Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Thanks Mike :fswink:

Credit where it is due :fswink: ^O^

It's fair to say that these all coincided with the focusing on the challenge at hand in that I've been more determinedly pushing on the marathon plan, but alongside that I invested in a strength training app which has led to a little ...

Re: Concept2 Articles on Damper and Drag Settings

I'm pretty sure my erg 'technique' has ruined my OTW stroke by now, should I ever be lucky enough to get back into a racing boat again...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Deep respect to anyone who can do distance on the SkiErg. I had a few goes about 8 years back and found it pretty tricky to get the technique for, although I could do passable short distances (like 1k) in semi-mediocre times.

My daily HM was at 2:07 pace today. Went pretty well, considering the ...

Interestingly, I just passed 26 mm officially. (I say that because I had a couple of periods where I didn't log everything, so I suspect I'm probably 1-3 mm further in reality)
Suspect Strider is nearing the 27mm now!

Re: Concept2 Articles on Damper and Drag Settings

For me, I like to 'stand' on the footplate during the drive phase of the stroke, and feel that squeeze/surge as you accelerate the flywheel. For this, it makes sense to have a bit more drag, so that the flywheel slows down, so you have something to push against and can accelerate it again.

If I ...

Re: Virtual Team Challenge 2025

There are now 5 teams covered by less than 1 million meters spread. Unfortunately, we're the last of those 5 at the moment, although with a massive gap to the next team back.

So, channel your inner-Strider, and help us to chase down those ahead!!!

I have been inspired by you all. Maybe the inspiration will last for more than a couple of rows!

I just did my first row in over 11 years!

That has made my day - welcome back Peter!!!!!
Also really pleased to see you're up and running, Stan.

Re: Concept2 Articles on Damper and Drag Settings

So I tried one of the gentle sessions at a (slightly) lower drag to see what it felt like. It was only one Damper setting (156 vs usual 170).
It did feel very slightly lighter, but not too much different.
Afterwards I had a bit of soreness in the arms (probably from 'whipping in the finish' a bit ...

So guys, what have you learned, and what are you still working on (and maybe could get some help from your supporting spirits)?

I'm interested in how you are going to keep fuelled for something like this, as it is way outside my experience, and the tricks you get away with on shorter stuff just ...

I've just noticed that you're clocking PB's Ian - many congratulations there - long time since I managed a true PB!

Thanks Mike - there's a few side effects to the extra training distance which I wasn't expecting certainly (though as Iain has pointed out I'm covering a reasonable proportion ...

OMG - All this talk of Ultra distances is making me feel inadequate while *only* doing a HM a day...
Bizarrely, I'm currently finding the slower 2:20 pace ones mentally tougher than the faster ones, although I am making steady if not spectacular gains on each...

Welcome back! I have great memories of our charity marathon session back in 2006. Do you ever hear from Mr. Simms? I think he's still posting meters on the board...

Get the rower out and go row a gentle 5k - don't even look at the pace (did I say that??)- just get the motion back into your muscle ...

Hahaha. Someone has a signature that says something like 'I used to be a lot faster' (only better expressed). I think we all suffer that one... I do have an age adjustment mechanism somewhere which helps a bit.

I have been passed on the meterboard by a fast moving Strider.

Off my my daily HM now, but even after that, I'm still going be left coughing in the dust of his ...
