Re: Travel tips needed

Thanks for this.

We're so far only at the "we must go there" stage and will work out the travel and other stops as we go.

We are though looking at West Coast USA and perhaps driving from San Fran to Seattle. Anybody done that?

We are top of the league - a lifetime event

My football/soccer team is Southampton. I went to me first match and sat on my Dad's lap at the age of 6 (3-2 home win vs Stoke) and have since then: Seen my team get promoted and relegated; win the FA Cup; nearly go out of existence; move stadium; stay in the league by dint of last game heroics (an...

Re: Name that tune

I can sort of hear the song and it has that Beach Boys type swing and meter.

No idea what the song was called tho.

Re: Millionaires club-Season

Hello Jill, I've probably never appeared in your news on the millionaire club, but I value and welcome your commentary as an essential part of the fabric of the club and one that I'm aware many others look forward to. I hope that your sources and stress and anxiety ease in the coming months and that...

I also had no idea and cheated with Google.

And I still have no idea.

Always struggle with fantasy football when "my" players are appearing against my team (Saints).

Tended to drop them which does not usually end well.

Re: What are you watching on those long rows?

Well call me pedantic, but the "science" part of science fiction sort of indicates that there is a basis in fact? I do try to let go of the details but any lag in the story line and/or seemingly impossible physical action and I miss the next few minutes of story fretting about them. My mac...

What are you watching on those long rows?

Back in 2004 thru perhaps 2010, when I was addicted to the rower for the first time, I think a lot of listened to music to distract or provide a pace for longer pieces. I recall much debate about burning CDs with carefully constructed playlists. Since then the advent of streaming platforms has trans...

Re: The long road back

Interesting. Thinking about it I suppose rowing is harder than cycling. In cycling a two hour piece is not one I would eat on. Only more than that brings nutrition into play. I do though take salt tablets on the bike and not the rower, so perhaps will have to start doing that. I row at around 130 DR...

Re: The long road back

The best laid plans of mice and men ....? I was made redundant in 2014 but decided that I was too young and too poor to retire then. Doing what I do, not many (if any) employers were interested in offering anything part time or more importantly working at home (or at least not in London). So I start...

Re: The long road back

work just keeps getting in the way! Hopefully after a week or so away and a more settled schedule, I can get back into the low/mid 20ks again soon. After a few solid 25k- 28k, the plan is to jump to 35k and do a few of those. Then a jump to 37.5k and then an attempt on the marathon. I'm thinking lat...

Re: The long road back

Had a couple of weeks away due to work (and cycling) commitments, but went again today (close to 10k) and will be building up over the winter towards my marathon attempt.

Did some intervals today (300 r 1:20) and now know why I prefer slow and steady.

I've seen that but it still asks for the original password (ten years ago) and every combination I've tried does not work.

There seems to be no "forgotten password" link?

Re: Mind, body and soul - a musical journey

Do I remember Paul that the Dropkick Murphys used to appear on some of your playlists.

Our eldest son lives in Boston now and two years ago went to see them at the home of the Boston Bruins (ice hockey) for a St Patricks Day gig.

Looking at his video it was just an insane gig.

Music firsts

Been done before but worth repeating. You can show your age by giving us: First single you bought/downloaded First album First gig (on your own or with mates - not your parents) Best gig (so far) Before they were famous - listening or going to a gig of an unknown artist who went on to become bigger ...

He has an album of Billy Holiday covers.

We heard him sing it live in a small(ish) club and it sent shivers down your spine.

If you like him you'll like Michael Kawanuka

Re: Mind, body and soul - a musical journey

I do seem to recall Mr Gould being a long haired head banger and the music choice confirms that.

(Well aware that the long hair days are well in the past!)

Wolfie, as you said mainstream. Don't worry - nobody's listening so expand your horizons!

Re: Mind, body and soul - a musical journey

In terms of "mind", I've always been fascinated by lyrics that are clever in terms of how the writer sees things. Complex lyrics from the likes of Paul Simon, Red Hot Chillies, Eminem, Nine Inch Nails. Reserving the right to change my mind, for the moment I'm going for Wedding Day by The A...

Travel tips needed

I've decided that early in 2022 - say Feb to June - I'm taking a sabbatical. My wife and I have always wanted to visit New Zealand and I have a few pals there. My wife has family in Aus and that will have to be on the list as well. The sort of big picture plan is a month in NZ and perhaps the same i...

Mind, body and soul - a musical journey

Stealing an idea from the radio this morning. Three songs needed. "Mind" should be a song that makes you think or satisfies some sort of logical process in your head. Perhaps challenging lyrics or complex chords and melodies? "Body" is something that you want to move to (or not m...

If you like jazz laced with a bit of soul, try Jose James.

Unfortunately the full effect of his singing does not come over that well in digital form, but live he is astounding.
