I'll join in for a 50k. I'm planning on doing a 60k on Oct 15th, but I think I'll be well recovered in time for the 11th November. I won't say I'll do any more than that because I'm oh-so-slowly working my way up to a full 100k and don't want to rush my fences and fail.
But I'm up for 50k

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Thread
That's just over half a kilo. Less than half a bag of sugar..... not really all that much! And if you're really good next week you can get rid of that titchy gain in no time :). And it's fantastic considering you were on holiday and surrounded by all that temptation. Well done for such a very small ...

No worries Paul - thanks for the welcome
Mike - it's good to have another newbie for company! I see you've had both hips replaced earlier this year - it's amazing that you're rowing so soon afterwards - well done you .

Re: Sore bum
I got one of these seat pads http://www.pro-row.com/page6.htm . They are machine washable, tumble dry and make all the difference for me. It's meant I can do the longer distances without feeling like I need to give up because of pain in my bottom. Yeah I get pain but it's liveable with. By the end o...

Never seen:
The Little Shop of Horrors - I keep meaning to; it just never happens.
Must see:
Johnny Got his Gun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Got_His_Gun_(film) - the single most personally influential film I think I have ever seen.

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Thread
Yeah, I stick to an average of 100g a day of carbs which is way above ketosis level, but low enough to minimise insulin requirements. Less insulin you need, the finer the control you can maintain. And I think I have about 1400 calories a day. I still row, and I walk the dogs but I don't get to the g...

Think I've found a very happy home thanks Hewitt! cweed (love that name!) - I don't have RowPro. In all honesty, I am sooooooo slow that I'm not sure there's a whole lot of point to it, except for me to wave bye-bye to everyone as they fire off into the distances  Slowsi I am not a betting woma...

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Thread
Meant to say - I signed up to one of those weight loss food diary sites. Very, very useful. I used a British one which was helpful because it had all the foods we eat logged and could call them up, which saved yonks working out how many calories in this or that. And there were exercise logs (include...

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Thread
Got to admit I worked out like a demon while I was seriously making efforts. And my husband (who is the house cook - in sheer self defence  ) was very careful about the calorie content of my food. For the last five months I ended up carb counting as well as calorie counting which is something t...

Metallica - Master of Puppets - 1986
I've loved this track since I first heard it. I think it has sooo much to give. And it pleases something in me that's hard to identify. I just play it a lot.

Re: How do you stop getting bored while rowing?
I have a laptop nearby that plays DVD's of Tom & Jerry cartoons, or the Looney Tune ones. But usually - I have a 2Gb MP3 player stuffed with tracks and have it on permanent shuffle. I used to "drown" a pair of earbuds a month but I finally paid out to get some Sennheiser Adidas waterpr...

Re: Recovery from blisters
I used Gripads for ages and they work well - http://www.gripad.co.uk/ - not costly with free p&p. I liked that they do a ladies size one, and didn't make my hands feel constricted. Eventually I stopped using them but my hands have been OK which surprised me. Must have toughened up without me not...

My latest "must listen" bands are Black Stone Cherry (just love White Trash Millionaire), Chickenfoot (anything with Satriani has to be good, but this supergroup is totally incredible), and back to basics with Saxon and Twisted Sister. Somehow always end up back with them, and Metallica. A...

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Thread
Oh I'm glad to have found this place! I'm still trying to lose those pesky last 10lbs that just won't go! They stick to my tummy and hips like they're never gonna leave  It's taken me about a year to lose 75lbs and go from UK dress size 24 to 14 but I still have that last bit to go. Great to h...

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Thanks Stan - it's good to be here! I'm working toward longer distances and did my first ever 50km last month. I want to try at 60km at the end of October with the plan being 75km on December 28th. (I love a plan ...). Mind you, it could all go wotsits up but it's good to have something to wor...

Re: WELCOME to New Members
Hi, my name is Wendy, I'm 54 and I have just joined the Free Spirits :D. I'm a metre muncher, not a speed merchant but do love sitting there plodding through the distances! I started rowing when I began a weight loss and fitness campaign and so far I've lost about 7 stones (I know we work in Kgs now...
