Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

No yraining for a couple of days due work and family. No plan for this afternoons session so thought I'd have an early go at the CTC to see where I am at for speed work. The answer is my power and speed are no where near where they were, even though my aerobic fitness is getting back to previous lev...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Kellie, you will find that any intervals you do at quicker than a comfortable aerobic pace will adversely effect an all out sprint TT. When I was training specifically for the 500 I found I needed to add some shorter intervals to the pete plan (4x200 for power and some 100's for getting the feel for...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

Nice CTC Jon ans Erik, I hope to have a few goes at it myself this month. I'm really not sure how I will fare foe this more sprint based challenge, as I was only just starting to include so power work into my road to recovery when I had my month off. I suspect I would have been aiming for 1:30 split...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

... And I'm back. I have been dipping in and out of the forum for the last month and it's good to see all the strong sessions from Erik, Jon and others. I've only managed 6 sessions since 24th may (3 in last few days), as I was ill with gastro entiitis followed by a nasty cold then a hemorrhoid fini...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

I should be about 5:40 for 2k then Jon  as I'm quite a bit taller than Graham , Paul and Sam. I'm also at least as heavy (without much flubber) and about the same age.

Another nice UT1 session Jon. My session today was very similar. 3x3k 3 min rest 1 10:39.7 1:46.6 r26 2 10:37.2 1:46.2 r26 3 10:33.5 1:45.5 r26 T 31:50.3 1:46.1 r26 Really happy with this session as I pushed hard and was a big step up from last time I did it (2 sec ave split) must have been holding ...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

Nice couple of 12 min intervals Jon. Today I thought I'd try 2x5k with 5 min rest instead of my usual 3. The idea was to increase the pace a bit and see how my form is for longer high intensity. The answer is I'm still a little way off where I'd like to be, but improving. 5k 17:28.5 1:44.8 r26 Handl...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

Jon, I'm also tryng to get back to previous form. I find it really hard to maintain focus and motivation when it feels like I'm just getting back to square one. I have decided to race in Bristol in October to try and have something to train for. I would like to think I could get to sub 6:20 by then....

I'm still here, just not had mutch to report for last couple of weeks due work and a couple of HD's. Nice marker put down on you 2k Eric, I HDed on a 2k test recently after 1k at a similar pace (not sure if it was due to not being back at that level yet or as a result of a cold that developed a few ...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k

Nice couple of sessions Eric. I will have to have a go at my first 60 min this season. Didn't get the chanve to do any rowing yesterday as we were out at the zoo yesterday and getting ready for Oscar's 2nd birthday today. Hopefully get a session done later if I have time.

Nice 6k Eric  , I will revisit that distance this season as I've only done it once when I first started. I set my 5k and 2k pb 2 years ago this month and the form I was in then, I think sub 21 min would have been within my grasp. First proper session for a coule of weeks for me today after t...

Been a bit quiet in here lately, are you back to training after your 2k Eric? How is your training goimg Andrew, Jon and Mat? Since my last post I've done about a week of below par sessions, culminating in a failed 2k TT that I bailed on after 1k at 1:35 av. Now have done nothing for around 10 days ...

Distance pieces are interesting as they can be tackeled so many way depending on what you are trying to achieve. From a gentle recovery row through steady aerobic work to flat out time trial, or even restricted rate or fartlek if you want to mix it up.

Re: The Pete Plan

Hi Kellie, I think my view is more alligned with Rodgers than Pauls. I started out with the Pete plan beginner when I started trying to inject some focus into my training. For me it was the longer distance that I foumd the hardest (and still do) and I used the beginner pland to get used to longer di...

Nice 2k Eric, hopefully I will be back to sub 6:30 soon as well. The last week has seen me do a couple fo slower sessions and some weights and the CTC. Today was a bit of a step up and the hardest session I have done for a while. 4x2k with 3 rest 1 6:59.4 1:44.8 R26 2 6:58.9 1:44.7 R26 3 6:58.4 1:44...

Re: Elite otw rowers erg times

Thanks Boris, but they are in a totally different league to me. I would say there are a group of elite erg rowers that can post times sub 6:10 and then you have another group of the top OTW rowers going well under 6 mins. I think that to get into the first group you either need a natural gift and re...

Re: Elite otw rowers erg times

The kiwi pair on Facebook and Twitter have some amazing scores on the erg as well as a nice haul of OTW medals. 1:36.6 average for a half marathon  and a 4x2k interval session with 2 min rest where the slowet 2k was 6:06.0  . And I was happy with my December CTC (slowest interval of 3x...

Well done Cowboygrrl, now you know what to expect next time you attempt it and have a target to beat. Re: Optimum strategy for rolling starts

I do something very similar to you Barbara. For faster intervals where lactate build up can be an issue, I tend to do a lot of active rest in the rest periods. Rowing at a low rate and very light power to keep the muscles moving and blood pumping round to help carry lactate away from muscles. Regard...

My targets for this season are
1 Train regularly
2 Improve all my PBs
3 Be the fittest I have ever been when I turn 40 in Deceber
4 Complete every CTC
5 6:10 for 2k and 16:30 for 5k would be nice too
