I am a cricket follower (a quite depressed one at the moment). I get interested in football once every two years and am amazed how quickly I lose interest in the championships when England get knocked out. Mind you, unlike the stereotypical Englishman I happily cheer on Scotland/Wales/N. Ireland in ...

At home in my damp cellar. Two TVs have exploded, C2 a little mouldy in places otherwise fine. Working on my better half to investing in tanking it and making a proper play room ;-)

I'd like to point out that I am MILES ahead in the "posts in the forum" stakes. I have set up some "ranks" in the forum. If you get to 50 posts it tells you off. Get to 100 and it sends you back to the ergo.

Other rank suggestions gratefully accepted.

Maybe next week. Oh god. Please don't. I can't take the pressure. On that note, your metres obviously don't count because they are "on water" metres (as previously mentioned ;-) ) When you do go off-shore with an ergo, do you get internet access or do you load all your times up in one chu...

How often do you run round that amazing point? Beautiful place apart from the port.

How far did you go in rugby? To be representative in NZ must be pretty tough!

Re: Handicaps

How many gym power monkeys have we seen who can't do 15 minutes on the rower? Yes! When I was a management consultant and posted all over Europe I prayed for ergos in the hotel gym. And loved sitting there ticking over at 2:05 for 30 minutes whilst the power monkey did 4 minutes at 2:10 and g...

There should be no time delay since they hit the database straight away. It could be that your internet service provider is caching the pages somehow. If the forum says your message is posted then it really is. How long it takes for your service provider to show you the page is anyone's guess!

Metronome/Control Freak

Not sure how to post this on ELM or even whether we could. I often do long (10km+) rows at heart rate of 130 and strokes per minute of 22. To keep myself focussed I have recently tried to get as many strokes in a row that are exactly 130/22 on the PM2+ readout. I count from the end of the stroke and...

Well done. I think 30 minutes is a horrid distance. Short enough to feel you can pull hard all the time, long enough to feel you can't!

Ahhhh - that makes sense. Well from an "I understand what he is trying to achieve" point of view.

Makes no sense from a "Oh my God, I could not do that!" point of view. He's a legend. He will deserve the holiday!

Thomas - I would like to see the boat race back at some stage. We cannot expect to exactly mimic "on water" conditions but it would be nice to do the distance. :) How about a "Classic boat race" (true distance, any way you like) and a "True Boat race" (time based, rati...

doing it in 2 weeks is quite an achievement. Have I missed WHY Paul is going for it in this manner? It is impressive to do in a month - why do it so fast - are you racing? I am up to 73,431m in 5:27:24.8 which is astronomical for me. Just doing it and posting on ELM will be enough for me.

Just did 14,207m for 60 minutes today. But soft for me too - not gone hard at that distance before. And there was a little more in the tank I think.

Re: Logo

Had another idea. As we have people from all over the world, how about a globe for a logo, with a spirit (ghost) gliding around the edge. We are free to join from anywhere after all. I like that idea. I don't like the idea of listing the countries where everyone is from - it's just asking for troub...

Yes, rowing machines are very much second class in gyms I find. No TV, not maintained properly (if at all). One of those oddities in life given they are so muc better for you than plodding along on a treadmill.

Re: Boat Race & 250k

I know Jonnie Prouse wanted to do the Boat race (he was asking me for the exact distance). He's injured for about 2 weeks, so how about putting it up again in August? OK. But I think it should be time based when it reappears since they never row the boat race on still water. Still think it should b...

Re: The penny drops

Strapless is not having your feet strapped in with the foot straps Ah haaaaaaa. Now I understand. We used to do that as an exercise back in the dark ages when I rowed on water. I do it on the ergo for a laugh sometimes but never for a serious row. It is very important for technique. As a physicist ...
