Re: 2012 Weight Loss Thread

Been two weeks since last weight in, and just .5KG lost, a slow start, but I'm calling it good, as a week of that was spent traveling out to CES in Las Vegas, where, I walked into my friends house and met my nemesis http://images.sodahead.com/polls/000989615/mmpeanut52ouncebagbig_xlarge.jpeg All wil...

Re: 2012 Weight Loss Thread

I'm traveling this week, which makes it hard (no rower, no treadmill, restaurants galore). Very true about the way one lives. I gained back when I slacked and then sympathy ate, with our last pregnancy. I dont drink, so I can' cut alcohol, but, I'm trying to cut back on the sweets which are my nemes...

Re: 2012 Weight Loss Thread

So glad to be back. Did my first short row (slow 2K, 500 cool down) last night. Felt so good! Glad to see you guys are still here!

Re: 2012 Weight Loss Thread

Just got my rower back, after having loaned it to my brother, who sadly, used it mostly as a coat rack, I'm back with the Free Spirits. Unfortunately, there is more of me than there used to, so I'm in for the weight loss thread. 02/01/12___91.1___Start____Start____Unknown-But not a good number, I'm ...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

New 30' PB for me this afty. :D 7252m. Up by 183mts. Helped by the new PM3 that I now have fitted. The 'projected mts' section helps with knowing where I am with pacing. Four weeks now till I go for a new 2K. Great Job Gary! I can't imagine rowing without all the info my PM gives me so I ...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

I've been bugging John to tackle a 6K since it's my next weakest time and I wanted something good to chase down, but he wouldn't go for it, so I finally went for it today. It was previously a 25:12 (2:06) pace, which is slower than even my 10K from a while ago. I set a pace boat of 2:02 and followed...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Great Job Jane!!! 10K Is a rough distance. No shame in motivating yourself to persevere! =D> =D>

@ Christine, yes, John will probably be over, but not as often, but that's OK. I'll get back to my longer distances since I've practically fallen off the meter board since Dec.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Thanks Mat I'm sure I'll get there. Against my better wisdom, I've decided to try to work up to a sub 7 2K at some point this year. I was hoping the 1K would be on pace, but not yet. On a happy note, on updating my sig, I just noticed that I've beat Iain on the 500 by a hair. :D Time to revisit that...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Great Job everyone! I've been away from rowing for a bit due to too much snow to want to venture out. Last night I took a stab at my 1K time. Previous best was 3:40. I did 3 runs, again alternating with my brother. Third round was the best at 3:33.4. I was hoping for under 3:30, but just wasn't able...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Great Job Mat and badocter! Another round of sibling rivalry today we tried the 500M My best was 143.2. John hasn't really tried it. He pulled in at 1:40.2 which was unacceptable so I put in a 1:36.9. Like Iain described earlier, by the end vision was fading and it took about 10 minutes to cool down...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Re: Shorts: Yeah found that out last night. Seemed like a good idea though. Re: Shoes: Definitly going to look for something like that, as the heel is blistered really bad today. Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

I read somewhere a long time ago that by not using straps it would help improve technique. At that time I was rowing at a much higher spm and going strapless helped me keep the same pace, but at a lower spm. It really helped improve my form. Now I usually row strapless unless it's a short/fast piece...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Sibling Rivalry stikes again. Yesterday John rowed his 2nd HM. He did it without checking my PB time, but ended up just seconds short of passing me. Not wanting to make it easy on him, I did my first HM since last November. Previous best was 1:33:39.8. I've had a goal for a while to get under 1:30 s...

Re: The Pete Plan

On my very extended Pete Plan John and I took turns on the 4 * 2K. I don't have the breakdown of times since the rower is at his house, but our average was 1:58.7 and the last session John set a new PB for himself (7:36.5 down from a 7:37.2 just Saturday) and of course since I was going 2nd I had to...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

I got to re try my 30 minute today. It's been bugging me all week since the last attempt. (PB wasn't enough, have to beat my brother!) Today I made 7485M 2:00.2. Soo close to making 2 Minutes even. But good enough to top John by 129 Meters. He's starting practicing his 2K to try to pass me on that n...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Nice work Christine! That's a lot of time to trim off that piece. ^O^ I'm with Den-J though. Looking for you to break that 8 minute mark soon! :D

The only thing my brother logs right now is calories burned vs consumed! He even rows with it set to display calories.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

My brother still has my rower, so when I get to use it, I don't get home till too late to post lately. Last Saturday he beat my 30 minute time. (It was my wort time anyway) so I had to try to take back the lead. I rowed 7,156m. John's was something like 7346 though. I beat my previous distance by a ...

Re: The Pete Plan

Did the 5 * 1500 today. Last and only previous time I averaged 2:04.4 Today: 2:00.9 2:00.6 2:00.2 1:59.9 1:58.7 (Approx, my rower resides at my brothers while he does a weight loss competition and I didn't write it down) Avg: 2:00.1 Felt pretty good after such a long break, really hurt by the end as...

Re: The Pete Plan

Back finally from 3 weeks away in Utah. While I was gone, my brother stole the rower to use at his house so I went there to resume rowing. We're a little competitive, so we set out to do the 8* 500, and rowed during each others breaks. Suffice it to say, that we kept trying to one up each other and ...

Re: The Pete Plan

I'm still out west, so it's not quite as late here. :-) We're coming back a week later than expected, so browsing the forum is the closest I can get to rowing for another week. I'm glad the oft mentioned EF warmup finally came up. I'd been meaning to ask about if for a while. I'm browsing the fletch...

Re: The Pete Plan

What is the transition from warm up to the actual piece, do you switch right to what you are rowing, or sit/stretch for a minute or two first?

I never said I could type. Signature fixed.

Gary you can match or beat that time. I think the key is being able to do the last 500 without oxygen! :D

Mat, Exceptional times! Keep up the great work.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Doc I never realized till yesterday just how long 500m is! Today, as it's my very last chance to row this year due to travel. (Yeah living out of a suitcase!) I tackled the 2K. A few weeks ago, I broke under 8 minutes with a 7:54.4, and it about killed me. Today I did 7:24.1! 30 seconds shaved off! ...
