Re: Hand Blisters

This may be too obvious to mention, but I say it anyway: Make sure the handle is absolutely clean before you start rowing. You don't want any salty remnants of a previous workout chafing your hands. The topic of blisters also came up in the beginners thread: http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/vi...

Re: 2013 Weight Loss Thread

Since weight loss is one of my main goals and I finally bought a digital scale this week, it's time to tie myself down to my plan by posting on this thread. Before 2006 I always weighted around 75 kgs. Of course I didn't know this was a 'magical number' in rowing back then. I feel this has to be ach...

Re: Beginners

Hi Daz, yer I thought it meant that, but again, the time rest between isn't stated, but obviously a bit of common sense will dictate 1-2 mins and how you are recovering etc. I think 1 or 2 minutes rest between intervals might be a bit short. For weight loss, it does'n't really matter how long the re...

Re: Beginners

Hi Daz, I was wondering if you know about the Interactive Weight Loss Programme on the Concept 2 UK website. If you submit your weight, your level of fitness, the weight you want to lose and the number of sessions per week you can/want to do, a programme is generated for sessions at different heart ...

Re: CTC - how it works

As I understand rowing, there are only two variables important really: distance and time. How to achieve the best times or distances (by way of technique, drag, rate) is all up to you. On the CTC however, a lot of the later challenges add a third variable: strokes per minute. Next month's 8x500/2r w...

Re: Beginners

Hello Daz, I am obviously not an expert on rowing technique, but after watching that bit in your vlog, I think you could slow down the recovery, especially on the last bit (decelerating). Treating the recovery as a ehm, recovery in stead of rushing back forward, could give you more energy for the dr...

Re: Beginners

Hi Daz, Well done on your first couple of weeks back on track. =D> The firm gripping of the handle, resulting in blisters, is something I struggle with as well. All the technique instructions say you should have a loose grip especially on the longer distances, but that's something I'm just not able ...

Re: Rowing strapless

Try counting in you head after the drive so that you do not rush the recovery and your feet will not come out of the foot holders. Thanks for your answer! One thing though: what should I be counting? I mean, sometimes I count 'one' during the drive, and then 'two' and 'three' during the recovery. S...

Re: Rowing strapless

I rowed strapless for the first time this morning. My training programme is at very low rating anyway (18-20) and I read how strapless erging can improve technique, so I wanted to try this. I have some questions someone may be able to help me with. On some strokes my feet came loose from the plate (...

Re: Beginners

but for most people it doesn't really matter if they eat before or after rowing. There is some medical evidence that eating before rowing slightly raises your metabolic rate above where it would have been if you'd eaten after rowing... but I think of this as 'advanced' nutrition, i.e., something to...

Re: Beginners

Thanks strider and zoot, for your kind and helpful replies! I think a gradual increase in UT2 work and then UT1 over a matter of months will help shift the weight To be honest, I don't use a heart metre, so I'm not sure if I'm rowing at UT1 or UT2. But I'm capping the spm to 18-20 and rowing in the ...

Re: February CTC - 30 minutes

I lost motivation to row in the last couple of months. But last month's CTC of 17 min. and this month's CTC are actually motivating me to get back on the rower.

Just to end up in a floating boat at the end of the month is the goal for me. That's challenging enough.

Interesting... Announcing the CTC event for may: The RowPro Rower's In-Between Row 8x2 minutes with 2 minutes rest. No rolling starts. Add only the meters from your slowest and your fastest rep. ex: you rowed 623m, 656m, 643m, 628m, 612m, 614m, 621m and 615m. Your score is 656+612=1268m. Good rowing...

Re: Meter board banter

Hi, I have a question that is meterboard related. I started rowing two months ago. Now that the end of the 2012 season is approaching, I want to do as many ranking distances as I can, just so I can look back later at my progression over the years (hopefully!). Some weeks ago I did a 6k and ranked it...
