Re: Bill Wright
Not sure why I ambled on to the Free Spirits forum today but I find myself reading this post with great sadness. I met Bill a few times at both Grimsby and Cardiff. His powerful approach was used to great effect and quite something to see... and a true gent too. Condolences to Trish and their family...

Pretty sure I'm too young to know this and Clint Eastwood was younger that I am now.

Re: Cycle cross-training
That's a big ride Trish. Congratulations. I joined the Wattbike club about a month ago. 90 mins is the most I've done so far. I can't really imagine sitting on it for 5 hours! It's a considerable achievement.
Best wishes,

Re: November CTC: 4 x 250m / 3 min rest
On an evening where I would have preferred to be doing anything other than rowing I decided to have an initial go at the CTC because at least it would be over quickly and I can always have another ago later in the month . As usual I set off with no real notion of what to expect give a lack of any ki...

Re: The Pete Plan
Sadly this is true Rodger. 'Training' reduced to a solitary 30 minute session on Wednesday evening . Will try to do better over the weekend (assuming the weather isn't cycling friendly ).Rodger wrote:I think Jonathan is missing in action, too.

Re: The Pete Plan
Nice job Dave. PP 5k Lite 4x1200m 4r for me in the hotel gym this evening. recent 8x500m @ 1m56.5 pointed to somewhere around 1m57.5 - 1m58 for this one. So I set the pace boat at 1m57.5 and off I went... 1 @ 1m57.0 2 @ 1m57.1 3 @ 1m56.6 4 @ 1m55.6 Ave @ 1m56.6 Tougher than the 500's but I am still ...

Re: The Pete Plan
Quite some party! Good to see... Any thoughts on how the pace of 8x500m 1r should compare to 4x1200m 4r? If the sessions of the lite 5k Plan are in the same proportions as in the normal 5k plan, the 4x1200/4r would be a little bit (0.5 to 1.5 sec.) slower than the 8x500/1r. Seems to make sense Rodge...

Re: The Pete Plan
Rest? Huw laughs in the face of rest. :D Tentative toe in the water with the 5k lite plan last night. 8x500m 1r. Started quite conservatively with the first four at 1.58.x then increase to a couple at 1m56.x and one at 1m55.x. The final rep was 1m51.x giving an average for the session of 1m56.5. Per...

Re: The Pete Plan
Nicely done Rodger. I started this plan once and I hated the 500m 1r. Nonetheless I'm looking for a bit of a plan to follow and my perennial weakness is middle distance fitness so I think I might join you on this if you don't mind. However, I simply don't have the time to train 6 days a week so it's...

Re: October CTC - 3,861 metres
Good going Dave. ^O^ Decided to test my shiny new monitor out by giving this a go last night (X factor avoidance scheme). This was only my second pull on the chain since I was away on holiday in June so not really sure what to expect. In true Free Spirits tradition I decided to target Stan's time (o...

Certainly does. 7861m lifetime metres! (A ctc attempt seemed the right way to get back in the saddle, especially this ctc).

Re: Rowing machine not working!
Nights are drawing in, the wind's blowing a chill, the bike is reluctant to come down from it's comfortably padded peg in the garage. The rowing machine feels the effects of a long summer of neglect and the continued inability to communicate with it's monitor despite a shiny new sensor. The scales g...
