Re: August CTC - Free Spirits to choose challenge
Stan's spam dragged me out the woodwork (or rather got me off my rowperfect and onto the concept 2 for a change!) All I can say is I'm glad the club is only celebrating its 9th birthday  Total: 6651m av 2:01.7 25 spm Although for some reason pace rounded down to 2:01.8 when I posted to the CTC ...

Thanks for the advice Greg - so sounds like not a challenge to do strapless given the benefit of an exaggerated lay back!

Re: Lactate based training
Sorry dropped off this discussion - been a hermit rowing in my garage on my RowPerfect for the past few weeks as explained in a couple of other posts and haven't been on the forum due to this and crazy time at work - very interested in this, as I've often wondered whether my steady state rows are ea...

Re: July CTC: 2 minutes at 20spm or less...
 Agreed - hardly one for LWT's and ladies is it? (no disrespect aimed at LWT's and ladies looking forward to it) Oh boy this is a very twisted challenge  You're right plummy it is not really one for us 'less heavy' individuals out there! I will give it a go, although I have been a he...

Re: WAARC - June 2013 - 1km
Well sadly I didn't get to have a proper go at the 1k - meant to, but my coach reckoned that being the off season down here I should just be doing a whole lot of long steady state rows which I have been doing.. And because I have mainly been doing them on my RowPerfect in my garage (where I can watc...

Ha - yes it was! I think of everything in terms of split, forget sometimes that's not appropriate!
Thanks

Re: Beginners
greg / zoot - Interested in the lactate testing / meter discussion and I read the thread in rowingillustrated you linked to zoot - very interesting. As someone who does a lot more interval type training than most people, I haven't given a whole lot of thought (probably erronously!) to the intensity ...

Re: June CTC: "Half a Pyramid"
Good efforts everyone! Greg impressed you got so close to your 2k pace
Eric - that is fast
Good to see such a strong early participation! I think this one has the benefit of mystery since most people haven't done this session before

Re: The Pete Plan
Good session Mark - it is definitely a hard one, especially the last rep if you've gone even a bit too fast on the first 3!
Your current 2k PB is definitely a goner - I think that 4x1k session is typically around 2k pace. Will be very interested to see how low you can get it!

Re: WAARC - June 2013 - 1km
Was impressed you had a SB Dave but then I remembered that the season is only a month old - but well done all the same  So I have been enjoying the past 3 weeks, start of my off season down here; starting to get chilly and so doing some nice steady state rows on the erg and water has been th...

Re: June CTC: "Half a Pyramid"
Maybe I'm the first person to try this challenge! There won't be many others based in Aus or NZ who tried the challenge on the first morning in June! Even the C2CTC website hasn't changed over to June's challenge yet! Some observations: a) 1 minute rest is not very long and b) my legs ache! Decided ...

Re: Pete Plan or Concept 2 ?
This thread has a fair bit of detail / experiences about the Pete Plan v IP: http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2601 Personally I prefer the Pete Plan as a) 2 interval sessions a week are enough for me since I also row on the water; b) I like the consistency of sessions s...

Re: Drag factor /strokes per min
Hi Shaughnessy and welcome, Here's a great technique video that shows how you get power at lower ratings: eqVmMd7FdAA In terms of drag factor, it's especially important for your pupils that they're using a lower rating so they don't do any damage given they are still developing physically. Year 6 ki...

Looks like fun! How do you think it should be paced? At least it should be easy to negatively split it!

Re: The Pete Plan
Good session spider, that is a high stroke rate but, hey, if it feels comfortable and you can sustain it and you go faster.... I know I couldn't sustain that spm for any longer than 2k, but I do rate quite slowly.. And since you don't row OTW (I don't think?) it doesn't matter if you're rushing the ...

Re: Beginners
Great post zoot, your honesty and humour are very refreshing and make your posts enjoyable to read.. I particularly agree that things are rarely black and white; and personally I feel a routine is essential - if I'm not 100% I'll still stick to my training sessions but sometimes just do a light warm...

Your white shirt with the red stripe looks like the german national jersey. The yellow racing shell looks like a german one (Empacher). Are you sure you aren't german?  You're right my boat looks like an Empacher, but it's actually a Ted Hale (be surprised if there are many of these outs...
