Re: Rowlympic Challenge

I saw this late, but fortunately had a 10k and 10 min already within the period, so managed to squeeze out the other 6 today.
The site recognised my entries straight away and I could get the certificate immediately, so maybe they'd sorted the problems you early birds had.

Re: July CTC - 5k/2k 7min rest, 1 at 20SPM

I confess I'd been avoiding this one. Have had a mediocre month with large gaps in my rowing and my motivation often beaten by the hot weather and sweaty conditions. And then I read this thread, and decided I needed to just get on and do it. (and for reasons, I also needed to do a load of the pieces...

Re: May ctc - 200 seconds, standing start

Having had a quick look, this is a 'how much distance you can do in a set time' challenge. So you just enter a distance figure. I think the 'pace' confusion is coming from the fact that the pace column on the CTC site is showing the pace as if the distance was done for 3 mins, and not the actual 3:2...

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

Managed a decent improvement on my HM today (Recent Best (RB) for 5 years), and first proper time for the new 2021-22 Season. 1:22:50.0 (1:57.8) AvR 27 Target was 1:59.0 Split (as previous one had been 1:59.1), with a stretch target at 1:23:30. Felt good initially and was making extra time at the st...

Re: Rowing Apps - What's Hot and what's not

Thanks Claudius - that's very helpful. It seems very hard to get hold of the iPhone variant of the cable, so I seem to be stuck between updating my PM4 or sticking with it and getting a cheap android tablet (and lead) JUST for the rower. Suspect the first makes most sense... What are the benefits of...

The one before, I finally managed to put together a reasonable 5k, having had a bit of a form dip in the last week (probably hayfever impact) which had ended a good run of SBs....

Re: peak force, avg force, DF, stroke rate, cardiac adaption and the role of muscle fiber types

Thanks, Claudius. Very much appreciated. I've posted a topic on the main forum to collate latest advice on Apps and training aids - would be great if you can summarise your extensive wisdom there, too. (I know it should really be on this forum, but people are more likely to see it on the main forum,...

Re: Rowing Apps - What's Hot and what's not

I'll kick off, although my App usage is a bit archaic. I have a PM4 on my Model C which I'm using for my rowing at the moment. I'm not recording anything more than screen shots of the PM after the sessions (interval data; yes, I'm aware of the inaccuracies of the Av Rate and HR) I'm using a Polar HR...

Rowing Apps - What's Hot and what's not

Been quite a while since I had time to investigate the various rowing related Apps in detail, so I thought I'd appeal to the greater experience and wisdom of this group, to answer the question: At start of the 2021-22 Season, which Apps do you rate and why? (Doesn't have to be restricted to SmartPho...

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard

Three completely new entries this month, welcome Ingrid, Mike and Stephen. Hi - thanks for the welcome, although I'm not quite a 'new' member, really. It might be hard to get it to work on the spreadsheet, but I did also do some CTCs waaaay back when FS first started (under Mike Channin). I will be...

Re: peak force, avg force, DF, stroke rate, cardiac adaption and the role of muscle fiber types

Hi Claudius - fascinating article - let me absorb, and then it will be worth catching up. I'm just coming back into training properly.. I guess one quick question is which App(s) do you all use, what do you get from them, and how do you rate them? (It's all changed/moved on a lot since I last looked...

Massive congratulations to Paul Victory for already scoring more points than I'll get this season. Brilliant to see you on form and flying high, Paul!

I will be targeting all your times, although the scores you get for them are well beyond me.

Re: April CTC: 3 Peaks Challenge

Hahaha. Well done, Thomas. I can explain my relatively poor time - It was done as the first 3400ish of a C2C 16:19 as I'm targeting that more than the CTCs (which seem to have got a bit obscure lately, IMHO, although I guess interesting from a strategic perspective, if difficult for those with older...

Re: October 2013 - celebrating the life of Gaye McOnie

I did a 3861m for Gaye on Friday (as I don't have access to the gym on Saturday) as part of a slow (aggregated) HM, and dedicate the whole session to her.

Love the photo of you all together sitting on the rowing machine. My thoughts are with you.
