Paul - I think you will find the marathon  (October) is before Vegas :D (November), not after  . This was deliberate planning as doing a marathon after Vegas probably isnt on. Incidentally rowing is a dirty word in this section

At 6 foot 6 and 22stone I think you can do whatever you like
In all seriousness, I dont have a problem with what you are doing. I think most of us try to combine challenges where possible.

Absolutely outstanding Gregor - well done. Tried a 1 hour myself today but gave up at 10k - just too hot. Pace was on for a pb for about 30 mins but began to lose it after that. Probably too quick at the start. I am sure I will do it when it gets cooler. I really want this one as its stood since las...

Hi s3mjc (awkward name - please let us know your real name).
I have to say this challenge is beyond my ability at the moment and puts my intended marathon in October into the shade, so unfortunately I will have to decline this one. However I wish you the very best of luck.

Warmups? depends on the distance I am doing. If I am doing a short distance then yes I will do a warmup. Anything over 5000m and no I do not warm up though I will usually do a cool down afterwards.

Another new pb for 30 minute ctc this evening but not enough to get me back into boat 6

Welcome aboard Tom, 5 seconds improvement for 500m is very impressive well done. Interesting you seem ok for 350 and then lose it for the final 150 -exactly what happens to me. I think I am going to finish in 1.32 but it finishes at 1.37 - nasty stuff that lactic acid - maybe the government should b...

Bartman It looks to me like you are already setting decent times! While my times are way slower than yours, the principles are the same - my best performances are off the back of very even pacing. I take it slightly slower over the first 1000m or so, then settle into a pace I know I can main...

Restricted rate rowing

Yesterday I made my first attempt to restrict my stroke rate. I found it difficult and my legs really felt it (although that may have been due to the unrestricted 6k I had just done). I finally hit on the trick of pulling, counting to 4 and then pulling again - this gave me a consistent stroke rate ...

Hi Tricia Uphill is simply the longer slower rowing you do when rowing a longer distance. Downhill is short fast rowing. Its called rollercoaster because its long distances followed by short distances (fast slow like a rollercoaster). The idea is to row the distances in the challenge and then add th...

Well done on the 10k Thomas. Just posted a nonathlon 6k in a poor time of 24:04.2 - should have been sub 24 but decided to choke 1.2k from the end. Anyway its put me 12 points ahead of you for the time being :D

Well done Paul. You can go and enjoy your holiday now while the rest of us struggle to close at least some of the gap on you.
I am now at 132666 for the month with an average split 2:06 so I am at least on target to finish the challenge.

Re: 30-40

Stan - What's your concentration like between 30 and 40 mins? That's when I used to lose it - lactic pooling sets in giving aches in the legs making everything feel heavy. I bet if we were rowing side-by-side we would BOTH reach 15k/1hr !! Also try the low SPM 10km - that really helps....it is hard...

The gym I go to usually has mtv so I just listen/watch whatever is on that. Should get an MP3 player I suppose.
I remember somebody putting Hearts on Fire (From Rocky) on the cd player once and that definitely seemed to inspire me.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to reset the Free Spirit ELM (delete all the challenges + everyones points) every six months or so (possibly even every 4 months). Probably at May (Start of rowing year) and then November We would store all the previous values (peoples points and challenges re...
