Re: Name that tune

I have to say, I’ve never heard of them either. Listened to the song just now on YouTube and I can’t remember ever hearing it before. The 60s is more my era than the 70s.

Re: We are top of the league - a lifetime event

Congratulations Graham. I love the Stop the Count tweet! Very topical.

And now my team Spurs are top for the first time in ages. May only last a couple of hours, though! But I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Re: Name that tune

I also had no idea and cheated with Google. And I still have no idea. can't say that I've ever heard of this band. I decided to follow suit and, assuming I’ve got the right song, I have heard of the band. They actually had a number one hit in the UK in the 1960s. But it looks as if that song (which...

Re: Name that tune

Absolutely no idea. Is this another song that was a huge hit in the US and didn’t chart at all in the UK?

If so, I can’t really complain. After all, I put up a Eurovision Song Concert winner that I’m pretty sure was never released as a single in the US.

Re: Name that tune

LoL, Peter. Dang, I would have had that on the first clue if I hadn't been so busy being all retired and stuff. Yes, today is the "official" first day of my retirement. I turned 55 on 10/5, and the rest of my life is all mine... :D :D :D (OT, but I just want EVERYone to know!) Bet of luck Ron. I ho...

You were asking why it is 6,344 meters. The reason is that the challenge is being done as a tribute to Joe Simpson.

Re: Indoor Rowers League 20/21

Touching the Void is a 1988 book by Joe Simpson, recounting his and Simon Yates' successful but disastrous and nearly fatal climb of the 6,344-metre (20,814 ft) Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. It has sold over a million copies and has been translated into over 20 languages. It was made i...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 20/21

I did the IRL yesterday as promised. I was even slower than I expected to be. I thought I might be able to manage something close to 2:00 pace, but that only lasted about a minute and I think I ended up doing my slowest ever mile in 6:44.6. Thankfully there were already 8 entries for the team, so I ...

I persuaded the lovely Jennifer to put in an entry for this month's challenge and we now have 7 boats floated.

Re: Name that tune

correct! John Denver song I think? Written by John Denver, but it was Peter, Paul and Mary who charted with it. I walk into an empty room And suddenly my heart goes boom I just discovered that not only did I put this song up previously, I also used the same two lines. So here's a different s...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 20/21

That sounds like very good news Paul (apart from the cost ). Did he give you any hints about what the problem might be? Good luck with the IRL. As you say, any row is better than no row, and at least it's not a long one! Jon Thanks Jon I received a copy of the report he sent to my GP today. H...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 20/21

I've been doing practically no erging as I was waiting to see a back specialist. I've now met him and he doesn't feel that surgery is appropriate, but recommends physiotherapy. The good news is that he says there's no reason for me not to row. The bad news is that my wallet is now significantly ligh...

That’s what I get for not checking this website for a few hours. I would have known that straight away. One of the first albums I ever bought was Can’t Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Anyway it’s over to Wolfie (I think).

Well done Colin. I’ve only been on the erg once this month and my weight is staying stubbornly close to the 100 kg mark. I’m still just about in the amber zone, but I’ve decided I’m only going to post updates once a month unless I have good news to report. I’m running out of red ink. :^o
