Rehab and more rehab

For me, last season ended poorly. I was on track for a million metres but early In April was struck down with a knee problem. That seems to be easing now and I've tried a couple of rows which seem to have gone well (from the point of view of not causing a reaction in my knee) and so there is hope fo...

Re: Millionaires club-Season

My congrats to all who have hit the magic mark so far this season.

It was my intention to join you and at the end of March with around 100k to go, I was confident.

My right knee however was clearly not and and despite my best efforts at rehab etc, it is just not going to happen.

Re: 4 seasons rowing....

That's interesting Pete. My log starts May 2004. Since then the month with the most mtrs is September (925k) followed fairly closely by July (844k), June (699k) and then others. Least popular month is February (275k) and April (388k) I have 85 months in the above period with no metres at all! In act...

Hiya Jon.

I use Strava for recording cycle rides.

Would joining for rowing create a bit of mess?

Re: Anniversary row

I feel I am in exalted company. Certainly I was never that quick and 16 years on the clock since that first record means that I'm not getting close to any lifetime bests. However, I need 3m (exactly) to get to 10m before my official retirement day (25th November 2022) so I need 4,636 a day - every d...

And with 10,631 m today that is SEVEN MILLION on the nose.

(And unofficial world record for longest time between 6m and 7m. About 6 years.)

Re: Anniversary row

Interesting. The first recorded log entry I can find is Star Wars day in 2004. That was 5,000 in 21:44.2. I can safely say that I would not be able to match that today. If I broke 22:30 I'd be overjoyed. I then got to wondering why that distance/time is the first entry on my log. It seems to suggest...

Re: Advice please - Tabata style

Thank you - lots of food for thought. My objective is to first keep motivated and to do that I need a target that is more than metres on the board. Having done FM/HM this season I've decided that my 30 minute distance is in need of improvement. My thought therefore is that 2 or 3 sessions a week at ...

Advice please - Tabata style

For a number of reasons too dull to write about, I'm looking to move away from long steady pieces for a while in an attempt to improve my personal stats at shorter distances. I'm therefore thinking that in order to build towards say a 30 minute piece, I should be doing Tabata style training. In my h...

Re: Virtual Team Challenge

I agree that the 50/100/200 bandings worked for me to do more than I expected. Certainly when I saw a projected distance within spitting distance of 100K I was motivated to go over that mark. Obviously once I was past it, going to the next predicted mark became impossible having emptied the tanks th...

Jon, that looks like a rowing version of Zwift?

I have tried Zwift on the bike and found it to be a frustrating experience perhaps due to my inability to manage the technology.

Re: The long road back

Inspiring Wotjek. Sounds like either a very complicated life plan wonderfully executed or a very determined man able to cope with whatever comes your way. All the indications are there that the rowing goals will crumble before such spirit. Having done my marathon - rested and lost condition - restar...

What are you doing post lockdown?

Since I've returned to rowing and feel able to contribute to the threads again, I've been in contact with some of the people I first met (for real) via the club. More than one suggestion has been made for a real meet up once we are permitted. For a number of reasons (and not just because we used to ...

The mod E is the higher off the ground version but is expensive.

Perhaps an earlier model and somebody who can put blocks under it to raise the seat?

Re: The long road back

Good advice Iain.

My more immediate goals are more modest, just metres on the board.

I need around 100k a month to do 1m this season.

I need just less than 200k to get to seven million lifetime.

For now though I'll settle for my knees to stop aching!

Thank you. Time to think about all those other targets I've missed over the years, including: More than 14k in an hour. Sub 40 minute 10k Sub 20 minute 5k Realistically any thresholds at the shorter distances are now beyond me. I will try to post a "rank" at each relevant distance/time thi...

Re: Back in the Water

It is incredible how our understanding of the body and its complex mechanisms has advanced and treatments come out of that. My Dad (coming up 90) has AF and is on a cocktail of blood thinners and the like. They did a "reset" which worked for a while but may need to do again tho. They will ...

For a number of boring reasons I went for the full marathon today.

The last 1500 or so was hell but I finished in 3:21:57.

Happy with that.

That is sobering Paul. I've always thought of you as a very fit and strong man with power and times on the rower that are way beyond my reach and therefore something that I can aspire to but probably never reach. I've always tried to get and stay fit and have spent more hours than I care to count on...
