Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Iain - hesitate to give too much HM or FM advice with Plummy in earshot but fwiw: I tend to do my HM and FM (and come to think , 50k and 100k) fasted, but highly fueled from the previous day. Bananas, nuts, high protein and a good amount of fluids. Unless I'm shooting for a fast time, I'll warm up f...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Unfathomably and disturbing - ratings are just inhuman. A replica of Mats pyramid: IMG_20240418_081029.jpg IMG_20240418_081012.jpg Having consistently failed this in the past, my approach is to hold to 2k pace (1:47) for reps 1 and 2, cling on for 3, hold back slightly for 4 and push on the way down...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
All this talk of sprints makes me feel rather unwell - both good luck and well done to you all!
Quite sedated after yesterday's flappyness, and I was very grateful for that. 20spm felt almost like a rest and a far more natural combination of rate and pace.

Re: Age is just a number!
If anyone remained curious, the original paper was more forthcoming on the training amounts: Training included ≈ 30 km/wk on the rowing ergometer. Herein, 70% of distances were covered at light intensities (RPE, 10–12), 20% at hard (RPE, 13–17), and 10% at near maximal or maximal (RPE, 17–20). Resis...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
I shall look out for HMs this weekend :fswink: - excellent training all round. I had some rather mundane low rate sessions (an hour at 15spm was a bit of a mental challenge) back end of last week and into this - helpful with the various challenges. Then this: IMG_20240416_091109.jpg IMG_20240416_091...

That would be my need to have sessions last a similar length of time or distance

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Great rowing in the PP thread Iain. Today's session. Was along the lines of Spider's row: IMG_20240410_102133.jpg IMG_20240410_102120.jpg I took it a little easier than the pace targets for the 3min interval (should have been 53s) largely as user error - just went with going a touch faster than last...

Great to see such high levels of activity (for a fairly vile CTC).

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Great efforts there Iain - 2hrs on the erg then sprinting?
Continuing with 10k sessions: I think I wanted this to be easier than it was..... Mental effort seemed to be the thing to keep to the rating (that graph doesn't lie).

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
A very valuable slog though Mat
Some 10k training this week: Felt quite taxing to keep the rating on point with the change of pace, so was a touch off target towards the end.

Re: April CTC - The Baker's Dozen
Very great rows indeed =D> ^O^ =D> ! Maybe we could both improve by not doing active recovery strokes in between but full stops. It seems to work for Jon, so it might for us. We both clocked in at above 6K, so we rowed more than 2K during the off-minutes. You first  - though seriously Jon prob...

Re: April CTC - The Baker's Dozen
Great to see some impressive times already ^O^ ^O^ IMG_20240406_080524.jpg My that was unpleasant. Shot for a smidge faster than 2k pace then got all giddy and went with -6s...... You may be able to see where the wheels fell off. All that said, I can't see (even with more even pacing) where signific...

Spider - I have full blown white coat syndrome. One too many looks at HR readings and I'm shot. Something in the air as we're all on lower rate pieces today (nice work Mat and Spider): ReactNative-snapshot-image4120022424384609644~2.jpg 20240404_102002~2.jpg Nice metre munching after lots of sprints.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Nice sessions Spider - your breaks sound exceptional. Working through 5k training sessions - start of the week was heavy sprints which ended unpleasantly (though on target), and I thought I was through the worst.... Thanks for sorting this out Jon.
The consistency part of me tends to favour the simple calculation of the first option.
