Re: Name that tune

I really didn't expect this one to prove that difficult. Another clue.

The song made it back to number 1 in the UK charts after the singer's death in late 2001.

Paul, does the word angel appear somewhere in the song lyrics?
Still thinking along the right lines, Jill. But the word angel does not feature in the song.

It was a worldwide number 1 hit in the 1970s, if that helps.

I like your thinking Jill, but the word angel does not appear in the song title.

My mistake. I listened again just now, and there is the dark part I remember with all the mistakes he made and the sad "successes". He called his wife, but does not have much hope of getting back together, 8 years later. Just my take. Actually, I think he's calling her hoping that she will t...

I'm thinking Harry Chapin and "W.O.L.D." but that might be off the mark as I haven't googled to check spellings etc
That is correct! Your turn.

And Plummy, I've no idea why you think that song is not sung to a woman. It's a DJ calling his ex wife to see if they can get back together.

Re: Name that tune

I love that line, but I guess it's pretty obscure unless you really know the song. Hopefully these lines are a bit more recognisable.

Re: Name that tune

Paul, several songs are battling it out in my head; there must a lot of extra space in there. #-o The one that is winning is "All By Myself", by Gilbert O'Sullivan, it think. The line you're thinking of is "Those days are gone", which is indeed from All By Myself, which I think was originally recor...

Paul, I thought it might be devious rather than obvious, but it did not fool you.

If you try for a Glen Campbell trifecta, I will not give anyone a hint. :^o

Or perhaps something from the Blues Brothers?

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge

Rather than start a new thread (as the Challenge is very specific and quite niche) - Crazy Bear 2019 starts on November 10th. It's the same format as last year with entries for ergo (must be a full HM), SkiErg (must be a HM) or BikeErg (must be a FM) with the challenge to try and complete 30 in 44 ...

Re: Name that tune

Sticking with Glen Campbell, I see! Gentle On My Mind.

Reminds me of the Blues Brothers - we do both kinds of music here, Country AND Western.

Lots of country/soft rock songs are classics!

Not quite a day (maybe a quarter of a day?), but I'll post a clue as to the identity of the artists.

Long established British band, still going strong after a long career.

"Rocket Man"?

Rocket Man is correct. Over to you Peter.
