Re: Mud Season Madness 2018

Well done Paul and well done everyone that has completed the challenge! I’ve completed 31 days too and feel just great. I did 15km each of the last 3 days and every time I did a PB on that distance. But looking at others people pace....boy I’m still so slow :-( plenty to work on! Sent from my iPad u...

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018

Happy to report I’ve completed the challenge yesterday :-) I did 15 easy km after a day on the sea...it really helped! With today it’s now 26 out of 26 so I’m now targeting the full month

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018

15 out 15, feeling good. The only problem is I had to switch to evening training because of the traveling. I definitely prefer training early thing in the morning, but I will be back on track on Saturday. As for the motivation, unfortunately I'm competitive in about everything i do, and I want to im...

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018

Today was tough for me too: I felt like I was pulling with my arms rather than pushing with legs. Also the back was not as stable and engaged as it is usually. Managed to complete 12km and it's now 13 out of 13. Problem is tomorrow I'm travelling, leaving home very early and coming back very late an...

Re: Mud Season Madness 2018

Massi, you're on the list now, and you've also added almost 1.4 million meters to the Free Spirits meterboard =D>. Well done, even though that knocked me down one spot  Thanks! I'm planning to row 250/260km per month, and hopefully start knocking down some reasonable PBs. Would love to < 8 o...

Thanks plummy :-) I'm pretty slow, but I'm definitely not lacking enthusiasm...I'm really liking erging, not missing running at all, especially given the current weather conditions!

Re: Lactate based training

I use a Lactate Plus Meter. http://www.lactate.com/lactateplus.html The meter is pretty cheap, but the test strips cost about $1.80 each. You also have to deal with the fact that other folks in the gym think that you are a lunatic or a diabetic for poking holes in your fingers. Thanks for t...

Re: Lactate based training

One advantage of using Matt Fitzgerald's running training plans applied to rowing is the workout variety: this week I've done some speed-play (or fartlek), and it was quite fun :-) It was a 10 x (1 minute @ Zone 5, 2 minute @ Zone 1), but I struggled to get into Zone 5, I tried to row as hard as pos...

Re: Lactate based training

Yep, I think it's important to play with the low intensity training volume to find the right balance. In my case easy runs were about 50 minutes, with the first 10/15 in Zone 1 (just above warm-up). That translates at the moment to 1 hour of easy rowing, but mainly because i'm a newbie :-) I suspect...

Re: Lactate based training

This is an interesting thread, I'm quite interested in polarized training myself. I've used the 80/20 training plans from Matt Fitzgerald for my running, with good results, and I'm wondering if they can be adapted to rowing. Re: Beginners

So..my first two 'serious' workouts: yesterday a 10k, keeping really low BPM (around 120), trying to focus on technique. Quite happy how it went, but I feel reeeeeeeally slow :-) This morning I tried a 'fast' (for me) 5K, and BPM were quite high, I think max was 161. Obviously being mainly a runner ...

Re: Beginners

Hi all, I joined the forum a few months ago, and kept rowing during this time. In fact I'm enjoying rowing more than I expected initially, and today I received my new Model D (wasn't using anything this expensive) :-D This thing is a real beauty and a total pleasure to use. Just wanted to say hello ...

"About me" - a place to introduce yourself

Thanks for the welcome zootMutant! I've been rowing basically every day in the last couple of weeks as I'm sidelined by a ankle sprain. No problem rowing, and that's great as I think I've managed to keep my fitness level. One thing I've noticed is that I put some weight (about 2kg) in the last 4 wee...
