Re: 2016 weight loss thread

That effort is probably not sustainable as it's purgatory. I do think I risk burn out. Physically I ache a lot now, and it's a bit more than just knowing the muscle groups are being worked. Indeed despite trying a lot to stretch out, my back was that stiff earlier this week I knew I'd injure myself ...

Re: 2016 weight loss thread

A positive result for a change: March 2015 - 17st 12lb (113kg) April 2015 - 17st - 5lb (110kg) - 1/2 stone (3kg) \:D/ I'll admit to being worn out, and hungry - at least 10k row a day during March, and starving myself in the process isn't going to be sustainable. This is the best monthly loss I've a...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Some very impressive times above ^O^ Meanwhile, today is the last of the Mud Season Madness Challenge thingy. Having ignored the erg sitting in the midst of the living room for 5 months, I've managed at least 10k a day, in various forms, for all 31 days and to round it off thought I'd go for a good ...

Re: March ctc - 9 x 300m / 30"r

I have no idea how you all can row at such pace / stroke rates. Gave this a second go and shaved 20 seconds, which seems quite an improvement to me, for 10:08.9 at ave 01:52.7. But heart rate was already uncomfortably in the upper 150s by the 4th interval and by the end was well beyond what ...

Re: Madchester 2016 - is ON!

Good News (except for Plummy who I think is still smarting over claims that some underestimated their pace / handicapping last year), the train is booked, Normanhurst is booked, so it looks like I'll have to experience the pleasure of everyone's company  despite the pain of the row.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Top Tip: If you don't normally do exercise before you go to work, even if there is some silly Concept 2 Mud Season Madness challenge that means you want to do 10k a day for the month, and won't have time to get back and do that in the evening, you are going to pay for it later in the day. That's esp...

Re: March ctc - 9 x 300m / 30"r

Wasn't sure how to approach this. I hate sprint type stuff, although I know it's good to have some variety from longer rows, and since I'd only got back on the erg at the start of the month after a long break, I'm well below my normal pace. Thought I'd see what a 2:00/500 pace would feel like: Total...

Re: New toy! (PM5 monitor)

after all that effort, it beta be worth it! [-X :P Meanwhile "infinite loop detected" Code 44 - yep another row disappeared into the electronic ether. Odd how the computer can always read the USB stick and the Concept 2 utility decides it needs to repair some files, but the PM5 will never...

Re: 2016 weight loss thread

Rob, a setback after all your hard work but it doesn’t have to be a permanent situation - you lost 9 pounds over a period of about 8 months, so you know that it’s possible to lose that weight again. 9lbs over 8 months is a rather pathetic rate of loss, considering I'm far too blubbery. I ...

If you don't use the PM5 for a good while, you may think that having checked the battery is OK, all would be fine. Check the date too. Mine decided I had gone back in time to 2013.

Re: Madchester 2016 - is ON!

Last year's Madchester was fun, in a masochistic sort of way. It would be great to go again, although May is going to be a bit of a busy month for me.

As for rowing distances, surely someone has to give the marathon a go? It would be the last weekend for the Global Marathon Challenge

Re: 2016 weight loss thread

Oh dear. If you keep stepping over that erg in the middle of your living room rather than actually using it, the consequences are somewhat predictable. March 2015 - 17st 12lb (113kg) Autumn 2015 - 17st 3lb (109kg) March 2016 - 17st 12lb (113kg) - back to square one  So having ignored this thin...

Re: Butt pain

I usually find on longer rows that I need to stand up briefly and shake it out. Having said that it's usually the buttocks that are getting sore, rather than the actual bones? Some will suffer more than others. If you are very heavy (me) then there is more weight squashing things. If you are lightwe...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Top tip. Rowing for the duration of a Davis Cup tennis match is tough as you don't know when the torture might end. Fortunately it didn't go to 5 sets.

10 x 7.5minute 2.5 minute rest at a slowish pace as it could have gone on much longer got me to 17,000m.
