Rowlympic Challenge
There is a new C2 challenge available. July 23–30 The Concept2 Rowlympic Challenge coincides with the Olympic Games Regatta. To take part, you need to complete all eight events. You can do so on the RowErg, SkiErg or BikeErg, or on-water, but you must complete all the events on the same type of mach...

Re: Strength training(on and off the erg)
As much as I hate to let this thing beat me, I am going to concede defeat - I will have a go again when the weather is cooler(I had done 7 or 8 40km walks early on in the year with no issues), but I don't cope well with the heat - I have very wide feet and battle to find shoes that fit me comfortab...

Re: The Pete Plan etc
That CTC is proving a real thorn in your sine Iain! Spider - some great session as ever! And despite the heat too =D> =D> Given the name of this thread I thought I had better do a PP (not CTC, as Spider pointed out) session yesterday for a change. Chose 5x1500. Last time I did this I averaged 1:59.8...

July CTC - 5k/2k 7min rest, 1 at 20SPM
I decided the easiest way to do this mentally was to do the 5k (open) first and get it out of the way and then just hang on at r20 for the 2k. I think I got it right. Doing the 2k knowing the 5k was still to come would have been an open invite to "the voice". I decided on a pace of 5k-2 as...

Re: Injuries.....:(
Finally had my ultrasound scan today on my right shoulder. The good news is - no ligament damage. There's a little bit of bursitis but essentially the clever man with a cravat said it's a "frozen shoulder" and needs physiotherapy - but "will come back". That's great news Plummy....

Re: Injuries.....:(
Paul, I'm sure you already know this, but there is a very, very strong correlation between lower back pain and lack of flexibility in the hamstrings. You really do need to bite the bullet and start a very gentle stretching programme. It will hurt and you will definitely feel that you have no flexibi...

Some great, late efforts going in here.
I am just a couple of seconds off a move from boat 4 to boat 3. Very tempting, but I seem to have picked up a shoulder niggle which is far worse this evening after a gentle 30:00r20 session today, so I may be forced to leave things as they are.

Re: Projections in Meterboard
Question, why do 2 people have extra icons for boing forum followers for last year? I honestly don’t know. I keep thinking I have fixed this and then they appear again. There is an odd interaction between the definition of the “challenge” and the way the icons are generated that is difficult...

Re: July CTC - 5k/2k 7min rest, 1 at 20SPM
This sounds quite dreadful really. Agreed. I am torn between (1) Fast 5K to give myself a SB time and then hold on for the 2K at R20 or (2) 2kr20 first and then blast the 5k. (1) is efficient in terms of getting an SB on the board. (2) is probably going to give the best result for CTC. Of course, I...

The Pete Plan etc
Today was a "Top Tier" Rowalong 5K plan session. I nearly got what I deserved on this one, being very close to throwing up at the end. John is very clear when explaining the session that it's important to stay at 5k pace for the first half of the session and then to push hard for 4 interva...

Re: Lower back problems - what next?
Thanks folks. I forgot to mention one other suggestion by my acupuncturist - Tai Chi. Has anyone tried this? I have done Tai Chi Paul. While I enjoyed it immensely, and I can see it might help slightly with core through the need to balance and move slowly, I really don't see it helping a great deal...

Re: Lower back problems - what next?
Paul, It is always difficult, and possibly risky to advise others, especially coming from a position of general lack of knowledge of your options and of your condition. So, here goes... First of all, you have all of my sympathy. I know how much you enjoy rowing and to have that taken away ...

Hmmm - did my metres but not black dot for the Juneteenth challenge. I am signed up it says... Thanks for letting me know Plummy. The Meterboard only updates distances once an hour and challenges once every 3 hours (the last part is from memory). You're black circle is there now Plummy. To be hones...

Projections in Meterboard
I have made a change to the Meterboard as an experiment. The "Days Active" column was never particularly meaningful. It was really reporting "Days that the Meterboard has seen updates". In other words if you row every day, but only upload meters once a week then at the end of the...

Re: Technique Clinic
John, many, many thanks for such a thorough piece of feedback. Lots to work on to make those improvements and improve the quality of the stroke. I know this will all help, as I get more experienced I can feel the power leaking and I'm sure that the tips that you, Plummy and Spider have given me are ...

The Meterboard has been a bit over generous on the Juneteenth challenge by the looks of it. I’ll take a look.

Re: Technique Clinic
Thanks to Plummy and Spider for taking the time to give feedback. I think I am going to dismiss the r20 video. My view is I was overthinking the stroke for the video and that made the whole thing look mechanical. In a few months I will try again but just focus on rowing as I usually would at that ra...

The Pete Plan etc
I agree with Spider that too much time away from the "pain cave" is not a good idea. So a session of 2 x ratings ramps for me. 5/4/3/2/1min at 22/24/26/28/30 with the goal of negative splitting within each ramp (easy) and across the two sets (not so easy). I was surprised that this actuall...

I have been meaning to do this for ages. I would really appreciate any feedback on the YouTube videos of me rowing at r20 and at r32 at the gym today (my C2 doesn't squeak!). https://youtu.be/RRjkCvZ-ClE - r20 https://youtu.be/6yUUYS0VgXA - r32 My immediate observations are: I am hinging at the hips...

Well done spider. To dive in there without much TT work lately and to beat last year's so convincingly (in hot weather) is a great result.
