Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

At that rate, there is absolutely nowhere to hide in terms of technique Unfortunately there are other errors that creep in... My self appraisal as a rank amateur takes that well and truly into account Iain, I can assure you... I wasn’t for a moment suggesting that rowing at a slower rate aut...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Inspired by all the advice to Paul V re slowing the rating, I have been trying to get my rate down to 20 in an effort to correct my technique. At the same time I have been creeping the damper up to get to my preferred df levels so that I can build my strength back up. Today I had a minor breakthroug...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)

Being quite keen on Van Morrison's music, I was really looking forward to his appearance at the IOW festival in 2018. However, it was , with the possible exception of Jeremy Corbyn at Glastonbury, the worst live performance I have ever seen - he really looked like he would have rather been anywhere ...

Re: Statins

I've been on statins for over 8 years now after2 blood clots were found - I have never experienced any side -effects from the medication. Although I had a recent cardiac arrest, the subsequent angiogram came up clear i.e. no congestive heart disease so the statins have obviously helped keep the wido...

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

While it is very early in the season and SB's don't mean an awful lot, I am pleased to have improved my 30 min by nearly 400m from 5 days ago. I have started increasing the DF towards the levels where I am most comfortable and my abysmal efforts at low DF have made it glaringly obvious that my techn...

Re: May ctc - 1‘, standing start

What Ron and Paul V describe happens to me as well. I can feel it on the erg and see it the C2 workout graph. After a few seconds I dip a little and after c45 second I start falling off a cliff. The first one is after a fast start when I'm adjusting to target/race pace so that makes sense. But the ...

Re: The Pete Plan

Paul, my honest opinion would be to stick with 30 min, 10k and hr rows for 12 weeks. I know its boring on paper, but its a massive boost to cardio and base fitness. Really helped me get back in to it. Totally agree with Steve here, Paul - that approach has always worked for me, and you can just use...

Personally I never had that idea, Peter. Just good team intentions from your side I believe. Same here. I was just really pleased you had offered Peter. No sense of mutiny, just a willingness to step up for the team. Same here too, Peter - never for a moment did I think your intentions were anythin...

With that in mind I would very much like to carry on being captain if there are no serious objections, so I will be logging in more often and I will let you all know that I have the new machine by mysteriously reappearing on the meter board. That gets my vote Stan. Thanks for offering to keep going...

I think that this film is going to be difficult for people to recognise, so I've going to provide some clues and some more dialogue. Re: do you want a new captain

This is an interesting discussion. On one hand there are a few times where I would have expected a Captain to be more visible. However, on the other hand having a leader that takes their duties lightly is very much in the ethos of Free Spirits. It's part of who we are and I think it's important not...

Re: May ctc - 1‘, standing start

Question team - Does "Standing Start" mean the flywheel has to be still, or can it be pre-spun, handle down, then start? My first attempt was with a still flywheel, and it was definitely noticeable spinning it up. Thanks, and sorry for the dumbish question. I think the flywheel has to be stationary...

Re: May ctc - 1‘, standing start

Had my first go at this today and managed 295m. I said in another thread that I would be struggling to get within 15% of my PB for 1 minute and that's exactly what I did. Well almost exactly - 85% of 347m is 294.95m. Paul V Better than my first attempt - 260m which is 70.84% of my PB. I have been r...

Having not really bothered about any times for several years this year may be different ... Last year I somehow managed to complete a sub 7 2k again (not sure how and pretty sure I couldn't now), so this year there will be some effort to regain more overall fitness. Never having done "marathon fort...
