Re: Back in the fold
Are there any workouts for a mid 60's, overweight, short man who has modest ambitions? I'm anticipating more efforts on the C2 over the autumn and winter but have set few targets. I'd like to do a "regular" 10k, 3 or 4 times a week and hope to get that down to perhaps sub 43 minutes. I'd l...

Thinking on this and perhaps we need to come up with a list of questions?

Re: The Mental Funk
Some days you can and some days you can't. If we know which was which, we could all do better. I'll sometimes build to a piece (nowhere near your time by the way) and all day be thinking on it before hitting the old steel stallion in the early evening (my favoured start time) - and then find that I'...

What to do in Paros?
Going to a wedding there in early Sep.
Any suggestions for the days outside the wedding on/near Paros.
(Never been to Greece or its islands so clueless as to the vibe).

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Paul.
I see you are in Ryde, IOW.
I'm planning a round the island cycle trip with my wife for late September. We've done it clockwise so will be going anti clock from Cowes or perhaps Yarmouth.
I'll let you know when we're on our way and you can put the kettle on.

Re: What I miss about lockdown
In the first lock down, my wife and I would cycle the largely empty roads around our house. Whilst we never went too far away, we could easily do 20/25 miles in late pm/early evening. Working at home now feels more like cheating so I'm less inclined to stop at 4pm for a cycle. (Ridiculous as it's my...

Member of the month?
As part of a process of re-engaging and looking to bring others into using the forum a little more often, I've been thinking about challenges etc. I've posted an idea about creating internal teams for quarterly competition - see New Life. I've been wondering about profiling one (or more) members eac...

Re: Back in the fold
Agreed - I've never tried the apple workouts but a buzzer every 90 seconds over an hour was useful. I also had a list of faults pinned up next to my rower and as each alarm went, I'd work down that list. Aside from giving me a technique that a professional coach described as "adequate - for the...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)
Excited to have secured tickets to Christine and the Queens in Sept. I saw her TV debut in the UK with a song called "Tilted" and have been hooked ever since. My local hairdresser was "proudly" displaying posters for an event which included Herman's Hermits, The Tremoloes, etc ju...

Re: Back in the fold
I'm never going to be a sub 7 2k rower so the following may be totally irrelevant. When I first started rowing, I managed to collect a full set of bad habits. Too close to the gate at the catch; hunching over; starting the arm pull too early; shuffling the seat toward the gate instead of full leg ex...

Welcome back.
Like you I'm rowing to lose some weight and get a little fitter.
Unlike you a 2k in under 8 minutes is unlikely.
Keep the faith.,

Re: New life
Thanks all for the above. I'm at work so just a quick acknowledgement for now. The original idea for the inter team event was to allocate all those who have posted some distance this season to be placed into a team - without exception. Some who post rows but do not visit the forum etc will therefore...

Re: Million Metre Club(swim)
Good stuff Paul. Back in 2003/04 when in rehab for (yet another) knee operation, I used to go to the local club to swim pretty much every weekday. It was 7 minutes from desk to the water! I went with a friend and we would pace by the one in front moving aside if his feet were touched by the one behi...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)
Some good bands there Paul. We were in the US recently and saw The Head and the Heart and The Paper Kites on the same bill. Bear's Den were also meant to be there but cried off. I'm with you on seeing old bands. I did go and see the Rolling Stones in 1995 (Wembley Voodoo Lounge tour) and that was gr...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)
It's a real shame about Kasabian. They have lost Tom Meighan (for understandable reasons) as lead singer and Serge just doesn't have the power, range or attitude. In my view they should try and find a new lead singer. I once tried to see the Beautiful South but the gig was cancelled due to health pr...

Re: New life
Part of the debate here is about "What is the point or purpose of the club?" It was decided - or at least mutually accepted - that there would be no minimum distance or time requirements for members wishing to join. Equally we agreed/accepted that whilst we would encourage each other to pa...

Re: New life
You are correct Plummy that in the version I sketched it was very much about putting more metres on the board. It does however reward those who are starting from a low base (like me) over those who put out 10k/15k a day. My theory is that those who have fewer metres need more encouragement and incen...

Please forgive the presumption below and apologies in advance if this offends. I've not been a regular rower in recent years and as I tend to post only when I have some metres to offer, not a regular poster either. I have however been discussing various issues outside the forum with present and form...

New bands to listen to
Not one for that 35+ SPM final sprint to the line.
More for relaxing on a warm evening, wine in hand.
The Darkling Air.
Northern Ireland based duo with a lot of piano and she has the most wonderful voice.
Also
Bit more lively - Lake Street Dive.

Re: Rehab and more rehab
Did my first 5k of the season at the weekend and although slow, no obvious consequences for my knee.
Big appointment with the surgeon this afternoon who will let me know whether he thinks an op (hopefully minor) is needed.

Re: Rehab and more rehab
Thanks guys, appreciate the support. The issue is the right knee which has had two ACL revisions to date and as a consequence there are bits of bone and whatever floating around. The fact that I made it worse by walking the dogs, mowing the lawn and then trying to cycle when it was already saying &q...
