When I say football, I'm talking about what you Americans refer to as soccer.
LoL, I was only playing the naive and/or stupid American - It's hard to get the joke across the pond correctly, I guess... :D
I knew that. I was just responding in kind.

Anyway, I totally accept that you didn't need my contribution and I think you should put up the next set of lyrics Ron. 8)

Re: Name that tune

In football parlance, I think my contribution counts as an assist. Or I could be really pedantic and say that the correct title is Won’t Get Fooled Again.

It sounds like the cadence of Mambo No 5, but I don't recognise those particular lyrics.

Managed to halt the slide this week - just about! My planned trip to Alvor looks like it's not going to happen, so I may use this as an opportunity to get things back on track. :^o Date________Weight (kgs)_____Weekly Change_____Overall Change 15/05/20______99.0 22/05/20______98.0______________-1.0__...

Re: June CTC

I had another go at the June CTC today. I've had a couple of aborted attempts since I put in my first effort at the beginning of the month and I was determined to at least finish the challenge this time around. I found it a struggle from start to finish and had to work hard to fight off the HD demon...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Back on the comeback trail today with 2x10 mins. Covered 3818m @ 2:37 pace. Enough to quicken my breath, but not gasping. Just need to build this kind of row up. Well done Stan. It’s really hard getting back into it. I’ve been back erging for about six weeks now and things are improving, but slowly.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I'm not sure I'm 6'1" any more - probably 6' at best. I've been told I have a truncated stroke, but I don't know how to measure it. It is one of the data fields in ErgData if you use that Paul. In case of my other post. Anomaly? The last figures were meant to be meters is that what you meant? I tho...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve always struggled to get decent results at low ratings. It’s probably at least partly due to a relatively short stroke. Paul, you have far more experience than I, but I took some advice from a very experienced ergo and otw rower last year and he persuaded me to slo...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Hi Paul V, At 6'1" you're an inch or 2 taller than me. What do you class as a "relatively short stroke". I have shorter legs compared to body so not really built for rowing and usually see 1.39 to 1.45 depending on stroke rate and how much I'm thinking about technique. I'm not sure I'm 6'1" any mor...

Re: Tell us about your Holiday plans

Thanks Jill. One of the issues that is likely to contribute to us deciding not to travel is an unauthorised party that took place a few miles from Alvor 3 weeks ago. A sports club was booked for 20 people to attend a birthday party and over 100 showed up. As 20 is the legal limit at present, the peo...

Paul, you nearly halted it this week. I find that I always put a kilo on when restart rowing (presumably extra fluid), so every sign that you will be back losing weight for next week!
Thanks for the encouragement!

Re: Tell us about your Holiday plans

At this stage, our planned trip to Alvor in mid July is looking very doubtful. The 14 day quarantine for those arriving in Ireland from abroad is still in place and friends of ours who were due to be in Alvor at the same time as us have cancelled their flights. On the plus side, my home gym is not s...

New 2K best time

Indoor rowing got a mention on the BBC website today https://www.bbc.com/sport/rowing/53118747

Not an official record as it wasn’t done in a competition, but pretty good all the same.

Nice to hear she's doing well. I haven't heard of the series and I didn't even know that Bono had a daughter who acts. There's lot of ambivalence about Bono in Ireland. I think it's partly because of his gigantic ego and partly because of his preachy attitude. There's a (somewhat apocryphal) story t...
