The Prodigal Returns
Hi, It's been a while. Although I have been regularly lurking on the forum, I haven't been posting much. My life has gotten quite hectic over the past couple of years for generally happy reasons. I was promoted at work and my wife and I bought a nice little vacation house near the beach. I like my n...

Re: Lactate based training
to follow up on my last post, I dug out the result of my first lactate step test from October 2013, so just over 4 years ago. I was in a bit better shape then, but the results are roughly similar. https://quantifiedrowing.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/11-10a.png If you are interested, here are links t...

Re: Lactate based training
It's been an eventful year, but that's a story for another thread. With the end of the OTW season, I am returning to mostly erg based training. Looking over my past results, it's pretty clear that I had my best results when I used a polarized training program and used lactate measurement to guide th...

Oh, that's so sad. He was a really inspiring figure for me when I first joined Free Spirits. I'll miss having him on the boards.

Re: July ctc - 4k pyramid / 1'r per 250m rowed
Hi! Remember me? I'm the guy who's been under a rock for the past few months. Anyway, I'm in Shanghai, and by a stroke of luck, ended up at a hotel with 2 genuine concept2 Model D ergs, so I decided to take a shot at the CTC. I'd like to just to set up my excuses before I tell you my score. - Jetlag...

Re: Training without a heart rate monitor
HI, I have two ideas for you. 1. Learn about the Borg Scale. This is a scale of Perceived Exertion, and it just helps put a number to how you feel. Kind of like the pain scales that they use in the emergency room. 2. If you are really interested in having a way to see how hard you are working, you c...

Re: The Pete Plan
I have a few questions for you Pete planners. Do you use ergdata or painsled or rowpro? Do you track hr? Are you interesting in using advanced tools to describe and share you misery? If the answer to these questions is yes, then sander has something for you to try. On his website rowsandall, there i...

I went again yesterday. Improved to 1:44.2 (4319m). After I finished, I noticed that this put me 3 meters behind Felton. ugh.

Wow Dan, you are light years ahead of me! I did an attempt today, but kept the rate down to 24 SPM. I haven't had much time on the erg lately due to travel, and I've nothing no sprinting since before my knee surgery. You might say I had low expectations. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i148/gregor...

John, Congratulations on a great result in a tough venue. They say you give up a couple seconds for the race start any way. Barbara asks an interesting question. What does doubling down mean? Will you change you training strategy or just try to increase volume and intensity? Haico: Fantastic time in...

My wife and i went away for the weekend and I brought my erg with me! (She wasn't amused)   Of course, the reason I have time to even type this update is that I am on a plane to Korea. What? You're not taking your erg? I hate checking luggage. Otherwise I might.

Re: Marathon Training.
Well, I've been a busy boy. Work has me running around like crazy, so my training has been a bit sporadic. I was traveling last week, so I lost a fair number of training days. I got home on last Friday morning on the redeye, and I've done 8 straight sessions since then. My wife and i went away for t...

Re: Millionaires club-Season
I just noticed today that I passed 20MM back in November! Wow! that's a real milestone (kilometer stone?)
It's taken just about 8 years to do that.
As usual, I am irrationally happy about the free tote bag that I am going to get from Concept2!

Hi, Sorry for posting and then disappearing. Ive been dealing with a bit of a situation at work that has really reduced my available forum time. I've been experimenting with the Eddie Fletcher training sessions and I really like them. I've decided that I am going to do the EF 5 session a week plan, ...

Re: 7 min 2 K possible?
Old school. You probably can get to <7min by doing 3 hard days, but I want to just raise a point. A 7 minute 2k takes 7 minutes, obviously. Most analysis of that effort show that it relies about 70 to 80% on your aerobic fitness. On hard days, you are doing a little work to improve your aerobic fitn...

Re: Marathon Training.
It will be great to have some company for this adventure. I had my first post-surgery row yesterday and it went quite well. My aerobic fitness is off a bit due to the 2 week layoff and a couple weeks before that when I was training around the injury, but the range of motion in my knee seems as good ...

Re: Marathon Training.
Gotta love a solid plan. Sounds cool. Is your target a solo event or a team? I'll be doing it solo in my Alden Star. It's a very cool race, you row around Cape Ann in Massachusetts. The total distance is a bit over 20 miles, but because open water conditions can vary so much, the amount of time it ...

Marathon Training.
Hi, In a couple of weeks, I'm planning to start training for a long (~20 mile) open water event that takes place in July. I'm planning to use the Eddie Fletcher Training Plan, which is published on the Indoor Sport Services website. Here: https://indoorsportservices.co.uk/download.php?file=assets/do...
