He's an obviously talented boy and we should admire him. Unfortunately the English (not Scots, Welsh, Irish) attitude to people who are dedicated, focussed and ruthless is that they are arrogant. Perhaps this is because of our natural propensity to support the underdog and then get all upset when th...

Exponential gains
I've just noticed that so far this season I am about 50k below my total for the whole of last season. Should blow this away over the next week or so. :D Having joined FS in early June (thank you Gregor), I put this down entirely to the motivation and help of all my team mates. So thanks to you all a...

Beer names then; Is it the Hobgoblin that has the brew called Dogs Bollocks? Remember having some before a game between Reading and Wolves some years back but don't remember the game. We have a popular brew here called Hop Back Summer Lightening. Very nice on a sunny summer evening. We also have a b...

Alistair, this morning's effort I have rationalised a bit now. I see that our times/distances are very similar so perhaps I'll focus on edging towards them! The Pete plan is the one where you try and do just a little better than the previous effort isn't it? Lots of intervals and shorter stuff. At t...

Mike, your comments have eased the mental anguish a bit but the previous PB's I was not really aiming at until perhaps the last few minutes/mtres. Thought that the longer pieces I had done in the summer were paying off but we'll see. Might be a reaction to my weight loss program as well. I'm trying ...

Second PB in three days! :D This time at 30 mins, up by a modest 54 mtres (7158) but up over 100 this season. Given my previous best was two surgeries ago I'm dead chuffed. Not really looking for it but I think those long hard rows in the heat earlier this year are beginning to make a difference. Wi...

Us lesser mortals
In the theme of the 20k a day extreme league, I am going to set up a blatant copy cat but with a slight twist. 20k a day for those on target for 3m + a season is great. Those who are looking to get a lesser total however will see perhaps 15k or 10k or even 5k a day as an achievement. I am therefore ...

Too late Mike - through the 100m mark. 8) Mr Sims will probably use this as an excuse for another ELM challenge, perhaps 17,840 mtrs being the amount we have gone over the 100m? I'm sure he'll think of something. Don't have the technical knowledge to know who pushed us over the line here and it prob...

Mike, I know you're famed for long distances and the hard yards but even you might find 116k in one sitting a little too much? We should have set a competition about 200k ago. The team mate who rowed the 100 millionth metre gets a free T shirt, if there's enough in the kitty? :D Perhaps this ...

I have to say that I have never had a blister caused by rowing. Equally I don't really get calluses (callusi?) except on the left hand just below my wedding ring. I have always held the handle at the crux of finger and palm and sometimes further out when reaching for that extra something. The forum ...

Can we sign up a few of the nutters (sorry rowers) who appear here?
http://www.oceanrowing.com/
I suspect that their training schedules include an indoor machine.

Later and later
Sorry guys, just catching up after a couple of weeks off.
Following up on The Slug's idea and bearing in mind the frantic training for BIRC why not an interval?
Say 4 x 1k with 30 sec rest?
Too late??????
