Re: WELCOME to New Members

Following on from William's note, please see the attached re rowing for children: http://www.fletchersportscience.co.uk/show_article.php?id=news4ac1f5ccce6bb This starts for 11 year olds. Re the speed strap, I E-mailed C2 UK and they sent me a free one. It reduced the drag to around 60. Downside is ...

Re: FS Sweat protection option

I think the bandana is usefull when it's cold or under a helmet; otherwise the tie style; both fits any size head. Once I'm done with a proposition I'll post here. Any graphic designers out there - have a go! How about blue tie / bandana and a combination of writing: "Free Spirits Rowing"...

Re: WELCOME to New Members

Iain I will have to work on recruiting my daughters. Not sure I will be able to convince any of them to do a 10K though! Maybe my oldest.... This was on a shorter challenge (250m, 500m, 750m, 500m, 250m 1 min rest between each). Finding the drive to complete a fast 10k is tough for me, I don'...

Nice 10k there. Hope the crew comes together for this last race and you don't strike any icebergs!

All the best

Re: WELCOME to New Members

Lady part is no problem, but lightweight lady not even on my best day... Just purt that in as I didn't want to suggest that it was the ladies who were holding us back. In practice even lightweight ladies usually occupy the lady seat rather than the lightweight one. The important point is that often...

Re: WELCOME to New Members

One 10K before the EOM I can do... it does it automatically count somewhere or do I have to sign up in another spot? The people get allocated according to time and category. Every boat has to have at least 1 woman and a different lightweight. Hence at present we have only 4 boats floated despite ha...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

With no post by Laurence, this feels like we are having the party without the host!

Only Laurences 30' and 1k look out of synch to me. But they are much better balanced than my PBs where my 1k, 2k & hour are much better than the rest.

Re: CTC for October

Paul's "Law" was merely a statement that if pace dropped off at 5S per doubling then the individuals strength and endurance are well balanced for a 2k. In practice, most people on the Forum have a lower "Paul's Constant", i.e. doubling the distance results in less than a 5S decre...

The way Bill is rowing, if you try want to keep up with him at the moment I think you will need to attach a rope and use water skis  . Still, good to have you back on board.

Steve, I am not sure that I fully agree with your interpretation of the PP. I have sent you a PM. I think Pete's own description and the many comments thrughout the PP thread say more than I can add here.

Re: Training for a half Marathon....

Wise words from those with much more experience thatn me above. I have had a fight with HR training myself. For at least 4 months my HR refused to stabilise at under 87% on even easy paces (2k+30S), I found limiting HR lead to significant parts of longer pieces at recovery pace of 2k+40S or so. With...

I'll take 2 (not sure about the pink, happy in competitions, but not quite sure of the reception at the gym!). Happy to pay the excess over cost so that the minimum reasonable order could be made up and I think that postage should be paid by recipients rather than borne by the "local supplier&q...

Well done the boat launchers. another lightweight and a woman and we have as many boats on the water as anyone. Great to see good performances and on behalf of the non-heavy weight men that the 10k was supposed to be favoured by when we chose it I will take up the challenge. 2 attempts so far, one was h/d at 2k. Re: The fall short of expectations workout thread

I try to settle for a lesser workout rather than just giving up. So an intended Fartlek 10k became 2 x 5k (otherwise I may not have lasted 2k!), failing that LSD recovery rows. So I am modifying or reordering my workouts rather than skipping them. It is a balancing act though as it may be that I def...

Re: L4s, etc...the Wolverine(sque) Plan

Emily, I found rowing a 1X seriously scarry. If you think rowing in an 8+ or 4+ gives you a lot to think about, in a 1X if you are slightly unsymmetrical (which as someone who rowed exclusively Stroke side I still am) then the boat lurches. My first outing degenerated into my sculls going along the ...

Re: Concept 2 Challenge series

It's funny, when I looked at 1246m, I thought "that's only 90m further than my PB", then I looked at the splits and thought "it always will be aswell" Its deceptive, I for one usually only think metres for 30' & hour, so 90m doesn't seem that much, 1.4Sand 0.8S/500m. But ove...
