Re: Meta-nonathlon 2019/2020

Thanks Rodger. After following training plans for most of the year I'm looking forward to enjoying myself in the weeks following SRIC with a bit of festive Nonathlon fun. My aim is to complete all the distances (excluding FM) and post total scores of 900+ for the Meta-nonathlon and 8,100+ for the no...

Scottish Rowing Indoor Championships 2019

The Scottish Championships are this Saturday, 23rd November, in Motherwell. I'm in the 2k and Guy has entered the 500m, 1k and 2k which is an impressive challenge! The draw has been issued and in my 50-60 hwt category there are at least 4 sub 6:50 rowers so I'm not expecting to medal. A great result...

Hi Steve, Although I've entered for the last 3 years I'm not going this year. I hope James has a fantastic day because it really is an impressive set up.

Dave, Well done on the 500m, that's an impressive Nonathlon score. And hope you're feeling better soon.

Re: Overtraining

Thanks Dave and Guy, much appreciated. Last night I was reading about over-training on the web and came across over-reaching which I hadn't heard of. It sounds exactly like the 'under recovery' Guy mentions and is the stage before over-training. The bit I really liked is that with a proper rest you ...

Overtraining

Where to start? After spending the summer following the original 2k training program I switched to some of the Pete Plan sessions in early October but now the wheels seem to have come off and it's only 2 weeks to go to the Scottish Championships. Every session over the summer I was pushing it but wi...

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020

Great effort and I like the 23 minute target idea, That's a pace of 1:48.7 and my 6k PB is 1:48.8. But it will have to wait until after SRIC .

Claudius, Very impressive =D> =D> =D> Jon, I've experienced exactly the same thing! When I first did low rate training it seemed impossible to row at lower rates and then impossible to change back up again! For me there are 2 things: the sudden 1 off change eg CTCs, and transitioning to a different ...

Re: November ctc - 1k/3:30r/750m/2:30r/500m/1:30r/250m

Guy, Plenty of time after SRIC!

Matt, Welcome. In terms of pacing I would start with first 2 intervals at 2k pace, 3rd interval at 1k pace and final interval just empty the tank. If you're feeling good you can always up the pace slightly on the 2nd and 3rd intervals.

Re: October ctc - 666 meters

Well that was truly scary! Started my first 2k time trial of the season but HD'd after 1,200m which was pretty stupid as I should have backed off. So thought I might as well give the Halloween Howler a go... but went out way too fast and HD'd again #-o So in a bid to salvage something from the worko...

You certainly did =D> =D> =D>. Interesting warm up . It's a shame you aren't based in Melbourne because entries for that location are still open and your time would have won a medal last year!!!

Well done to everyone who had an early go because that was quite hard! 5:29.3 @1:42.3 pace (adjusted time of 5:10.3). Pleased to break 5:30 and average pace was 1.1 faster than last year :D.

Re: The Original 2k Training Programme

Final session just completed! Overall the training has gone really well but there is a small mystery... Last year my average pace gave an indicative 2k time of just under 6:56 but I went on to manage a PB of just over 6:50, so around 5s better. This year my average pace is quicker and gives an indic...

Thank you for the tough targets and the warnings about the 3rd interval. It went much better than expected with a time of 16:54.1 @1:45.6 pace. Quick start then found a rhythm at 1:46 pace and stuck with that plus a minor sprint at the end of the last interval.

All done. 1,190m @1:40.8. Planned for a relatively even pace at 1:41 but it didn't quite work out like that. But happy as pace 0.8 faster than last year and adjusted meters = 1,292.

Cycle 4 may be taking longer than expected (2 weeks injured) but the timings are going according to plan . It would be great to complete the remaining sessions by the end of the month.
