Title of an album, but the track didn't appear on the same album! ;-) hey hey hey hey, it was the DNA hey hey hey hey, that made me this way Do you know do yo...

Re: Name that tune

That song by Blondie. ](*,) And Happy New Year. \:D/ Now you've got it rattling through my mind! Was the next line something like "And the man from Mars is driving cars", or am I just imagining that? The only Blondie songs I can think of off the top of my head are Denis, Sunday Girl, Heart o...

That looks a lot like:

Leavin' on a Jet Plane - Peter, Paul & Mary
Correct! Written by John Denver, who also had a hit with it, but the Peter, Paul & Mary version was the first to hit the charts. Your turn, sir!

Re: Name that tune

Thanks. I’ll offer a clue in the hopes this might get you off the hook.

This song was recorded by an act with three names in continuation of the recent spate of such songs. Although it’s probably more identified with the singer who wrote it.

Re: Name that tune

Hi Peter I gave up and googled the lyrics. I don't know this song at all and I don't think I've ever heard it before now, although I do know the singer (and even bought one of her albums), but her first (and biggest) hit this side of the Atlantic was a year after the song in question. I love that pa...

Song seems vaguely familiar, but I can't place it right now. Maybe it will come to me later.

That's correct Jill. I thought it would be fun to follow a song by Earth, Wind and Fire with one by Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Re: Name that tune

To my eternal shame, I was channel hopping tonight when I came across a girl band jumping around the stage and trying to sing September by Earth, Wind and Fire. And I realised that's where I'd heard those words before. By the way, I had thought that the X Factor couldn't possibly get any worse, but ...

I really didn't expect this one to prove that difficult. Another clue.

The song made it back to number 1 in the UK charts after the singer's death in late 2001.

Paul, does the word angel appear somewhere in the song lyrics?
Still thinking along the right lines, Jill. But the word angel does not feature in the song.

It was a worldwide number 1 hit in the 1970s, if that helps.

My mistake. I listened again just now, and there is the dark part I remember with all the mistakes he made and the sad "successes". He called his wife, but does not have much hope of getting back together, 8 years later. Just my take. Actually, I think he's calling her hoping that she will t...

I'm thinking Harry Chapin and "W.O.L.D." but that might be off the mark as I haven't googled to check spellings etc
That is correct! Your turn.

And Plummy, I've no idea why you think that song is not sung to a woman. It's a DJ calling his ex wife to see if they can get back together.
