Re: June ctc - 30 mins @ 24 spm
Took my first (and probably only attempt at the CTC today. Don't know what to say other than "it was hard". I really wanted to beat 8K, and I did by 26 meters. I was further ahead halfway through, but I was a bit afraid that I would blow up, so I slowed down a little bit. Looking at the HR...

Re: The Pete Plan
As I implemented it, I only managed to get the second session in maybe once a week or so. If you don't do the second session, then I would just try to pack in a few more minutes into the morning easy session.

Re: The Pete Plan
If you are a distance guy, then I think that tailoring the Pete Plan is a really good idea. The short intervals are not going to do you much good on a Marathon or anything longer than a 2K. Last Fall, I did a 7 week modified version of the Pete Plan focused on longer distance pieces and set a PB for...

Re: Do i need to cross train / weight train ?
Dave, A couple of other notes about trying to mix strength training with rowing. 1. The order matters. There is solid research that doing endurance training after strength training will essentially "undo" the muscle building stimulus provided by the strength training. You should wait at le...

Re: Do i need to cross train / weight train ?
Interesting question. To some extent it depends on what your goals are, and to some extent, it doesn't matter all that much. If what you want to do is lose weight and get fast on the erg, then the best course of action is to figure out how much time you have to devote to exercise and come up with a ...

Re: May ctc: Sub 7 long short intermittent intervals
I am impressed with all the results posted so far. I am also impressed by the mental effort going into optimizing the rests. I looked at it a bit differently. I figured that changing the durations of the rests would just change how much of a pace difference I could push between the short ones and th...

Re: Life after Sam
Stick with Sam, add 1 session of sprints (250 to 750m) and tack on some peak power work at the end of 2 steady state sessions a week. I think company and structure are worth sticking with. And I'm sure Sam would help you with your side project.

Re: April ctc - 2/4/6/8 mins - 1:00'/1:30'/2:00r
Lot's of good rowing on this month's CTC. Things have been a bit hectic for me lately, with my job taking a lot mor energy and travel. This has cut the amount of training I've done since February roughly in half compared to November through January. But, I really wanted to post an entry, and this mo...

Re: CTC - Ski-ergs, sliders and dynamics
I'm not sure how common it is either, but I know Bob S over on the US boards has a dynamic at home and has to travel to find a static. I think it could become a bigger deal over time as the dynamic installed base grows.

Re: CTC - Ski-ergs, sliders and dynamics
I am in favor of including static, dynamic and sliders but not the ski-erg. In my mind, the differences between the three flavors of rowing machines is narrow enough that different people will have different preferences, and in some cases those preferences might vary by event type. In a way it could...

Not as late as I am, to my own party!
I've been on a trip over to Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, and only arrived late on Friday. I was rushing around yesterday and didn't check the forum. I'm sorry I missed all the good wishes!
Time to update my signature (again).

Re: March ctc - 9 x 300m / 30"r
Nice improvement, Plummy. It's tough to carve seconds off of this one. I had another go at today as well. I suspected that I was not at my best for my first attempt, and so it seems to have been true. Last time, I managed to HD in the second rep. and I was on the edge of distaster the rest of...

Re: March ctc - 9 x 300m / 30"r
Good question. Since I failed (dramatically) when I did my 2K TT whilst succumbing to stomach flu, I don't have an accurate 2K pace to use. The 4x1K that I did earlier that week was paced at 1:40.9. In prior time trials I have been able to do my 2K about 1 or 2 splits faster than the most recent 4x1...

Re: March ctc - 9 x 300m / 30"r
A word of advice. If you haven't been doing much speed work, be very careful on pacing. I went out too hard and the minuscule 30 second rests were not long enough for me to get any meaningful recovery. I broke in the second interval at a faster pace, and then reset my goals around 1:43. Maybe I was ...

Re: ErgStick and ErgData
That's a bummer in my opinion. Any serious app of today should seamlessly sync/export to the big training log apps/sites, like Strava, Polar, Garmin, SportTracks or others, or feature a tcx export. Both ErgData and ErgStick seem to have a vested interest in NOT doing that. ErgData really wants to g...

Re: ErgStick and ErgData
Does the ErgStick provide the ability to get the raw data files from the USB itself or have you to upload the session to their website and get it from there? Is the ErgStick data compatible to "quite common" tools like Strava , SportTracks , GoldenCheetah or TrainingPeaks ? ErgStick works...

ErgStick and ErgData
Hi,
I did a comparison of the newly enhanced ErgData and the newly released product ErgStick over in a post over on my blog. If you are thinking about either of them, take a look.

Re: New toy! (PM5 monitor)
One other note. Apparently there is a beta version of erg data for android that does the magic stroke rate, pace and HR stuff. I'm not sure how you sign up for it, but you can check out the ergdata thread on the c2forum for some hints.

Re: New toy! (PM5 monitor)
My advice.... If you have a PM5 and you are not using rowpro to do online rowing with other people, then stop using rowpro. I use PM5 with ergdata on my iphone through bluetooth. It also works through bluetooth to android phones. It works great. You fire it up and then just do everything on the PM5....
