Re: January ctc - 6x250m / 1‘r / 20spm / slowest to count

Having not on the erg since end October when I did that month's CTC, I decided to give this month's challenge a go. After all, how hard could it be to do 250m @ 22SPM? After struggling through my first two intervals, I decided to stop and assess how I was doing. To my chagrin, I found I had averaged ...

Re: Name that tune

That didn't help much I gather. Nowadays the future of the world is quite uncertain. In this song time left on the planet is very specifically limited. It's from the early 70's. Earth hasn't died in the announced time-frame. I posted my previous reply before I read your last post. We’ve clearly a ...

Re: Name that tune

Interesting lyrics. I didn’t recognise them, so I decided to Google the song. I’d never heard the song before, nor was I even aware of its existence. It was never released as a single, so I think only fans of the artist will know the song. One thing that struck me about the song is the fact that the ...

I was sent this today by a friend who is aware of my past relationship with the metal mistress. There’s hope for us all.

Re: The Boys in the Boat

Just go and see for yourself :-) My rowing club has organised a private screening next Saturday, and I can't make it #-o I’m planning to. I was just looking for feedback from anyone who’s seen it. I’ll definitely go, but I don’t want to inflict it on the lovely Jennifer if it sounds like she wouldn’ ...

The Boys in the Boat

I read the book around ten years ago and loved it. I thought it was the best sports book I had ever read.

The film is now in the cinema and I’m hearing mixed reviews. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been to see it.

Re: Name that tune

Ian, I do not think more clues will help me. This may be one of those song where, after you tell us the title and the artist, I will have to ask "which is the title and which is the artist?". I’m inclined to agree with Peter on this one. I decided to google the lyrics and I’d never heard of t ...

Re: Name that tune

I'm not doing very well with my song choices. Here's the next few lines.

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly-born tags

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint

Hi Paul same here, I actually got my good wife Chris to Erg the 200m that’s a first by the way then tried to enroll her into c2 and free spirits failed on both so finished up using my eldest daughters CTC account. This is a bit unacceptable but hey at least it’s a boat floated and it may even enc ...

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint

My wife Jennifer did the monthly challenge today, but can't enter her time as she cannot remember her password. Is there a password reset option, or will she have to register as a new member? I tried entering her as a new member, with no luck, so I've sent a pm to Dougie. Hopefully, I'll be able to ...

Actually recognised that one - being a big Billy Joel fan. Saw him play in Croke Park many moons ago and Piano Man is one of my go to karaoke songs.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint

Did my first CTC in quite a while today. Unable to post my time for some reason, but will try again over the weekend after I get back home from Portugal. For the record, I managed 39.5 seconds. I’ll also ask the lovely Jennifer to post a time next week. I know we’re always short of Fs to complete boa ...

Pretty sure that's Candle in the Wind - and yes, in retrospect, it should have been picked up straight away Sorry plummy. I somehow missed seeing your post. Re: Name that tune

I think you’re right, Wolfie. The name of the song is Freed from Desire by Gala. The first part of the chorus (before the na na na bit) goes “ Freed from desire, mind and senses purified” repeated a few times. The Ryder Cup lads were singing “Europe’s on fire, USA is terrified”. Variations on this th ...

Re: Name that tune

OK, final chance before I admit defeat. The opening lines of the song are as follows: My love has got no money, he's got his strong beliefs My love has got no power, he's got his strong beliefs My love has got no fame, he's got his strong beliefs My love has got no money, he's got his strong beliefs
