Wolfmiester wrote: Fri Mar 05, 2021 7:54 pm No Paul, it was definitely Valerie, a different song to the Zutons one.
Yes, I kinda figured that out. Just saying that his diction was not 100% clear. And I'm not making that up - I genuinely thought he was singing follow me.

Re: Name that tune

Thanks for the extra lines, Peter. I'm pretty sure I don't know the song, or if I do, I don't know it well enough to recognise those lyrics. Wolfie, I thought Valerie was by The Zutons (and also recorded by Amy Winehouse)? I remember a song by Stevie Winwood, but I always thought he was singin...

Re: Name that tune

Given that you knew both songs [although the title of the Stones song is just The Last Time), I think you’re more than entitled to put one up.

Don’t think I recognise yours, but maybe it’s lurking somewhere in the back of my mind.

Just seen Jill’s later posts now. Please ignore my last post, although I reserve the right to use it as my next song if I happen to recognise (or guess!) whatever song Peter puts up.

Over to you, Peter!

Thanks Jill. I seem to keep getting in the driving seat by default!

Anyone, not being one to shirk a challenge :^o , here goes.

Re: Name that tune

OK.

So it's George Harrison and the lyrics sound vaguely familiar, but I can't for the life of me name the song.

Re: Oh Calcutta!!

Not wanting to get caught up in the fray, but it's strange to think that the England Ireland game may well be the decider as to who finishes second last in this year's 6 Nations. I'd have to fancy England to win at Twickenham, but the way this season has gone, who knows?

Re: Indoor Rowers League 20/21

I was going to do the challenge today if we didn’t have 8 entries for this month, but I see that I’m off the hook. Given that I’ve only been on the erg once this month (and that was two days ago to do a very slow CTC), that’s probably just as well! I decided to have a go anyway. Even slower ...

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread

Sorry to hear about your injury Paul. I’ve had several visits to the physio about my lower back problems and I may have to consider alternative solutions if things don’t start to improve. I’ve done hardly any erging (none so far this month), although I don’t think erging makes my back any worse. It’...

Re: Name that tune

Paul, is the saying "older than dirt" not used in Ireland? Never heard the saying. Well, I am older. This next one seems to have sufficient trans-oceanic credentials. "Couldn't hear the robin sing" Older than dirt or older than me? That new one sounds familiar, but I can’t...

Paul, I am upset I did not catch your quotes. Probably, I was distracted by the thought that I was old. I do, of course, remember when dirt was young! Back to business; I looked at several songs and found that they did not chart in the UK. this one did, however. "You make me sing like a ...

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread

Back on track this week. Whether I can stay on track next week is another matter. On the subject of the weight we were when younger, I got my weight down to 75kg in 1984, when I was 31. I was doing a lot of running at the time, including a few marathons and a number of HMs, 10ks, etc. Paul V Date___...

A bit more background. The artist who had a hit with the cover version in the early 1980s had his greatest period of success in the early 1970s. And even though it was a long, long time ago, I can still remember the opening lines of his most famous song.

Re: Name that tune

OK. Time for a clue.

The song was co-written by an American singer-songwriter who had a hit with it in the early 1960s. It was then recorded by another American singer-songwriter in the early 1980s and was a number 1 hit in the UK.

Mine was primarily due to an excess consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the week. Just got into a bad run and kept it going. Taking a few days break now and hoping this will result in an improvement by the end of the week.
