Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Did a 5k TT as my Pete Plan hard distance row. Previous best was 18:50.3 done on 3/31/14. Based on my recent PP intervals, 18:38 was a reasonable target. Not sure why, but instead of rounding up to 18:40 I decided to challenge myself a bit and shoot for 18:30. Managed to stay within a couple of tent...

Re: The Pete Plan

Thanks Alan...sounds good! Inspiration, encouragement and healthy competition are all benefits I have derived from this forum. Keeping up with the progress...struggles...suffering  of others has helped me immensely. Rowing is a pretty solitary activity so it's really nice to connect (albeit vi...

Re: The Pete Plan

Had a go at the 5 x 1500 today. Previous effort - 4/8/14 - average pace - 1:52.9

1:52.4
1:52.3
1:52.1
1:51.9
1:50.5

7500 - 1:51.8 - 30spm

Overall pleased with the effort and negative splits considering I haven't been doing a lot of interval work the last few weeks.

Re: The Pete Plan

Looks like everybody's working hard and improving...keep up the good work! I've been doing a lot of stroke/heart rate restricted workouts (20spm @ 70% HR) as well as a bit more weightlifting but I didn't want to stay away from interval work for too long so I decided to do another PP cycle. Did some ...

Wow Paul! I was only planning on congratulating you for the 10k effort but I scrolled up and saw your recent 2k performance as well. Sounds like you are in the groove. Excellent work! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Any one else notice an issue with the meter board? Looks like rows recorded on the 23rd were also entered on the 24th.

After tackling the CTC yesterday it was back to an endurance row. Return of cooler temps seems to make a big difference. Did this exact same row 2 days ago when it was much warmer and more humid.

Re: May CTC: 1min/2min/3min/1min/2min/3min - 9min rest

You all made this sound so darn enjoyable that I figured why not see for myself. I've been plodding along at 20spm and 140bpm a lot lately so this was a perfect opportunity to give the system a wake up call. HR hit 184 towards the end.   Almost missed the start on the second 2 min...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Good to see everyone reaping the rewards of hard work, dedication and training...keep it up! It's warmed up quite a bit here in Upstate NY and gotten a bit muggy as well...takes a bit of getting used to.   I've been doing a fair amount of reading and research on heart rate trainin...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Paul I think the temptation for all of us is to "strike while the iron is hot" which can (and often does) result in pushing yourself a bit too hard. The PP does seem to offer us some "protection from ourselves"

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

First off...congratulations to everybody on the superb efforts (and results)! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> I initially planned on a 5k TT but for some reason that seemed a bit daunting so instead decided on the "hour of power"...not sure that makes sense??? With quite a few longer rows in the books...

Re: Marathon Challenge

All this talk of marathons combined with the C2 Global Marathon Challenge inspired me to attempt my first HM. Having never spent more than an hour on the rower I decided to set a reasonable goal of 1:30:00. That pace (2:07.9) felt pretty easy so I decided to go a bit quicker (2:07) for the first hal...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

My 1000m (3:26.2) was the "softest" of all my PB's having not been formally attempted since 12/29/13...a long time when your rowing career spans just over 7 months. I decided to work it in to a reverse Pete Plan 4 x 1000 interval session. Fastest first and finish out with whatever was left...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

One of my goals this year is to bring my longer rows in line with the shorter ones ranking wise. My 500 - 2000 are up in the 80's while my 10k and hour are in the 60's. Up till now most of my steady distance Pete Plan rows have been 10k so today I tacked on another 500. Plan to gradually increase di...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Given that I had only one previous/formal try at the "hour of power" back on 3/15 my PB (14402 - 2:04.9) was not going to be hard to top. Still establishing some pacing guidelines for these longer rows so I was pretty conservative for the better part of it. Question for you veterans: What ...

Re: April CTC: 3 Peaks Challenge

Paul I did the CTC as a replacement for my 4 x 1000 Pete Plan session and didn't feel like I shortchanged myself. In fact I was in almost as much discomfort as I was at the end of my 2k PB. Being relatively new to things and not having a ton of "historical data" I wasn't completely sure h...

Good job Kellie! As someone who followed the PP Beginner I would recommend using that average as a starting point for the next session. Negative split a bit if you feel good and just make sure you go all out on the last rep. This system builds confidence as you know what you're capable of and will ...

Great time Dan, absolutely brilliant. Paul good point, what would you say how much time does a beginner needs to be a "good" rower? I know it's a quite general question, I'm interested in the experience of all the long time rowers, how long did you need for building up the technics, power...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

I started rowing 7 months ago today. Many years of "basement bodybuilding" allowed me to immediately pull some decent 500's but anything further and reality (aka lack of conditioning) quickly set in. Fortunately I discovered the Pete Plan and this site which both provided tons of informati...

Re: WELCOME to New Members

Hello Free Spirits, Last year at the age of 43 I found myself feeling a bit out-of-shape and felt a burning need to reverse that trend. I decided to start doing some Crossfit type exercises at home and through a bit of research discovered the Concept 2. The rest is history. My C2 rower has totally t...
