Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

In the theme of "onwards and upwards" I decided on a whim to try another 10k last night as although happy that I actually managed to complete one last week (albeit with 3+ stops) I was somewhat embarrassed with 45 mins+. I managed to lop off 55 seconds and finished with 44:23 and change s...

Re: About slides

I'm not too fussed either way - I missed the vote but if pushed I would probably voted against slides - slides give an advantage over the short stuff and while I'm not competitive in the CTC there are those who are, and they would be disadvantaged on a standard set-up against those using slides - al...

Re: Back in the fold

Are there any workouts for a mid 60's, overweight, short man who has modest ambitions? I'm anticipating more efforts on the C2 over the autumn and winter but have set few targets. I'd like to do a "regular" 10k, 3 or 4 times a week and hope to get that down to perhaps sub 43 minutes. I'd ...

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

Although not really much to shout about I'm actually quite happy with my 30 minute SB last night. Even though it was only 6954m (119m more than my previous best this season) it was the fact that I managed it without HD demons all over me from 15 minutes in. Normally I'm more than ready to throw-in ...

Re: Name that tune

Thanks Paul. I see you are in Ryde, IOW. I'm planning a round the island cycle trip with my wife for late September. We've done it clockwise so will be going anti clock from Cowes or perhaps Yarmouth. I'll let you know when we're on our way and you can put the kettle on. I live within 500m of the r...

Re: Back in the fold

Hi Android

At 6'3" and 100kg, aged mid-forties you are ideally set up to go sub-7 - just put in the miles and you will get there - consistency is the key.
Best of luck going forward.

Re: TDF 2022(Jon don't read unless you have caught up your viewing)

Thanks to your posts I started following the action again for the first time in years live on TV yesterday. What a great stage! It had a lot of interesting action. Now let’s hope that this Dane was clean when winning this stage and hopefully the tour (as only bad luck can take it from him now). Whe...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)

It's a real shame about Kasabian. They have lost Tom Meighan (for understandable reasons) as lead singer and Serge just doesn't have the power, range or attitude. In my view they should try and find a new lead singer. I once tried to see the Beautiful South but the gig was cancelled due to health p...

Re: TDF 2022(Jon don't read unless you have caught up your viewing)

I'm hoping Ineos have something left to surprise everyone with, but it feels more like they're defending third place knowing it is the best they can get. I agree with Paul, in that Pogacar looks to have recovered just as Jumbo Visma have a lot of riders damaged or out. Van Aert has been very entert...

Re: Name that tune

No more bites at this one then :

The song is "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave.

As Wolfie was the only one who got close(or even ventured a guess :D ) I suggest he puts forward the next one.

I finally caught up - well, I am always a day behind, watching Day X highlights on Day X+1. Every single day is a gift. My personal highlights so far. Obviously the master class that was Vingergaard taking the lead. Astonishing and riveting. Tom Pidcock's stage win and the interview afterwards when...

TDF 2022(Jon don't read unless you have caught up your viewing)

This year's tour is turning out to be a real classic. Van Aert's relentless attacking has been a pleasure to watch, Wednesday's stage finishing on the Col Du Granon was the best stage I have seen on a grand tour in the last 25-30 years, and Pidcock's descent of the Galibier yesterday has got to be t...

Re: Nonathlon 2023

Not a real spoiler here Jon, but the last few day's racing has got to be the best I've seen, and I have watched every tour since 1985.

Colin, the only chance Thomas has of winning is to develop a quick case of asthma , his team's golden ticket

Final clue before defaulting to Wolfie :

The song title is a phrase from "Paradise Lost" and was written in 1994.

I've watched every episode (even have loose family links to the Peakys), and can hum the tune in my head.
