Re: I am back, and just in time for new season

Decided to use this as a small training diary - should push Brendan on also Yesterday - Boat club - Got there too late (need to sort something out to try and leave work early Tue+Thu) 30 mins --- lasted 10 mins --- about 1:52 pace --- mental rather then physical weakness issues 1k - 3:14.1 - this is...

Re: I am back, and just in time for new season

Hello all - well done Brendan for starting up again As Brendan says a bit snowed under time wise Excercise wise Got the flu before xmas, after xmas had a very severe headache every time I rowed (I'm guessing flu related) . When I was fully recovered motivation took a huge hit as I was pulling splits...

Re: January CTC - 30' unrestricted

I know kingy  Didn't go to a doctor Mikkel, possibly should have but I doubt a GP (general doctor) could do anything about it . So I'd need to go to a specialist of one sort or another, and it would get very expensive very quick (I think) . Also I'd probably be waiting a month or 2 to see the ...

Re: January CTC - 30' unrestricted

Thanks lads Not sure exactly what happened to me . I had the flu from about 10th Dec to Jan 5th ish . I was able to row on the 22nd Dec . But then went to Sligo (Parents/Brendans home) and started getting bad headaches after 500m on an erg . This continued well into Jan including last week and I sti...

Re: January CTC - 30' unrestricted

Training recently could charitably be called soft and uncharitably &%$#?|@! . Today was my first row over a slow 2,264 since a 8,469 30min on the 22 Dec . Today rowed a 8,144 on Rowpro :? . I reckon approx 80-90% effort I'll go again tomorrow, maybe wednsday again . Fridays my last chance and I ...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

So now the question is: "What shall I do at the Danish Indoor Rowing Championship in 3 weeks?" Shall I try the same race plan or try for a higher spm, i.e. 33-35 :?:  :?: Congrats Erik . Great row . Try the higher stroke rate in training, if you have any session's close to 2K pace, ...

gunslinger_'s favorite distance.... Muahahahahahah! Top row Jeff, I'm going to have a very hard time competing with your current 8721 and later rows 8-[, but I'll try [-o< . Flu before xmas and limited training over holidays mean I've had over a month without any quality rows . Currently a few seco...

Re: Zach goes sub 6

For anyone who didn't read Zach's blog - here's what he did after his first sub 6 2K  After that I did a 60 minute recovery erg piece with my feet out reliving the 2k and then a quick bike to get the ache out of my legs. Going to take a nap, and then tonight an easy 10k and a 60 minute run . T...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Had the proper flu during the week, hit me hard, got deep into my lungs . Worst dose I've had for 5-10 yrs . Bloodly grim, I had 2 VERY bad day's (Wed/Thu last week) where I felt incredibly bad, how the hell do people with serious illnesses that goes on for months and years deal with it . Still coug...

Re: Weekly Weigh In

2 weeks in this entry . I'm currently recovering from a flu, worst sickness I've had for 10 years . Very limited training as a result . Hit 234 (16st 10lbs) during the week as I found solid food hard to eat . A bit of a loss of fitness weight in there also  . As we're getting into xmas I've no ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Congrats Erik, strong row .
Bad luck on the first 1,000m, but probably better (for your overall time) to have gone a little too slow rather then a little too fast at the start (and have a fly and die) .

My tra... John, sorry to hear that others are suffering more than me. I hope that it gets better soon. I wouldn't call 3S outside PB pace slow, do you really normally find these easy? I would feel the strain after 2k at an equivalent pace for me. I think the consensus is that the rows should be rea...

Re: Will a throat infection effect performance?

My training thru it Strategy is sort of going back to bite me - maybe . My chest cough has got a lot worse (mainly due to a very late night on Sun/Mon night I think) . Got a related headache from the coughing . Feel very poorly at the moment . I don't know if I would have got this worse chest infect...

Re: Advice on the HM and FM ?

What the lads say above ++ Make sure you have enough liquids for the FM, I think I drank something like 5 litres on mine, drinking every 4K ~ 15mins . For the HM I used to drink about 500ml to 1 liter . Also the HM and FM are VERY VERY different beasts . You will HAVE to row at least one 30k / 2 hou...

Northen Irish Indoors

Myself and Rob went to the first NIIRC in Belfast, and Gaetano, Helen, Marie, Anne and Graeme from City of Derry boat club went also . This was a weight/age adjusted race using - http://www.concept2.co.uk/racing/correction.php VERY small event, but good fun . I got the silver in my race of 3 people ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

This is the last row before the Northern Irish IRC, so a bit pissed off with myself, I'm not taking the NIIRC too seriously (as it's weight/age adjusted) but I still want to row a respectable 2K . Weight / age adjusted, that is new to me. Why didn't anyboy tell me??? Good luck anyway John. Be glad ...

Re: Will a throat infection effect performance?

I tend to train through mild bugs (but then they frequently develop into heavier dose's ) . For just a mild throat infection I wouldn't expect much of a drop-off in pace, I've PB'ed with mild throat/nose infections . Certainly less then a seconds pace . I had a 6K yesterday with a mildly runni...
