Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I had to share this session with you all - look at the splits! Session was 10x1' / 1' rest. It's supposedly a 1k race pace + 0.5s, so I was targeting 1:48.5 1. 278m 1:47.9 35 2. 278m 1:47.9 34 3. 278m 1:47.9 33 4. 278m 1:47.9 33 5. 278m 1:47.9 33 6. 278m 1:47.9 33 7. 278m 1:47.9 33 8. 278m 1:47.9 34...

Re: February CTC - 30 minutes

Did this challenge today - managed 7118m @ 2:06.4, 23 spm. Splits below make it look quite a boring row, but I had an encounter with the handle down demons after about 7 or 8 minutes that almost derailed the whole thing: HDDs: 'Hey Millie - you don't usually row for more than 2k without a break and ...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Today was my 1km PB attempt, postponed almost two weeks due to illness. I thought I was capable of achieving my sub-3:30 target, but it turns out I wasn't even close. You were close! Only 1.9 seconds off breaking 3:30 =D> =D> Any PB is a massive achievement so well done =D> =D> =D> You are right th...

Re: CTC - January 2013

Thanks Mat and congrats to everyone who completed the challenge =D> =D> =D> I didn't particularly enjoy it (bit long for me) but I know that doing sessions I don't enjoy are good for me (in a similar way to bad tasting medicine :) ) as indicates an area I need to improve on... plus there is a certai...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Good splits Alan =D> I'd say you are certainly ready to break your 1k PB - given your times for the same session before you did the 3:34 I certainly think 3:30 is very achieveable... all the best with your attempt today. Just remember - when you get to 250m to go you have a choice - hang on and limp...

Re: Alan, Stan & Simon's 2km Friday Funathon

I did think about it.... But Fridays are bad for me as I have an OTW session first thing and I can't fit in more than one session a day.... Will see what time I get off the water and how hard a session it is - you never know

Re: The Pete Plan

Speed intervals for me this morning - I know the Pete Plan has 8 x 500m / 3.30r but given my focus is 1k not 2k I only ever do 5 x 500m / 3.30r so I can go a bit faster than if I had done 8 sets (or is this just cheating???). Target pace 1:50 1. 1:51.0 @ 31 - for some reason I totally stopped with a...

Re: WAARC - February 2013 - 500m

Looking forward to giving this one a go, like the idea of weight and age adjustments, but it got me thinking - is there a way of adjusting for sex as well? So could just have the one leaderboard with men and women combined? Practical problem is I suspect it is not a 'standalone' adjustment and it pr...

Re: The Pete Plan

Thanks for the encouragement guys :) I like to think my technique is okay, but my (OTW) coach always seems to find something to criticise whenever he sees me on the erg! I do get an advantage via using sliders - for me I think it's 1-2 seconds per 500m. Haven't tested it properly, but I do feel bett...

Re: The Pete Plan

Have been doing the Pete Plan for about 6 months but put it on hold about 3 weeks ago to focus on 1k specific training for a 1k erg test I was supposed to have week after next for OTW selection - anyway, they told us today that the erg test will now be at the end of Feb not the start of it :!: :!: s...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Have just over a week to go until a 1k erg test so I copied AlanS' session from yesterday since looks like it might be a good indication of potention 1k time? 6 x 250m / 1r 1. 1:46.8 @ 34 2. 1:44.8 @ 34 3. 1:44.6 @ 34 4. 1:45.2 @ 34 5. 1:44.6 @ 36 6. 1:44.6 @ 34 Av. 1:45.1 @ 34 I've never done a ful...

Re: Taming the gym?

Heh heh  Mind you, I guess 18:51 is not bad for a 'non-rower' My personal favourite is when people get on the rower next to me and proceed to do a kayaking motion on it. I have no idea whether the concept2 is in any way shape or form designed to be used in such a way (maybe it is in which case ...

Re: What do you *watch* when you are rowing?

I watch DVDs that have subtitles (so sound off, sure wouldn't hear it anyway over the noise of the erg and the fan) - usually for me it's the current or previous series of Doctor Who - an episode is about the same length as most of my sessions. Also like Harry Potter films. I like something that I'v...

Re: CTC - January 2013

Just did my 17 minutes of pain... I know all of you with 'HM' and 'FM' in your signatures will laugh at this but 17 minutes is long distance for me :) Well I do race mainly over 1k OTW and have a 1k erg test coming up so fair to say that my training is somewhat focused on the shorter distances! Was ...

Hi, I logged my first distance for the Virtual team challenge today (and I checked to make sure it got added to the Free Spirits total) - wasn't a very impressive distance though, only 5182m, most of that warm up and warm down  Got a 1km erg test in a couple of weeks for State masters quad sele...

Thanks for the welcome Stan. I have just joined the Virtual challenge - guess will have to start logging my kms! i do most of my distance OTW though which doesn't count. How do I join up to do the C2CTC? And yes sign me up for the nonathlon too, although it's been a long time since I've done a piece...

Hello, Just joined today - have been a keen erger for a while and thought it was time to share the pain.. Free Spirits seems to be a 'friendly non-eliteist but competitive' team which hopefully describes me as well :D I'm based in Sydney, am 41, female, 66kgs, 2 kids under 6 Do training OTW (scullin...
