Thanks for the advice, Rob. Up to now have never rowed strapless for more than a few minutes at a time but will definitely try it out a bit more. Currently I am doing 45-60 minute sessions on a lower drag(about 96 DF) and concentrating on keeping my average SPM down to 27-28 while rowing about 4secs...

Dave - well done - I knew you were not going to be content competing for last place!
BTW - it's not 80 points difference - it is 110.

Max - as far as your nutrition goes I think you are more than adequately covered - you may want to have some water handy as well to alternate with the energy drink which can be a little cloying and sweet after a while. 6-8 litres should be plenty - I did mine on about 3.5 litres which as probably to...

Thanks for the kind words , Stan - I am still some way off your 500m, 60 min & HM though. It is a bit embarrassing for me that my technique has been so wrong for 5 million metres +.Have started to use my legs and am seeing a massive increase in power so foresee some more improvement in the sprin...

Is there a Virgin Active gym chain in the UK?
Here in SA they are the premier gym chain with about 15 gyms in the JHB area, most with 25m swimming pools and just about every facility under the sun - way better than Holmes Place(when living in the UK found the David Lloyd gyms a bit pricey).

Got myself back into the middle of this 4-way tussle Max has alluded to with 29 points for a 7 sec 1000m improvement.

BTW, Good luck Max for the 100k - if I can give you any advice don't hesitate to ask.

Well done all on the new PB's: Nick - your HM time is awesome!! Alistair - well done on breaking through the 90 min mark - that is a big barrier and a sign of more good things to come. Wolfie - another great effort - you obviously weren't pushing hard enough if you had the presence of mind to recalc...

Not likely to happen , Thomas - while I might revise my Nonathlon targets up slightly it will take time to feel comfortable rowing at a much slower cadence for any length of time - up till now I have barely used my legs at all while rowing - just got by with a combination of high cadence and upper b...

Indoor Rowing Crew Classes

Does such a thing exist in the UK or US? Discovered that 2 of the gyms in the gym chain I have joined have what they call V-Row classes. I attended one yesterday and it was great - run by a youngster with an OTW rowing background who has hopefully ironed out some of the kinks in my technique. It was...

Wolfie - superb effort on the 30 min - "weak" PB or not - 400m is a marvellous improvement. Doing my best to try and compete but even at this early stage I can see an intriguing 3-way battle between you, Max and J-R(well done J-R - great 1k effort) - looking forward to see how it develops....

Thanks Jessica and Max, Max - that's a brilliant effort in the HM - really well done!! Like you I have decided that now when I attempt a PB that there is nothing left when I finish - today I was almost ready to quit with 8k still to go but remembered a post from Big Dave K on the C2 forum regarding ...

Paul - NO!(No FM today and no 250k week this week - maybe a 300k week at the end of the month though).

New PB for 10k - 39:21 - my first time under 40 minutes and a 56.6 sec improvement so very pleased.

Paul - don't worry about it - 4 months is a long time and you are bound to have slumps in form during that time - I am sure you will be on the scoreboard soon.

Got 20 points for a new 10k PB - first time under 40 minutes so very, very pleased(and more than a bit knackered).

Thanks Max,Stan. Stan - I think all but your 500m are reachable at some stage for me but bear in mind that you will also be improving your PBs so you may keep a few beyond my reach. As far as Nonathlon goes - I am on track to achieve my goal for this quarter(15-20 points per event) - won't be nearly ...

Wolfie - don't worry about the weight - you are doing the metres and the weight will take care of itself - I have only lost a few kg's despite clocking up 600-700k per month since joining FS - however there is a lot more muscle and my clothes are a heck of a lot looser - not to mention the fact that...
