Re: LADIES banter/training/motivation thread ??

It's tomorrow - at the moment I am in my sitting room in a sea of boxes... and thinking how quiet life is going to be. In some ways it'll be good, in others not. But the rowing is a terrific way of releasing the stress of it all!

Re: 2012 Weight Loss Thread

Okay - for one week! No choccy and no biccies. Not a square and not a crumb. This might be quite a challenge for me!

Re: 2012 Weight Loss Thread

I think it's time I decided that piling on the pounds doesn't count as convalescence any more when you're bouncing with health, rowing like a demon and busily stuffing back the chocolate bars and biscuits  So - this week, I'm going to try really hard and not eat any of those bars 'n biccies and...

Re: LADIES banter/training/motivation thread ??

I'm getting a little fraught! My son leaves home on Tuesday, having announced the fact a week ago. He seems to be taking half the household with him! And it's me that's packing it because he works all hours god sends and simply hasn't the time. I'm rowing as a way of releasing the stress, and have p...

Re: Meter board banter

Yeah but I am insulin dependent diabetic - sugar (on a normal day) is totally out of bounds for me unless I want to use loads of insulin. Problem with lots of insulin - it encourages weight gain and it doesn't help with really strict blood sugar control. I try to eat a very low carb diet as a rule, ...

Re: Meter board banter

Good idea Tina - I wonder if I can get away with using the pretend sugar, and get the carbs down even more? Hmmm... Thanks Mike - all I have today is an ache in one quad, a blister on one heel and blisters on two fingers. Not bad! And now I know that the trainers I wore are great for short pieces bu...

Re: Meter board banter

Today (legs and breath willing) is a FM. It's an anniversary row and matters to me and I'm hoping that will pull me through. Tell you what though, I had jammy toast after my bacon & eggs today (need the carbs) and find that jam is horrible; it's so sweet. I haven't had any for yonks and doubt I'...

Re: Summer Solstice Challenge

Did the HM but chugged along because I plan on a FM on Sunday, and didn't want to get overtired.

Hey Paul - you did 22k in one day. That's brilliant because it's not that long since you thought you weren't going to be capable of doing that kind of thing any more - so well done you =D>

Re: Meter board banter

Ha! Made it into the 20's. Won't last because tomorrow is my day off and I'll get bumped back down again, but at the moment, and as I stagger off to re-arrange the furniture upstairs, I feel terrific. Saw the quack today who thinks I'm doing great. I really didn't need a medic to tell me that :D. He...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)

I know! I am so very much wanting to go. My son saw them at Download this year and said they were brilliant (as were so many of the bands). My husband is anything but a metalhead (think Bananarama ....). I hate rocking our boat but I so very much want to see Nightwish. I am working on strategies and...

Re: Summer Solstice Challenge

I'll do a comfortably paced HM because I am doing an FM on the 24th (I promised myself I would do one in June, during my involuntary time off). I had thought I'd try for one on the Solstice, but the 24th suits me better as a sort of "Anniversary Marathon".

Re: My Favourite Session/Distance is ...

I voted other because my favourite is 25k - well, it was, but I've only done it once since climbing back on my erg. Still - I enjoyed it very much. Except for the bit from about 13k to go down to about 9k left. For some odd reason those 4,000m are always the time when I start thinking things like &q...

Re: My LEAST Favourite Session/Distance is ...

I voted for 2k but really I'd say anything under about an hour long. I am not one of life's hares - I plough on regardless, but with a sort of steady determination rather than any sort of trail blazing displays of speed .... gets discouraging, but we are what we are. But the words "time trial&q...

Re: My favourite row ever was...

My favourite was the marathon I did on June 24th 2011. I did it to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of my dad and in thanks for my own life. It went wonderfully - absolute dream row - no pain, no hypo, no nothing except fun throughout. My gym stuck my favourite C2 in the middle of the floor...

Re: LADIES banter/training/motivation thread ??

I have always wanted to try something like that! When I was seriously into karate we used to do weekend courses away in the wilds of Wales and train outdoors every day for several hours starting with the pre-breakfast long run, and then an outdoor sparring session. It was February. There were sheep ...

Re: Meter board banter

Looking forward to the long weekend; hoping to get a few metres in, and will try for the leap to half-marathon. Considering I used to knock these out without a second thought, it feels very strange to be trying for that distance, rather than convinced it'll be fine and it's just a question of the t...

Re: Meter board banter

I just checked in on the meter board and noticed a -83K adjustment to my meters. Looks like the same has happened to a bunch of others. DId the algorithm get fixed to subtract on the water meters? What did I miss?! Spare a thought for Roy Palmer, 22nd to 173rd as a result of the change! - Iain Ouch...

Great - very Avenged Sevenfold and I like them a lot! The vocalist is good, sort of reminds me of the guy in Black Stone Cherries. (And I love his voice!)

Re: Meter board banter

Slowly increasing distances - I'm really having fun! I dredged an old CD player and speakers out of the loft (well, alright - my husband did; I'm OK getting into the loft but rotten at getting down again  ). Much nicer than using the old bass amp with my MP3 player, and also better than earbuds...

Nightwish. Both when they had Tarja as lead singer and with Anette Olsen. Also Sonata Arctica, Apocalyptica and Tarot. Getting very fond of Finnish metal bands. Nightwish are going to be at Download. My son is going for the whole thing (does every year) and I am sea-green jealous. I've loved them fo...
