Re: Name that tune

Thanks Peter. I realise there’s a clue (probably a fairly significant one) in your last post, but it just doesn’t ring any bells. There was a song called “Making your mind up” by Bucks Fizz that was a Eurovision Song Contest winner back in the 80s, but those lyrics are definitely not in that song. T...

"It's not often easy and not often kind"
Those lyrics are driving me out of my mind

I feel like I should know it, but it’s just not clicking.

Re: fall challenge - reminder

Lucky I saw this thread. I hadn't realised I had to actually push 'join the challenge" . Hopefully the usual meters added across a month, around 250,000 to 350,000. Cheers, Lesley  I'm glad I saw your post Lesley. I thought I had done everything I needed to do and was getting a message say...

Re: September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted

Decided to do a 5k today. First row this month and my physio has told me that it's OK to row provided I take it very easy and don't put any undue strain on my back. I figured I'd be able to do somewhere around the 21 minute mark without stressing my back too much, but boy was I wrong! In order to ro...

Re: Name that tune

I had considered putting up the answer as Peter didn't specifically say that that was his guess. But I figured that would be robin' him of his chance to put one up and would be nothing to crow about.

I thought it would renew automatically. I'm in now, but I've missed out on my first week's points.

Re: August ctc : 2020 in pieces - 4 x 505m with 2 minutes rest, and take the time of your slowest 505m interval

Having done only on session on the erg this month, I decided (against the advice of my physio) to have a go at this month's challenge today. Forgetting how unfit I am, I decided that 2:00 would be a reasonable target that I should be able to achieve without too much stress. I did the first interval ...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Hi Colin Great to hear from you and I hope your recovery from your lung infection is going well. I had an email from Alan and it’s good to hear that he’s doing well. I remember Grimsby a few years back and getting a lift there with Alan and a lift back with you. My recollection is that I was sufferi...

Hi Colin Great to hear from you! It would be lovely to hear from Alan. I remember travelling from Leeds-Bradford to Wigan with Alan and back to Birmingham with you many years ago. Those were the days! Bill Wright took part in a fantastic race, but his wife was unwell and able to compete. Last I hear...

Probably Bruce Springsteen in that case. Can't place the lyrics.

I love those lyrics! But I don't recall ever hearing them and I haven't a clue who wrote them or who performed them or what the name of the song is, though.

I hope you're enjoying your week away Mike. I managed to get back into the orange zone this week, by the skin of my teeth! It's Jennifer's birthday today and it's a bank holiday weekend, so staying out of the red zone at my next weigh in may prove to be something of a challenge! Paul V Date________W...

Re: Injuries.....:(

Had a visit with the physio this morning and he advised me not to row for a while. I'm still having a lot of lower back problems and he feels that erging will exacerbate the problems. I'm seeing him again in two weeks' time and will review the situation then.

Having done practically no erging this month, I decided it was time to have a go at this month’s challenge. It was a slow decline into death, but I managed to finish the challenge in 8:55.6. Pretty depressing, but why worry?

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

As expected and as predicted by Jill, last week proved somewhat problematic from a weight loss perspective. Five nights away with hotel meals each day, including 5 days of fried breakfasts, took their toll. Lots of time spent driving as well, so not as much exercise as usual. Back in the red zone, u...
