Loretta Lynn. Although both Olivia Newton-John and Jerry Lee Lewis also recorded some country music songs. But I can’t think of anything recorded by any of them that includes your lyrics. If it’s someone who died years ago, it wi...

The only song I can think of that mentions Harry Truman was We Didn’t Start The Fire by Billy Joel.

But I’m pretty sure the song didn’t include anything about the price of a Coke and burger!
