Re: Crazy Bear Challenge

Only just seen this. Thanks, Plummy, although my effort is nothing compared to your 1 million meter experience - I seriously don't know how you did that. Or Paul G's 24 hours thing. Or even the 100k's people do. I did indeed go back and make sure I got a nice round 650k for the month for a marginal ...

Re: Mud Season Madness

There's also a one-off 5k on 8th for International Women's Day, the Erg Sprints 1k 9th to 13th, and then some Distance challenge later in the month too.

Re: Mud Season Madness

Having worked hard in Jan, and then not done a lot of rowing in Feb, I'm back on the wagon for March (although probably not at HM a day level)

Re: February ctc - 3 x 1 mile / 3’r

Some amazing results there - well done all. And quite a range of ratings too, from Claudius at 35 to Mat down at 25. Mine seemed to work at 28-29.
I also managed to hit a recent high for HR on my final set, reaching 183 by the end.
Great to see you back on such impressive form again, Mat!

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2021-22

I did indeed manage to get the 2k in this morning at 7am after work prevented it last night. I somehow managed to find a marginal SB (albeit against a fairly weak previous time), so my Nonathlon even moved slightly after 9 months+ of being static too. I think I managed to get the fastest unadjusted ...

Re: CTC - Carole McNally Memorial

Done mine. Find myself in the strange position of being first in the top boat on the CTC - not sure that's ever happened to me before. (Until Mat enters his time, anyway). Had the honour of being one of Carole's relay team foot-strappers in one of the races during 2004 Grand Prix Series. She was suc...

Re: Upcoming Challenges

Yours puts mine to shame, Carole! I didn't even (!) make 50 hours Congratulations! You made The Long Haul and rowed, skied or rode for 49 hrs 17 mins in January! Thanks Draggon - not sure I'd recommend the Continuously Crazy Bear, but I am glad I completed it. I quite often get glutes grief during t...

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge

Carole, you've been rowing not far off that EVERY DAY - your accomplishment puts mine to shame - there's no way I could face what you've done! (Hope you've finished off that SuperHero level now)

Re: Upcoming Challenges

Excellent first HM, @Draggon! Faster than the vast majority of my recent ones, and looks well under control too. The aching glutes is something I can sympathise with! For setting the PM, I usually do mine with (21x) 1000m splits, and that last 97m (which catches your sprint pace if you're finishing ...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2021-22

Dragged myself back to the shed to complete the 1min for IRL. Went better than I expected, given that I've done very high (for me) volumes of low intensity this month. Aim was to be at 1:30, but managed to get ahead, and by half way I could tell that I wasn't going to blow, so upped the rate and got...

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge

It's DONE. I give you, the Continuously Crazy Bear - 30 HMs in 30 days. Can't say it has been fun, or particularly good for my fitness overall (yet). I have (predictably) got very efficient at grinding out HMs at 2:20. My knees are sore - I have some new callouses on the fingers (and I've gone throu...

Re: 2022 - Virtual Team Challenge

Jon - Guy Blackburn has put in a massive amount of distance lately, according to the meterboard, but he doesn't show on your (excellent) Virtual Team Challenge Page. Maybe we need to make sure he's registered for the team challenge (somehow). Conversely, Sharon Wilhelm Antisdel is a SuperHero on the...

Re: Upcoming Challenges

How's everyone else's challenges going? I'm slogging away on the HM a day thing, and approaching the final challenge of rowing every day in Jan. I think I've hit my longest continuous daily rowing streak (by days and by distance). Not sure if I'll hit my highest for one month. Crazy bear is now at 2...

The Long Haul You have challenged yourself to The Long Haul. Your target is to row, ski or ride for at least 30 hours in January. Good luck! Congratulations! Re: Crazy Bear Challenge

Confess to getting close to losing the continuous run over the last three days, but just about managing to keep motivated, despite sub zero conditions in the rowing shed (at least at the start; it gets quite a bit warmer by the end...)

(It was freezing cold in the rowing shed this morning: -1.5 degrees!)

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard

Great to see you posting times, Huw!
Great also to see you back rowing, Mat - fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

I did 6k @ 2:00 as the first part of my HM yesterday, but having not set the splits correctly, I didn't get an exact time, so I'll have to do it again... :-(

As with everything, it is all about the pacing.
Although I have noted some general wear-and-tear issues, both in joint aches and in getting sore hands.
I'm on 13/30 after today, and today's tougher session went better than expected...
