Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Nice 1/2 hour Spider, and a very nice HM to follow =D> =D> The mental battle towards the end certainly wasn’t reflected in the splits, though perhaps you were just wanting to get it over with! Bit of a transition week for me - finished the 30/30 plan and in two minds as to where to go next. 60’ Zwif...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Good session Colin… building the pace through that session must have been hard work ^O^ Nice on Jon - it is surprising how the changes in rate keep things interesting… and get harder as the rate and pace increase  30’@R18 for me today… steady bottom session with the inevitable negative split ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Thanks Iain. I too tend to find that the accountability of posting is often needed to keep me going, plus the feeling that we’re all in this together!! Nice consistent pace on that final HM Ian - have a great holiday :D Started the week back on Session 1 of the 30/30 plan again. I baled early on thi...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Very nicely controlled negative split HM ^O^ Colin - it would be lovely to see you here again sometime… seems like another lifetime when you stayed with us  Nice rowing session, but I’ve a feeling the Crit ride made you sweat more :D Spider - I feel your pain… perfect splits and then you fal...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

So, yesterday was a weights day and this morning was to be a free rate 30’ But… as I began the row, my eye kept drifting to the open door of our gym and the sunshine outside, and my thoughts to the new e-mountain bike that was delivered yesterday And I figured that the Erg would still be there tomor...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Felt reasonably controlled, and certainly easier than Monday. As I'm picking up the pace the slow splits are becoming less restful mind you. Really nice Ian - certainly looks controlled as you say, but I can't imagine any elements of an HM feeling restful 8) Really good session to come back to Spid...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

A bit easier this morning… a gentle 30R18 to start the day, followed by 20’ Zwifting on the bike

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Great sessions Ian - especially that incredibly well controlled and consistent HM ^O^ Colin - well done on the Zwift podium =D> Great to see the 5k plan sessions going well too 8) Nothing this weekend for a change (pretty hectic weekend with other stuff), so this morning was a 30' session followed b...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I figure it’s important to report the not-so-good as well as the sessions that went well. Sometimes you’re the hammer, and sometimes the nail (and sometimes you allow your mind to convince you that you’re the nail) I knew todays session would be tough as it repeated one from about 10 days ago that w...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Its been a few days since I posted so it looks as if I've quite a bot to catch up on  Ian - consistent improvements showing on all of your sessions lately - you regularly seem to be 2s/500 faster than previously =D> =D> Nailed the 4' session, hit the 7' head on even with 1' rest, and you ca...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I hope they’ll get a bit more interesting, I certainly enjoyed the 5k plan Colin - hope you do too. It’s a good mix of faster and also longer stuff without getting too fast or too long!! It's a very good sequence of sessions Mat - if not for the jumble or sessions I currently have I might try that....

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Nice HM and an even nicer PB Ian =D> =D> Mat, I'm embarrased to say I had calculated a selective sample from which I made my comments! So no need to bore others with the data in the future! No calculations needed today Iain - you’d piqued my interest and so I included SPI in the readout today: a rat...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

I was just paddling initially, then thought I'd have a go at a negative split. No prizes for guessing when I though a decent time was on the cards  The PBs that creep up on you are the best… no pressure or stress, and no risk of blowing up early… just that pleasant thought that “this could be ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Thanks for the insight Iain - I've no recollection of studies into long distance erging as i haven't really looked into it to the extent that I did when running Your observations on the recovery are interesting, but in all honesty I'm not convinced that there's too much "intention" in ther...

Lots going on here with some great work on the Erg ^O^ Iain - sounds like you’re in a tough place at the moment. Kudos for keep on moving forward - I’m sure it’ll come good :) Claudius - very nice FM =D> =D> and huge respect for fighting through to the end. I must confess to not having the “Death be...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Personally, I've seen significant benefits from the steady state pieces I've included. Absolutely Ian - you've continued to make some really strong improvements and I've no doubt at all that this is due in part to the longer stuff. I certainly didn't mean to denigrate the steady state UT1 and UT2 s...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Nice couple of 30r20 sessions on here - good work Spider on rescuing your workout

The RA plan called on me to perform the same today… decided to push it a little and certainly felt it towards the end! The 2’ splits made me concentrate on hitting the R20 throughout

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Really great session Spider - definitely not the easiest one to sit down to but a great execution with your usual negative splitting 8) =D> Great improvements as ever Ian =D> I did shudder at the description of yesterday's session: "Row hard for 4' then harder for 4', 5 times" =; Seriously...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

This one kept me concentrating :-k

3 rolling sets of 4/3/2/1 min at 18/20/22/24

Nice though - the R24 gave a chance to work hard and faster before dropping back to R18 again

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Jon - I’m not really sure what I can offer other than my own experience When I rowed previously, I had a max HR of high 180’s, very similar to yourself I couldn’t (and wouldn’t) do low rate sessions. I just did the prescribed pace at my usual rate (26ish). I always did UT2 as a sub 140bpm session, w...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Great sessions all =D> Brave work incorporating intervals into a HM Claudius ^O^ Ian - huge improvement on that nasty 20" session ^O^ Spider - that's a cracking session given your recent health problems, and throwing in food poisoning for good measure  ^O^ Yesterday was a bit of a s**t s...

Re: May CTC: May the Phors be with You

I’m in the middle of a 30x30’ RowAlong training plan and after struggling yesterday felt like I’d do something different this morning. Didn’t want to blow up so started steady and felt I got the pace pretty well spot on. I’m sure there’s more in the tank, but let’s see how I feel later in the month!...

From an FM to a sprint session Ian! We’ll executed session =D>

Another 30’ today, this time at R18 with 5 power stokes at the end of each 5’ split
Easy-ish but feeling deceptively hard by the end

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Some great training on here over the last few days :D Really solid training Spider =D> and a couple of great PBS Ian at (almost) opposite ends of the scale ^O^ ^O^ Mixed bag for me over the weekend, but picked back up on the 30’ sessions yesterday with a 18/20/22/18/20/22 rated piece followed by tod...
