Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

Okay, after reading about big John's amazing hour I feel really goofy about even posting this but I had a pretty good workout today. Managed a season's (but nowhere near PB) 16064 for the hour. I used to bang out 16k+ with ease but this season I'm finding keeping up with my last year's training a r...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Awesome 60 minutes John - absolutely HUGE! =D> =D> =D> Congrats again to Hewitt and Machine for their performances at Grimsby and all the other FS'rs who pulled a PB. (side note - it was actually quite a nice town - well, the bit I saw, despite it's reputation). I'll sneak a line in here as I improv...

Re: Grimsby Mile

I was back a while ago but other duties kept me from the forum. Despite mumblings about not wanting to race with iffy form, tight groins (again), a miserable handle down two days ago etc etc etc I decided to go and drove over with Jason (Hewitt) which helped break up the long drive and split the cos...

Re: Grimsby Mile

Tried a 1500m tonight as a tester - unmitigated disaster - handled down with the PM4 stopping at 1214m. The PM4 says I did it in 1:46.2 splits but I didn't press any buttons when I handled down and I know it "ramps down" before stopping the count. Not sure if I didn't warm up enough (10 mi...

Re: WELCOME to New Members

Welcome Damian, As Strider says, you are free to do as much or as little as you want but you do tend to find that the majority tend to stick to the more "recognised" distances as this gives you a better comparison to others abilities. Regards the signature box you only have the recognised ...

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

After my 30 minutes seasons best 3 days ago turned out to be only 0.4 seconds per 500m split slower than my current 6k seasons best, I figured I should be able to improve my 6k time. I've been down in Kent at HQ so forced away from ergs for 2 days also (nice little rest really). Was 22:59.5 now 22:4...

Thanks for the reminder Strider - and you are, of course correct. I look too often at my negatives and not enough at any achievements. Also, I should remember that nobody in Free Spirits should be judged according to how fast/far we go (although we enjoy heaping praise where it is due) so no-one sho...

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

Inspired by some of the massive improvements by the big guys I tried for a 30 minutes seaons best - AND ACTUALLY SUCCEEDED!! After a solid 60 minutes yesterday I wasn'r sure if the legs would hold out but it felt steady to 20 minutes in and I only started wobbling in the last 3 or 4 - pulled flat ou...

Re: Rowing is hard isn't it!

Welcome back Thomas - (it almost makes you want a long term lay off so at least you can see some improvements when you come back). I'm jealous of all the younger guys and gals who have youth on their side for more continued improvement rather than being in my mid forties and reckoning I've been as g...

Re: Training Too Hard Per Session

Why? Because, when I have a good day, I delude myself that I've finally cracked it and I'm going to "make hay while the sun shines" and break all my PBs/SBs over the following week. And when I have a really bad session, I figure I'm never going to get anywhere near my all time PBs ever ag...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Quick 2 minute warm up then set the PM4 for an hour. Got the split gradually down to average 2:00 splits at 45 mins and handled down - 11251m Disappointed I couldn't do another 10 as I know I wouldn't handle down with 5 to go. Seasons best was a possibility until then Plummy Somebody needs to shout ...

Odd one tonight as I fancied something different and a bit saucy (don't tell the wife!!) 10 minute warm up - 2356m 7 x 1000m at increasing pace each split 1) 4:00.1 (2:00.0) 2) 3:56.0 (1:58.0) 3) 3:52.0 (1:56.0) 4) 3:48.0 (1:54.0) 5) 3:43.9 (1:51.9) 6) 3:39.9 (1:49.9) 7) 3:33.9 (1:46.9) 3 minute res...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Amazing 6 x 2k from Anthony Webb (for a nearly LWT) Nice 60 mins Kingy, it's good when you feel some progress. Set for a HM (more in hope than anything) but bailed at 60 mins with a 14756. I'd held back up to around 40 mins at which point an HM was looking doubtful. When I finally decided an hour wa...
