Re: Injuries.....:(
A brief BFTP, sorry I've been away for so long. I had been doing a bit of running to get me outdoors for the past couple of years (to assist with depression) hence the absence from the erg. I was looking to combine the erg back in this autumn but that stopped in August when I injured my knee - 5 mon...

Re: 2010 Weight Loss Thread
Hi Gang, Long time no erg... Am back, have been doing a smidgen of running/jogging on the treadmill (45min sessions) & now need to get back on the machine of dread pain as the new academic year starts. For various reasons (a bit lifestyle, more medical/meds) I've put on a lot of weight...

Can't get me to sew yet more stuff into uniform. I might stab myself in the thumb with the needle. And don't suggest the iron-in ones, have you seen the sort of burn you can get off a hot iron?!... and airbags are sewn into all blazers

Re: Why?
Yeh - absolutely. If there was 6" of snow, you just put on some better shoes and walked as normal. Every school boiler/heating system seems to pack up every time it gets slightly cold. All the schools and even my nearest college is shut - pathetic Plummy Auntie Beeb seems to agree: http://news...

Did 20mins next to kiddies on Tues - first session since Dec of last year & that after a break of 3 months.
Today I hurt.

Re: First Things First (OTW question)
Top tip for relaxing grip: wiggle your fingers during the recovery. It also helps to relax your forearm which is the area most likely to sieze during unbalanced/choppy outings - can be spotted as crew members not feathering during the latter parts of autumn head races.....

Re: First Things First (OTW question)
Hi Emily, I've done some coaching of novices in my time. Lots of good advice above to which I'd add... Don't grip the blade handle too tightly, it makes the technique much harder to do and gives you blisters - if you find yourself getting blisters at the base of your fingers or on your palm then gri...

Re: Something I learned about England!
All I asked was, if it was true, that many people in England had these "stoves" running all day long and if something was done about it. Rather more questions than that I think Mikkel  Aga ownership is very, very low. To give an idea - the company says it sold 19,600 across the whol...

Re: Something I learned about England!
I seem to recall a recent story saying that low energy light bulbs will render your home uninhabitable if they break owing to the mercury in them. No idea if this is true - Thomas, Janet? - perhaps you could enlighten me? Happy to be of service :D I tend to trust the Royal Society of Chemistry and ...

Re: Something I learned about England!
This BBC story about hydrogen fueled cars might be interesting.
Low watt bulbs generally OK - we use them - but it means I can't do anything which require fine detail, like sewing or lace knitting, as the light isn't strong enough for my eyes to focus well enough (I'm getting old).

Re: Something I learned about England!
Biofuels is rather new in Denmark, but somebody has already found out how to make cars running on it and how to get it cheap and easy. Wasteproduct: Only water! there is more than one type of biofuel - for cars you're probably talking bioethanol or biodiesel. They do both have lower emissions than ...

Re: Something I learned about England!
Hi Mikkel being a maths/sciency type person I tend to look for the stats..... This set shows the UK as using less electricity per person than Denmark, this one gives the UK as using slightly more oil per person than Denmark, but both countries being well down the list. For CO2 production This...

Hi Bill - thanks for the invite. I'll sign up if I get on the erg again during the time. Been having a somewhat crappy time over the past few months so finding it tricky to motivate myself to do anything recently. Would have to dig ergo out of bin that is spare bedroom & is currently full of bed...

Was the sound that the FREE SPIRITS made.
What I got for Christmas was flu

How's about this one - emailed to Ellen MacArthur during the race and of which she said "it's true":
"Courage is not having the energy to go on, it's going on when you do not have the energy."

That'll teach me to go AWOL.....
I shall muse on what to go for.... Annoyingly the deadline is just before your bonkers row - which would have been the obvious candidate/victim/model.
