Re: Nonathlon 2020

Awesome job Max. But so close to 900 points: do you reckon you should go again 😉? Oh no! You've given me a really terrible idea for next season that I just can't get out of my head... a minimum of 900 points for each distance!!! Today's 5k for the IRL was 18:10.5 @1.49.0 and is worth 912 points. It...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020

Well done Louise, a cracking PB =D> =D> =D> . After my last attempt I didn't try to trouble my PB but aimed to hold 1.49-1.50 pace. Pleased to report it worked although my stomach was slightly sore towards the end. Probably all the advanced stretching exercises* I've been doing over the past week :l...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020

Well done, it is always good to score over 900 in the Nonathlon =D>. I confess to having a go on Sunday wondering if I could trouble my PB. Not a chance and I HD'd after 3,500m .

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Thanks Felton. Today's challenge was the HM. I was aiming for 900 nonathlon points which is 1:22:22 @ 1:57.1. But couldn't hold 1:57 and slowly drifted. Still happy with a PB at 1:22:40.4 @1:57.5 which is an improvement of c15 seconds and worth 896 points.

Re: Nonathlon 2020

Decided to tackle the HM first on the basis that a) the 5k and 10k will be hard b) I should leave the 500m to last because the pain will be short and if I stress my leg muscles it's not a problem and c) I could treat the HM as a bit of a recovery row after yesterday. Surprise, surprise it started ok...

Re: Nonathlon 2020

Having set myself a post SRIC festive challenge of reaching 8,100 points I thought it was time for an update. Two PBs this week have put me in a decent position but I've only got 9 days left before I'm away. But which order do I do the remaining 4 events in to maximise my chances of success. Hmm... ...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Seeing Felton's awesome 60 minutes inspired me to have a go at improving my 15,550m @1:55.7. I was hoping to break 15,600 @1:55.3. Quickly settled into 1.55-1:56 pace which was comfortable (or rather a pace I thought I could keep up without dying). With 12 minutes to go I realised a sub 1:55 or c15,...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Since setting a PB for 4m in September's IRL I've been meaning to have a go at my 1k. To be fair my 1k is pretty soft at 1:39.8 pace. Given PBs of 1:32.3 for 500m and 1:42.5 for 2k in theory I should be around 1:37.5 pace. But practice is an entirely different matter! The plan was fast start, settle...

It certainly is, thank you. And Morten that must have been hugely frustrating. But at least you have Prauge to look forward to.

Also well done to James and Chris Newberry. James posted a great time in his 2k of 6.35.4. I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your day. I can't see a time for Morten so I'm not sure if he had to withdraw.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Another HR restricted 10k today. 39:26.3 @1:58.3, average heart rate 129. In watt terms that's 211 watts compared to last year's 2:03 which is 188 watts so a 12% increase. That seems a lot and not entirely sure what it means. But I'm guessing it means I'm fitter and should try some longer distance r...

Re: December ctc - 7 x 1 minute / 70“r

Lots of great early scores this month. I wonder if everyone is posting a result before Christmas party season! Part of my SRIC preparation was a horrible 6x1.5m with 1mr which I managed in 1:38.3. So applying Paul's Law would suggest a target of 1:35.8 but I really wasn't sure if that was doable. Th...

I'm sure Plummy will help keep you focused! Not sure if you keep a training diary but the Concept2 logbook "filter" button is great for comparing current to previous workouts. So you can see exactly how much you've improved.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

A nice heart rate restricted row today. 10k in 39:12.2 @ 1:57.6, average HR 133. In January I did a number of similar rows, typically 40mins @ 2:03, average HR 130. Looks like quite a difference. As my HR monitor was a Christmas present last year I'll soon be able to compare workouts and see how my ...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020

My first really hard middle distance for a while. I couldn't quite match Felton's great time but pretty pleased with 23:09.4 @1:49.5. Adjusted that equals 21:11.4. And because I can pro-rata down and use the 1:49.5 for the Nonathlon 6k that gives a handy 919 points :D.

Well that was a day of highs and lows! It was great seeing Guy and watching some utterly fantastic racing but my own performance was rather disappointing. I know I messed up my periodisation training but over the past 2 weeks I really thought I had got back on track. The aim was to try and trouble m...

Scottish Rowing Indoor Championships 2019

The Scottish Championships are this Saturday, 23rd November, in Motherwell. I'm in the 2k and Guy has entered the 500m, 1k and 2k which is an impressive challenge! The draw has been issued and in my 50-60 hwt category there are at least 4 sub 6:50 rowers so I'm not expecting to medal. A great result...
